[Weekstrom] On the 2nd Orion Games

Day 3,844, 15:47 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by Weekstrom

You all have been able to read the outcome of the Orion Games here. That outcome did not come without a fight though!

At the start we as NL did not score that well or at least it looked like Estonia was going to win with ease and we’d be 3rd or 4th. However with frequent monitoring and updating our soldiers, adding a bonus on air damage from day 5 on and some CO money from gov we managed to pull off a stunt that also was perfectly timed. Without much text I present to you the progress of the scores during the week.

Ground performance
When it comes to ground damage we looked rather comfortable from the start. Although after the first day we were “just” 2nd with a 0.25% difference after Estonia from day 2 on we’ve always had the lead even with me not fighting on the ground on days 3 and 5 when I attended the air as we were not scoring well there. Our ground damage position was never threatened really

It became way more close when it comes to ground kills. We had a comfortable lead immediately but because we had to focus on the air for extra points and asked soldiers to fly rather than drive and because Israel stepped up their game the difference became marginal. Israel even took the lead after day 6 but after day 7 we were back in the lead again.

That combined meant we won both damage and kills categories on the ground. Below you’ll find the total progress on those categories as well as the daily scores;

Air performance
In the air it was a different story as we did not score there at the start. So after a few days we started pushing people there. I myself promised part of my reward money to the ones fighting in the air and gov did set some CO in air rounds in an attempt to nibble off some points from Estonia. Israel however did put up a fierce fight with us in the ground so we had to watch our back at the same time. We did however have the feeling we would be able to become split second or maybe even get second spot alone so we kept on monitoring and encouraging soldiers.
Israel and especially Cuba were in a different league when it came to air performance.

The development in both air damage and kills progress as well as on a daily basis can be found below;

Impressive to see the increase of air damage and air kills the last few days from NL!

Damage per capita
There was no way any nation could threaten Estonia when it comes to damage and kills output per capita on the ground. They scored the highest in both categories by far. Impressive stuff!
In the air they also scored the highest. However in both categories they were set to be overtaken by Cuba that was charging hard. They did back-off however the last few days. If they wouldn't have the outcome of the games would likely have been even more surprising.

The outcome
As a surprising result we ended up first in the end. And although we kept monitoring and guide people in the direction where we needed them it did come as a surprise that we became first. The last 2 days were key where we first overtook 3rd spot from Estonia for air kills and in the last day did so as well with air damage.

First you’ll find the total score over time, after that the detailed development per country. I left Canada out of the latter as they were a very constant factor scoring 0 points every day. Just like the planned on doing if I’m informed correctly;

See what would have happened if Cuba had taken 2 point extra for damage and kills per capita in the air? Both would have been taken from Estonia. Estonia would have been last and Cuba split first with the Netherlands!

Extra (air) rewards
Now I did promise to reward players active in the air in an attempt to reach a higher spot. I do not have information on the amount of cc I will receive from the Orion Games so am not able yet to announce the amount I’ll split among the pilots fighting after day 4 but below you’ll find the percentage of the cc you can get as well as the amount of gold some of you will receive. Thank you all pilots. You people made a huge difference in the end along with the ones retaking and maintaining our ground kill amount! I did not record individual data like I did with the pilots but you know who you are. Thx!

That leaves one thing; Thanks Orion crew for organising the 2nd Orion Games. It was 12 weeks between the first and second Games. Again in 12 weeks time? Should be just after the holiday season in that case.
