Being an engineer and a baseball geek, I actually get what you did here.
If you wanted to take this one step further, you could get more into the material properties of the bat & ball (i.e. deformational hysteresis on impact), swing speeds (basically, F=ma), swing angles in relation to the horizon, effects of rotation from certain pitches, and maybe even the timing of a swing in relation to timing of a pitch's release for best results (which would take a lot of assumptions for the numerous variables).
Anyway, I like it.
