2013 va fi mai interesant în eRepublik pentru că harta eRepublik va deveni un instrument real de joc, nu doar o "chestie" în Flash care nu merge pe iOrice sau Android, care a renunţat de asemenea la plugin-ul Adobe.

Pentru că mi-am făcut timp să ajung la sediul eRepublik şi la summit, am primit şi eu acces la noua hartă, aflată încă în dezvoltare. Evident, nu toate funcţiile planificate sunt implementate, iar cele prezente mai au nevoie de finisaje. Rolul articolului este informativ pentru jucători şi pe post de feedback pentru dezvoltatori. Iată stadiul dezvoltării la momentul redactării articolului:

- harta este bazată pe OpenLayers, un proiect solid pe care se poate construi şi care va evolua frumos în viitorul apropiat, cu menţiunea că are la bază JavaScript/jQuery şi solicită niţel procesorul pe durata utilizării - http://openlayers.org/

- pe PC merge bine, dar se încarcă şi funcţionează (deşi greoi momentan) şi în Android 4.0.3 pe ASUS Transformer TF101 (tabletă uşor depăşită hardware) în următoarele browsere:
> cel inclus
> Google Chrome
> Firefox (foarte greu, pinch-zoom funcţionează ciudat)
> Opera Mobile

- include un motor de căutare, pentru a ajunge rapid la regiunea dorită:


- afişează locaţia ta curentă:

Pentru a te deplasa imediat la locaţia ta curentă poţi apăsa pe butonul "căsuţă" din dreapta-jos.

- este planificată şi opţiunea full-screen (afişare pe tot ecranul) - butonul se poate vedea în colţul dreapta-jos

- două butoane laterale permit (dez)activarea unor straturi vizuale şi deplasarea rapidă într-o locaţie îndepărtată pe hartă:


- prin clic pe un oraş de pe hartă putem vedea câteva detalii:

Barele de defilare nu prea au ce căuta acolo, iar informaţiile din pop-up e posibil să fie mutate într-un loc mai accesibil, dar momentan totul e funcţional acolo şi se pot face următoarele:
> clic pe regiune (acolo unde zice Region: Transilvania) pentru zoom
> clic pe "Region of: Romania" sau pe "Liberated on..." pentru detalii despre ţară

- detaliile despre ţară arată aşa:

Cele două pop-up-uri cu informaţii se suprapun şi nu pot fi mutate momentan, dar cu siguranţă ăsta-i un aspect care va fi rezolvat elegant, că designerii şi dezvoltatorii front-end au dovedit de N ori că ştiu să facă treabă bună. 😉

- detaliile unei ţări parţial ocupate arată aşa:


- în sfârşit, regiunile ocupate arată ţara de origine şi ţara ocupatoare, alături de data ocupării (lucru care poate indica dacă un război de rezistenţă ar putea fi viabil sau nu):


- ciudat sau nu, SUA a reuşit să se cotropească pe sine 😛 (bug, presupun):

Întrebarea firească e... dacă tot sunt ocupaţi, pot americanii să deschidă un război de rezistenţă acolo? 😃

- frumos, acum având motorul de căutare putem găsi şi ţările cucerite în totalitate:

Din păcate nu-s evidenţiate în niciun fel, aşa că trebuie să facem puţin sport cu mausul. 😛


Şi-acum câteva idei, dorinţe, sugestii:
- un strat/layer Countries ar fi bun pentru identificarea uşoară a ţărilor după cum mi s-a atras atenţia în privat, ţările pot fi uşor vizualizate bifând câsuţa "Borders":

- ar fi frumos să putem vedea harta cu regiunile şi graniţele originale
- ar fi frumos ca atunci când caut şi dau clic pe o ţară, aceasta să fie evidenţiată cumva, fie cu graniţele marcate vizibil diferit, fie cu un fundal cu un contrast bun faţă de împrejurimi. Asta ar ajuta în mod special la identificarea ţărilor cucerite în întregime, dar şi a celorlalte.
- mutarea direct din hartă e deja o idee pe masa dezvoltatorilor şi ar fi într-adevăr un instrument util
- evidenţierea zonelor (A1, A2, B2 etc) printr-un strat/layer opţional ar fi un element informativ interesant la modul general, dar util celor care vor să vizualizeze zonele şi nu ştiu unde să le găsească în wiki
- pop-up-ul cu detaliile ţărilor ar putea arăta şi taxele şi să ofere legături către paginile cu aliaţi, legi şi altele
- în viitor, când (tragem nădejde că) s-or introduce alianţele în joc, va fi frumos să vedem alianţele afişate în culori diferite 🙂


