Ryldes Movie Review [Independence Day Resurgence]

Day 3,419, 11:01 Published in Canada Canada by Rylde

Well going into this movie review stuff i'll let it be known I'm not the type to be overly critical of movies. I'm forcing myself a bit here. I go into them with the simple goal of being entertained and it takes an extremely bad movie for me to not finish or not give it a passing grade. The only theatre movie I have not finished due to falling asleep out of boredom was Hop.

Well I decided to suffer through this movie for a 2nd time to honor Fritzy and his 5k cc donation. If you have seen this movie suffer is a fitting description to this sequel. Its to bad as I was in my prime teen years when the original came out and was a blockbuster that delivered for its time. I didn't have high expectations but I hoped it would be decent and was happy to see a continuation of the story.

So off the start we find out we built a moon spacestation putting our biggest and most powerful weapon right on the frontline like most militaries do. That's like placing a nuke silo on the coastline for an easy loss in a coming invasion. I might be a little off on my thinking but a tactical listening post for a early warning system would have sufficed.

We have about 50 of these amazing little spacecraft fighters after 20 years and the military might of the world decided we needed a stationary weapon battery on the frontline instead of ya know spending resources on an entire fleet of ships. Perhaps even a couple space type battleships Galactica style. Anyways as expected the moon is quickly overrun.

I won't get into the characters as this would be to long of a review to include them so lets just say we have little to no emotional connection to any of them. I'd throw it in the Asian lady.
The black African warrior dude was cool and his description of his countries battle of attrition against the aliens after the initial war was cool and should have perhaps been the movie itself. Who else wouldn't of liked seeing a close quarters ground war to the last man standing against the alien menance. Sign me up.

So if you have a ship that's a 6th the size of the planet your attacking your going to just land it?

I give the CGI dept credit as the destruction and such was a high point of the movie and Brudlefly's father boating away from the ship was a cool scene.

I checked out of this movie at this point knowing it was extremely bad when his father somehow lived through said destruction. Black pilot guys cry of anguish when Will Smiths piece of ass died was kinda comical in itself. Wonder how many takes that took and that was the best one?

No you could not recreate the magic and disheartenment of a failed plane assault.

You would figure the highly advanced aliens would have some kind of gene recognition so there ships stop getting hi-jacked all the time. I'd say live and learn but apparently not.

I did think the alien queen was kinda cool and as far as an end of the movie villain goes. Again though having something like that in the middle of a soldier to soldier ground war would have been way cooler. Can you imagine how many foot soldiers that thing coulda took out and it wasn't like we had much left military wise after the first movie. Coulda been epic.

Best way to cancel out a cool boss battle is to have it chase a friggin school bus in the middle of a war. People actually sat together and approved of this. Oh look there's my son in the middle of a war lets go see him with 20 kids.

Well that's it as I don't want to get into the stupid probe and whatever the hell the ship tornado was.

Best part of the movie was of course the treasure hunters getting drunk at the end of the world and demanding 100 million dollars to help and the shock of the Govt agreeing.

Out of 10 I would give it a rating of 3 perhaps even a 4 considering there's some decent action scenes. I think it suffered a lot from being a sequel to a good movie and having big shoes to fill. Outside of the movies obvious flaws of course.
To much time had passed between movies for it to be fresh in fans minds and perhaps had it come out sooner it might have faired better in the box office. But due to the internet and movie goers being much more critical these days it was not to be.

In closing its worth a view if your a sci-fi kinda guy just don't measure it to its predessor. You'll get more value out of it this way.
