[Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?] Series 2, Episode 1

Day 5,646, 16:16 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by ArchieSmith

Hello, and welcome to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, the best, most interactive, most intense quiz and game show in all of eRepublik! After five years off the air, it's great to be back, and boy do we want to give away a ridiculous amount of money! That's why, at the end of this series, we'll be bringing back our top players from throughout this new season for a chance at ten million pence - that's £100,000! Our first contestant, the first foray back into the Hot Seat after five long years, is Paul Tyndale!

AS: Paul Tyndale, welcome to Millionaire! How are you doing today?

PT: Good, but a little nervous now.

AS: Nonsense! A little good clean nihilistic fun never hurt a fly. And you, my friend, have just won yourself a cool thousand pence, just for being on our show!

PT: Great!

AS: Answer 10 questions correctly in a row, and we'll one thousand-uple that to a million pence - ten thousand pounds!

PT: I'm ready as i'm going to be...

Let's remind those at home of our money tree.

AS: You have three lifelines to help you: 50:50, Ask a Friend, and Stop the Clock. You have a decision to make at the outset: do you want to play in normal mode or risky mode? In normal mode, you get to set a safety net after any one correct answer, but you play with only 3 minutes on your time bank. In risky mode, there's no safety net, but you have four minutes and an extra Stop the Clock lifeline. So what's it gonna be?

PT: Ok, I think risky mode, as the extra time sounds good.

AS: Risky mode it is! That means four lifelines for you: 50:50, Phone a Friend, and two opportunities to stop the clock. Each question will be sent as an image file. Once the image is sent, the clock will start. To stop the clock, either lock in your answer (make sure to say "final"!), or say you want to use a lifeline.

PT: Okay!

AS: For 2,000 pence, your first question:

PT: Canberra, final.

AS: With 3:45 on the clock, it's the right answer!

AS: For 4,000...

PT: Harper Lee, final.

AS: 3:33 remaining in the bank... Well done!

AS: Right - for 8,000...

PT: Mercury, final.

AS: 3:10 still on the clock... Well played!

AS: For 16,000...

PT: Rossini, final.

AS: 2:49 on the clock... It's right!

AS: Almost halfway to the million now.

PT: Yay, bit of a guess!

AS: Saving your lifelines for the tougher questions, I see indeed!

PT: What happens if I stop the clock?

AS: You can take as much time as you want for the question without decreasing your time bank. Basically, in risky mode, if you run out of time without locking in an answer or walking away, it's as though you've given a wrong answer. So do be careful!

PT: Okay. Right, yes.

AS: Next question is for 25,000.

PT: No idea, so play 50:50.

AS: Clock stops for that. The computer will now randomly remove two wrong answers!

AS: Start the clock!

PT: 2007, final.

AS: It's locked in.

AS: And it's the right answer!

PT: Another guess.

AS: You're now halfway to the million. You've got 2:11 left in your time bank, an Ask a Friend lifeline, and two Stop the Clock lifelines at your disposal. The questions get a bit tougher from here, but with those lifelines in tow I know you can do it! Would you like to set your safety net at 25,000 pence?

PT: Carry on.

AS: Then for 50,000... lights down!

PT: Ottawa, final.

AS: With 1:51 remaining, you've locked it in...

AS: It's right! Four away from a million, three lifelines left including two clock-stoppers. Ready?

PT: Yep!

The lights go down for the 100,000 pence question.

PT: Never heard of it... so I'd better guess... Picasso. Final.

AS: Or you could use a lifelin--he said final...

AS: I'm so sorry, but I'm afraid it's the wrong answer!

PT: Noooooooooo!

AS: Guts balls, my friend. You played an exceptional game with very solid time management, but you left some lifelines on the table in the hopes of using them later! You leave us with 1,000 pence and our thanks for a great game indeed!

PT: Great, it's been fun.

What can I say? It's the magic of Millionaire! And it's only just begun - Paul has gotten himself on our list of past players. At the end of this series, the top five players (first by money won, then by question reached, then by time in the bank) will be invited back for a shot at ten million pence - that's £100,000!
