Interview with Oblige

Day 1,481, 15:44 Published in USA USA by Cleveland Fleman

How did you come across eRepublik?
I came from a game called NationStates 2. It was glorious, but short lived. Because of technical glitches the Admins who managed it, decided that it was not worth the hassle and shut it down. When I played I met a group of friends and after the shut down we decided to setup a temporary forum with the purpose of finding new games. We decided to play eRepublik.

What was your first impression of eRepublik when you started?
I liked it. It was back in the V1 days when I joined. It was the first nicely designed browser game I played coming from NationStates.

What was the first political party you joined?
I was in SF at the time and Angelini needed blockers, so I joined the Feds to be a blocker and ended up accidentally winning my race.

What do you think makes a good political party?
That is a tough question, but its really the community. Everything else is just to facilitate that.

What do you think of the AMP?
The thing about the AMP is that it seems that it was made just to be anti-USWP, which isn’t a strong platform. The AMP needs to find there own way. Another thing is that their congressmen and women need to find their own causes. I was really impressed with Morrigan Alexandros for stepping up and proposing legislation. I rarely see a AMPer do this.

What do you think about the JCS v. Government situation?
Well its not ideal, but at the moment I think it is as good as its going to get. In my administration people wont be allowed to flame the eUSMil if the military will adopt a similar posture. Also I would like to remove the negative reference to TC in the New Citizen Message.

What do you feel about eAustralia leaving Eden?
I feel Australia has (somewhat) over-reacted. A commitment to an alliance isn’t a month to month thing. However, I do sympathize with their frustration in not being heard in Eden HQ.

How do you plan to help out our displaced allies such as Croatia in Mexico and Romania in Latvia and Estonia?
To be honest I think our allies are thriving, due to that displacement being so close to our enemies they are always being attacked so moving gives them a great deal of freedom.

How do you believe we can deal with One? What do you think their weakness is?
The weakness in ONE is that its an alliance based on math, not compatibility, history, or loyalty. Don’t mistake it for perfect, there are cracks in the foundation of that alliance.

You've held many positions in various cabinets and such what is your favorite position in a cabinet?
I really like being in foreign affairs. I am sort of a SoS for life. That’s been my foundation. When I was appointed as SoS, I inherited a department that had no channels, no organization, no staff, and no docs. When I pass it on to Alexander Auctoritas, my next SoS, it will have an international rolodex, public and private channels, a fledgling Ambassador program and some real staff.

Do you find it hard to coordinate with allies because of language barrier oblige?
Not really, broken English is the international language.

What advice do you have for new players?
Be audacious. I started off as a Deputy Deputy SoD with a tinny badge and started PMing Bradley Reala about how to improve JCS/Government relationships. He was surprised to say the least, but it paid off.
