Discussion Point: MPPs are they worth it?

Day 3,747, 00:26 Published in Ireland United Kingdom by Rusty D

Dear citizens of eIreland,

We all know that one of the regular laws that is passed in most enations are ones of Mutual Protection Pacts or MPP for short. These MPP laws, allows an offensive and defensive agreement between two nations. Basically...

"If one country in the pact attacks another non-pact country, or is attacked by another non-pact country, the other pact country automatically becomes an ally in the war. If a country is an ally in the war, its citizens can fight for their ally from their homeland. This agreement is favourable because you can count on your partners to come to your defence if you are attacked. On the other hand, you will be forced to fight against any attacker of the countries linked to this agreement - even if that attacker is a partner of your country in another Alliance."

These agreements come at a cost of 10,000cc per country, so if country A signs one with country B, both of them will have to pay the 10,000cc. And if we look at the Irish MPP stack, we can see a total of 10 MPPs still active or a total cost of 100,000cc to renew them all.

Whilst these agreements tend to be valid for 30 days, they can be cancelled due to a 'Friend of a Friend' clause, or in a better term:

Although MPPs have given expiration times, they are automatically cancelled if a country attacks a country that shares a common MPP with it (known as the friend of a friend cancellation)

Example: If Sweden and Germany both have a MPP with Poland, and Sweden attacks Germany, the MPP between Sweden and Poland is cancelled.

Which is what happened when Uruguay and South Korea entered into there Training War, eIreland lost their MPP with Uruguay and with it the 10,000cc that it cost us.

To prevent this from happening, one way is to use outside tools like this site which can show us if we were to invade/AS/have a TW with a nation, which MPPs will be effected.

When are MPPs effective?

At a cost of 10k each, as well as the fact the more MPPs you have, the higher the cost of conducting an AS is (the energy requirement is based on this formula Energy units required = (country citizenship population + all allies population) * 250), having a large stack of MPPs can actually limit the military options given to a nation (due to cost of AS and friend of friend clause) as well as impact on its monthly budgeting.

So when are they effective, back in the day, they were effective when the government worked hand in hand with their allies and tabled daily orders to include allies who might need some assistance. However in todays game, more and more people find it easier to freely travel to do battles or to chase CO rather then see who is their allied nation. This is not helped when governments do not release daily orders or the MU citizens are apart of, do not list MPP nations in their priority stack.

However they are effective when a country is fighting for it's freedom. As they allow (with communication between nations) fighters from another nation, to join battles, with out the need of a moving ticket. This where the cost of an MPP might make it much easier for a nation to fight against any oppressors.

In peace time there is also sometimes a need for a greater MPP stack. Since an attacking country, might do some research into their plan target and see that it would be harder then they think when the target has plenty of MPPs. After all, if Ireland was to attack lets say Australia who has 1 MPP, it would be considered easier then to take on Iran who has 19 MPPs (in the sense of allied power and not individual country power).

When are MPPs not cost effective?

Currently eIreland is apparently in a 'Training War'. This is roughly the same across the board with most enations, they are either in an agreed upon training war or a forced training war. With only a few actual proper wars being fought.

With this in mind, one would have to wonder what is the need to spend 10,000cc on renewing a MPP that will never be used. Taking eIreland for example, if we currently have 10 MPPs and yet are not looking at doing any hostile actions, wouldnt it be better for the government to spare that 100,000cc per month to be used elsewhere or saved for another battle?

This is a large amount of money for a nation that only earns roughly 45,000cc a month. If one of our allies do decide to do an attack, an MPP can be proposed in the lead up to the attack or in the case of an AS, after there AS law has been proposed (to reduce the cost of the AS).

So does eIreland need a big MPP Stack

If you listen to the narrative of the government of eIreland, you will here that we are broke, this was shown when the Ministry of Community had to beg for cash to be used for events, as well as when the VCP wanted to raise taxes to help pay for more MPPs. We are currently in a lovely TW, going from the CPs own article. So is there an actual need for MPPs or pretty much any MPP?

Looking at the 10 we have, majority are in training wars themselves and some are even not at war.

So I ask you, is the desire to have a big MPP stack worth the cost? or would the money be better spent elsewhere or saved for future actions?

Thanking you,
Rusty D