În încheiere îi felicit pe dezvoltatori pentru grafică. Jos pălăria, domnilor (şi doamnelor/domnişoarelor?)! 🙂 Iar colegilor de joc... dacă aveţi întrebări despre lucruri care v-au ieşit în evidenţă dar pe care nu le-am detaliat, vă stau la dispoziţie. Voi şi edita articolul în consecinţă.

2013 will be more interesting in eRepublik because the new eRepublik map will actually become a tool, no just a Flash "thing" that doesn't work on iAnything nor Android, which gave up as well on the Adobe plugin.

Because I spared some time to go to the eRepublik HQ and the summit, I got access to the new map, still in development. Obviously, not all the planned features are implemented, and the ones presented below still need polishing. This article is meant to be informative to players and feedback to the developers. Here's the development status at the moment of my article:

- the map is based on OpenLayers, a solid project to build on, that will also evolve beautifully quite soon, project based on JavaScript/jQuery thus taking a toll on the CPU during its usage - http://openlayers.org/

- on a PC it works well, and it loads and works (although sluggish at the moment) in Android 4.0.3 as well, on an ASUS Transformer TF101 (a slightly obsolete tablet) in the following browsers:
> the default/included one
> Google Chrome
> Firefox (very slow, pinch-zoom also working unexpectedly)
> Opera Mobile

- it includes a search engine, so you can quickly reach the wanted region:


- it displays your current location:

In order to move to your current location you can press the "house" button bottom-right.

- the full-screen option is planned - as you can see the button in the bottom-right corner

- two side buttons allow you to (dis/e)nable visual layers and fast movement on far locations on the map:


- by clicking a city you can see a few details:

The scroll bars don't quite belong there, and the pop-up information might be moved to a more accessible place, but right now everything works where it is and you can do the following:
> click the region (where it says Region: Transilvania) to zoom
> click on "Region of: Romania" or on "Liberated on..." for details about that country

- the country details look like this:

The two info pop-ups overlap and right now they can't be moved, but that's certainly one detail that will be gracefully solved, because the designers and the front-end developers proved plenty of times they're up for a good job. 😉

- the details of a partially occupied country look like this:


- finally, the occupied regions now show both the owner country and the occupying country, along with the occupation date (which could indicate if a resistance war could be successful or not):


- strangely, the USA managed to conquer itself 😛 (bug, I suppose):

The obvious question that comes to mind is... while being occupied, can the Americans open a resistance war out there? 😃

- nice, now that we have a search engine we can also find fully conquered (erased) countries:

Unfortunately they're not highlighted in any way, so you'll have to jog around with your mouse. 😛


And now some ideas, wishes, suggestions:
- a Countries layer would be good to easily identify the countries as pointed out in private, the countries can be easily spotted by clicking the "Borders" checkbox:

- it would be nice if we could see the map with the original regions and borders
- when searching and clicking a country it would be nice if it would get somehow highlighted, either by visibly different borders, or a background with good contrast compared to the surrounded areas. This would especially help to identify erased countries bot others as well.
- the idea of moving directly from the map is already on the developers' table and it would be indeed a useful tool
- highlighting the zones (A1, A2, B2 etc) by an optional layer would be an interesting informative feature, in general, but also useful for those who want to see the zones but are unable to find them in the wiki
- the country details pop-up could also show the taxes and link to the pages of their allies, laws and others
- in the future, when (hopefully) we'll have alliances in-game, it will be nice to have a nice overview of the alliances, displayed in different colors 🙂


Finally, I want to congratulate the developers for the graphic. Hats off, guys (and gals?)! 🙂 And to our fellow game colleagues... if you have questions about things that were obvious for you but I haven't detailed, I'm all yours. I will also edit the articol accordingly.
