A story about a town called boredom.

Brussels just heard of the disaster of Helligo. The eRupublik state is proclaimed. All of eBelgium is full of madness. Everybody is playing at soldier from one end to the country to the other.
Chocolate makers become colonels answering to the commands of generals. Revolvers and rifles are displayed on proud bodies dressed in new shiny uniforms. Common citizens turn in to warriors, commanding battalions of volunteers and swearing like real troopers just to emphasize their importance. The very fact of bearing arms and handling guns excites people who pervious only hard working men and woman in chocolate factories or bakeries and farmers. They feel glorious and they even execute a few just to prove they know how to kill.
Each believes himself called upon t play a great role in military affairs. The cafés of the villages are filled with men in uniform. Stores resemble barracks or fieldhospitals.

Not the town of Verviers, a little peaceful country town does not yet know the exciting news of the army and the Capital. It is however been greatly agitated for ages over an encounter between rival political parties. The PP from the red party and mayor from Verviers Apa, is a small thin man and of considerable age. He is a diehard old school man. Even more so now he has got a strong adversary in the great Sjo who is a doctor and also head of the blue party. In two weeks he had induced sixty-three men to volunteer in defense of their country--married men, fathers of families, prudent farmers and merchants of the town. These he drilled every morning in front of Apa’s window. Whenever Apa appeared Sjo would make his troop shout , "Long live our country!" It didn’t escaped them that the little Apa was very disturbed by this because he himself had a great recollection from the great revolution.

It was now on the morning of this day he turned on the new radio he got of a patient he heard the great news. Dr.Sjo opened the door, grew pale, straightened himself abruptly and, raised his arms to heaven in a gesture of exaltation, cried out with all his might.
"Long live the Republic! Long live the Republic! Long live the Republic!"

While equipping himself from head to foot he gave a series of urgent orders to the mai😛
"Run to Lieutenant Pressure's and to Sublieutenant Atease's and say to them that I want them here immediately. Send Sloweby to me too, with his drum. Quick now! Quick!" And when the maid was gone he collected his thoughts and prepared to surmount the difficulties of the situation.

The three men arrived together. They were in their working clothes. The commander, who had expected to see them in uniform, had a fit of surprise.
"You know nothing, then? The King has been taken prisoner. A republic is proclaimed.

He reflected for some minutes before the astonished faces of his subordinates and then continue😛

"It is necessary to act, not to hesitate. Minutes now are worth hours at other times. Everything depends upon promptness of decision. You, Slowby, go and find the curate and get him to ring the bell to bring the people together, while I get ahead of them. You, Atease, beat the call to assemble the militia in arms, in the square. You, Pressure, put on your uniform at once, that is, the jacket and cap. We, together, are going to take possession of the Red parties headquarter.

But the already little Apa had learned of Sjo’s plans and was prepared when they finally came. He barricaded the mayors house and blocked all of the the towns entry roads. There was no way in or out any more. Sjo didn’t want to go to war so he raised a resistance army solemnly for the purpose of blocking his citizens go to war. A lot of people in his little town were as old as him and carried the scares from the great revolution. All they wanted was to live in peace so he got a lot of support.

The two parties couldn’t agree on helping with the great war and it came to a standoff for days that turned in to weeks …and even months. By that time all of the country was in arms against the great oppressors from the New world order and fought for King and country. The battle was glorious but not for the people from Verviers. They missed it all due to petty squabbles of two parties. Poor, poor souls missed all the fun!!
And so this story ends with boredom and despair for the people in that little town that was so friendly and peaceful!
