No no, dico sul serio, chiedeteglielo.

International speech of the Assyrian king, Assur, after the conquest of Babylon, 1146 BC.

It is a huge honor to be here, today, in front of you all.
Really, this means a lot to me.
So, first of all, I want to thank you. I thank everyone for honoring me with your presence. You don’t know what it means to have this, and to be here, tonight, with you, despite everything that has happened.
You know, after I threw my enemies from the city walls, so that dogs could consume their dying bodies, many people said that I would not take a single step further, and that this town would be my grave.
But they were wrong.

Honestly, I don't care if someone says I'm cruel and ruthless, because my people and I know we're fighting for a good cause.
Mind you, I’m the first one to admit: I’m not perfect. I am really far from perfect. I mean, I too stole the grain from the conquered cities, I emptied the pot of piss over the merchants' tents, I boiled my political opponents alive, I hid lizards in the tunics of my concubines, I whipped my dromedary, I took out the eyes, I have skinned and impaled the reactionaries, I raped underaged girls. In short, I am a human being, and as such I have everyone's faults.

But I didn’t do any, I repeat, any of the terrible things I’m accused of doing. Well, I must say, I did them, but… You have to look at them from another perspective: you know, a lot of the people I tortured and massacred really enjoyed it.
No no, I’m serious, ask them. Oh well, you can’t ask them cause they’re dead, but I can assure you that they were all very happy and proud to voluntarily sacrifice themselves for their homeland. Trust me.

And that's why I wanted to be here tonight to share my story with you and the whole world. Because it is also thank to you that I was able to achieve all this. It is you who have allowed me to make this memorable victory.
So, I would just like to say to everyone tonight: THANK YOU.
Thank you for not moving a single finger against me. Thank you for reducing everything to a social-economic chatter. Thank you for allowing me to express and share all my artistic imagination. And it is just thanks to your continuous “doing nothing” that my army is still strong, united and mighty, and right now it is preparing for the conquest of Jerusalem, Phenicia and Egypt.

Therefore, once again, thank you!
