2 Lame Ducks walk into a CP Election

Day 1,285, 13:35 Published in Canada Canada by Muglack

I bet you thought after reading that title this would be a joke article. Well you're partially right.

As the June CP election is taking shape there appears to be 4 main candidates looking for a spot on the ticket. Myself, Irontoader, Aeriala and the incumbent Kazuo LeBlanc.

Quite the election shaping up.

1 Candidate with a little eWorld experience but as of yet no time in a real big chair in Irontoader - with 240 days he hasn't been around as long as the rest of us.

1 Candidate with a "colorful" past who knows how to wring as much as he can out of the game but has stepped on a few heads to do it. (Hi, that's me!)

And the 2 candidates referenced in my article title. Previous presidents that have proven themselves to be lame-ducks who can't get things done.

Let's start with the incumbent. Now the easiest thing to do would be start throwing mud, and tearing him down, but I can't really do that.

On May 4th I would of said that if we made it this far with Kaz in charge and the country was still in tact I would consider his term as president a success. But now looking back I can't call it that. Was he successful as a player? Sure. He fought of impeachments, he grew as a President, and realized then corrected a lot of the misconceptions we had about how the game worked. But does growing as a player make you a success at a job? I don't think so.

I helped him where I could with conversations on IRC and through PMs in game. I released an article asking his critics to give him a chance, and went so far as to threaten them that if they impeached him without cause I'd make them regret it. I also talked to the most vocal of the critics and asked them to give him a chance. I did everything I could to keep the country out of chaos despite losing a close election where I thought, and in hindsight Kaz might even agree with me, I was the better candidate.

Was Kaz an ideal president? No, he wasn't. Was Kaz a complete disaster? Not at all. If anything he continued the "Drama Free" precedent set by Jacobi in the previous two months. Status Quo was maintained, maybe with a bit more public outcry, but maintained none the less. But that's not what was promised. He told us he was "READY" when he wasn't at all. I don't begrudge him winning the election but at the same time I don't want the country to subsidize another month contributing to his education.

That leads us to the other "Lame Duck" president in the race. Aeriala. The details surrounding his ascent to power are a little different. He was the runner up in the month he eventually took the reigns. Then Wes Lewis happened, and Aeriala got bumped up to the big chair when Wes was impeached.

Maybe it's the way he got the Presidency, or just his nature, but once he took control nothing happened. The CAD started it's long march into obscurity, and the country as a whole started down the same path.

War with the UK, trouble in Europe, blah blah blah. Same old, same old. At least that's what I'm assuming. If memory serves the populace wasn't exactly kept up to date on what was happening. In fact during Aeriala's term the country was so completely disheartened that Congress ground to a halt due to lack of active congressmen.

But none of that matters in my opinion. Aeriala will come out with articles full of revisionist history, telling you what he did, and why he's the best, and that's all well and good and he can have fun writing those articles. The problem with Aeriala is what he did after his term was over.

Thinking he did a good job he decided to run for re-election assuming he was beloved enough to get another shot at it legit.

Well the country felt otherwise. In fact, he was 3rd by a considerable margin. What did Aeriala do then? Did he act like a man, take the defeat and do what he could to help the country move forward like a recent non-winner did? Of course not. He completely flipped his lid. Attacked everyone, called the country idiots, and gave up his eCanadian citizenship and ran to the eUK to start over.

That's right ladies and gentlemen, The Great Revisionist ragequit on our country. We were no longer worthy of his presence. The funniest part is, after he left the country started righting itself again. Weird how that works.

What this election boils down to is simple. As much respect as I have for Irontoader, and I plan on offering him a spot in my cabinet, as it stands right now I see a 3 Horse race.

Myself, Aeriala, and Kaz. Unfortunately if this really was a horserace 2 of the 3 candidates would of already been sent to the glue factory because they came up lame.

Kaz is a great guy, and maintained the status quo, but the country shouldn't have to subsidize another month of his education.

Aeriala is the great revisionist. The country didn't want him after he had done a "great job" because he simply hadn't and we knew it at the time. In fact, he hadn't even done a good enough job to be the runner up in the next election. When it was clear he wasn't as appreciated as he thought he should be he attacked the country and fled it's borders. Don't let him slime his way back in and let him do it all over again.

And finally myself. Am I the perfect choice for President? Of course not, but no one is (Adam Sutler aside). But I have the experience and knowledge needed so I wouldn't be getting an education at the cost of the country. I've proven in the past month that I'm a stand up person. The way I handled losing the election by less than 3% of the popular vote (hard to figure out the exact number with Cypher on the ballot anymore) and doing nothing but trying to strengthen Kaz's position as President is proof of that. And I'm more than willing and able to do much more than maintain the status quo.

So with all that in mind on June 5th please remember that a vote for me, is a vote for a stronger eCanada in the future.

P.S. Sorry for the wall of text and lack of pictures. I'll try and do better in the future.
