Power Through Policy

Day 1,140, 17:22 Published in Canada USA by Joe DaSmoe

oh Canada, OH CANADA! XD

Hello again my fellow Canadians.

I came to your country about a week ago, and like what I see here. You guys have a good active population base, an organized military and Congress and powerful political parties. Canada is an organized and prepared nation in this game.

I spent well over a year in the United States arguing tax policy. The entrenched politicians there are nearly 100% against changing their tax system, and believe they have set the perfect system for their country, I disagree with some aspects of it, but that's neither here nor there. I speak of this only to shed a little light on what I have done and fought for in the past. I served eight terms in Congress and actively worked and fought to better my country.

Canada, however, seems to be a nation willing to explore different avenues to attain higher might, and seems to adjust accordingly to the constant changing atmospheres in eRepublik, i.e. wartime/peacetime. This is a good thing. In peacetime, citizens need to have more of their cash in their pockets in order to grow their savings and mature their citizens more quickly, while in time of war/invasion giving a little more to support the war effort and a bump up in rates is necessary. From what I have seen so far, Canada on the whole uses this system wisely to ensure a balance is struck between savings and military might.

Canada faces problems that larger conquering nations do not face. We do not have all of the resources here, lacking grain, oil, saltpeter, fruits and rubber. Since admin has not yet fully integrated the new economic module, the only two that currently matter are grain and oil, with grain being the most important.

Canada also enjoys one of the highest valued currencies in game. This is an advantage, and coupled with your fair income tax rates, serves to draw workers from abroad to work in Canada. Like I said on the whole, a good policies can and will steadily improve Canada's power as a nation.

I have a few suggestions if I may, and I am seeking to join the political party who most falls in line with my views and observations of your policy. My thinking behind these ideas are designed to make Canada more powerful as a whole.

Grain is lifeblood.
Set income taxes for grain to 5% to 10% to move some of the workforce to that sector, and help produce a boost in this VITAL resource. The import taxes are already set at 1% and that is exactly where the should be. It seems however that the grain market is not as saturated with imports as it should be, so it seems to me that a few informative articles explaining the benefits of selling sell grain in Canada (i.e. 1% tax and high currency value) should be published in the larger countries, this could be coupled with running ads worldwide, once admin gives that back to us. If this is successful and the market price of grain falls, food prices will follow suit, allowing Canadians to buy more food and fight more, and allow food companies to sell their stock quicker, potentially a win win for this entire sector of our economy.

Worldwide, moving tickets are expensive.
If Canada can export them, money can be brought back into the Canadian economy. So lets take a step to help moving tickets to be produced cheap here at home. Lower the oil import tax to 1% to match grain and include it in our advertising.

Weapons Weapons Weapons.
Canada's weapons (especially at higher qualities) are high. With an import tax of 60% I believe it is safe to say barely any, if any at all, companies export weapons to Canada. This hurts our ability to inflict damage. Weapons can be a profitable industry however, so a complete drop in import tax level is not needed in the sector. Given the fact that many countries have far weaker currencies than us, weapon company GM's would still see Canada as a viable option for an export license at the 5% to 10% import tax level. Allowing more competition in the weapons sector will improve Canada's power, by allowing citizens and the CAF access to more affordable weapons.

Maintaining the currency peg.
Canada's currency has been stable for a long time and it seems to hold steady at .03/gold. This is crucial to Canada. If and when the currency dips, all efforts should be made to keep it steady. You all seem to do a fine job of this currently. Its tough to do since the monetary market is randomized these days.

Iron is the grease of a strong war machine.
Canada is blessed with iron and should protect it. Domestic Iron companies should be handled like grain in the income tax sector. Move the income tax to 5% to 10% on this sector and encourage domestic exporting, possibly through government loans.

Dying/Irrelevant sectors should be allowed to die off.
Admin will soon be removing houses, hospitals and defense systems are more or less useless as of now. Raise income taxes to 50% in these sectors and push our workforce into areas we need more production in in, i.e. grain, food, iron, weapons. It should also be coupled with a public announcement to our citizens explaining that these industries are dead and unnecessary for our nation. Sorry constructions GM's, I bit the bullet on a Q4 housing company in Israel myself, I know it sucks, but the faster we prepare our workforce the better.

These are a few of the observations I have made since my arrival. I hope to match myself to a political party who agrees with the basics of this, and kindly ask you to recruit me. Thanks to those of you who have reached out to me already, I look forward to hearing from you again. My overall hope is to help Canada continue to grow and prosper and help mold the perfect balance between military power and citizen power.

Thanks you for your time, I look forward to comments.
