[UKGOV] Vote Aware, fight the PTO!
eUK Home Office
Political Takeover
A Political Takeover (here on referred to as PTO) is when a malicious candidate attempts to become elected to a position, in order to pursue a disruptive agenda. Invariably these takeovers are harmful to the eCountry.
Typically a PTO Party President will use the position to select other PTO'ers as official congress candidates, instead of that party's loyal members. They might also select themself or another malicious candidate to run for Country President (CP), in an attempt to PTO the entire eCountry and usually steal the treasury!
As you can see a successful PTO is highly dangerous, and once they manage to take root, they can continue getting nefarious Congressmen elected. Each PTO congressman is then capable of approving 5 citizenship requests from members of enemy eCountries, which could be 5 more voters to keep the PTO team in power.
Anti-takeover
There are several ways to beat a political takeover, which are referred to as an anti-takeover (her on referred to as ATO). An ATO will be managed by the current Country President and his Ministers, as well as official Party Presidents. An ATO utilises vote direction and in-game official candidates selection in order to deny any PTO candidates an election victory or even a chance to run. It is always important to be aware when you vote in elections, but even more so when there is a PTO risk. If you ever have any doubts about candidates and/or don't know where and for whom you should vote, then the best thing to do is to contact someone you can trust in a position of authority. For Party President elections this could be any government official/the Country President, for Country President and Congress elections this could be your Party President.
Political Takeovers usually gain votes by three methods:
Multiple accounts
Sadly the eRepublik admins don't catch all of the multiple accounts out there for various reasons. However, leaving cynicism and accusations of apathy and incompetence out of this, its a problem and we have to try our best to deal with it. I'd like to encourage vigilance in the general population, and hope that you all report any suspicious accounts in a ticket to the admins. The only way we can reduce the risk posed by multiple accounts is to report them and hope they become banned before they become a problem.
You can send a ticket by clicking the 'Contact' link at the bottom of the page.
Sleeper agents/Foreigners with Citizenship
An enemy eCountry may have citizens with another country's citizenship working, training and fighting just like everyone else. However, come election time, they will be ready to vote Party President/Congress/Country President candidates in the interests of the PTO. Normal a government tries to counter this with a Minister of Immigration or a Citizenship Commitee or something similar. This is essentially a person or group of people that decide who to give citizenship and who not to give citizenship, they usually make the decisions based on the citizenship applicant's country of origin and that citizen's reputation if they have one.
Should you get elected to congress in the eUK, be aware that you are expected to follow the citizenship commitee's decisions on who to use your citizenship passes on!
Misinformation
A political takeover can often gain votes via propaganda. They would send messages to citizens that seem genuine, add many citizens as friends and release many articles to gain visibility. Unfortunately these are similar to methods utilized by beneign candidates too, so its often hard to work out which candidates are official! If you pay attention to articles released by trusted sources and players, they will often contain information about which candidates are official. I'd urge anyone to contact their Party President on congress elections if they are in doubt about who they are voting for. For the upcoming Party President elections it would be advisible to vote the candidates listed in this article, or to ask any minister or the country president if you have doubts.
Since our beautiful eCountry is at risk of a political takeover of a top 5 party, each party has submitted an official Party President candidate whom they urge their party's loyal voters to vote for. They are listed below:
Official Party President Candidates
UK Reform Party
Sir Humphrey Appleby
The Unity Party
Courtneys
Every Single One
Veruvia
People's Communist Party
Keithunder
UK Democratic Party
Elvis Trout

Anotherlamedrunk if you want to troll you could at least put a little more effort in to it.
Fantastic!
VOTED
This is rich...
There is no PTO only other British citizens who don't want to be told there is an "official" candidate.
What a PTO does is join the party just before the nominations for party president close.
Pretent to support the party like this:
From Sir Isaac Newton: Hello Comrade,
I would like to lead the People's Communist Party in the next month. I have a plan to spread a socialist agenda throughout the eUK and to increase the membership of the party, I ask for your vote if you want a PCP which is stronger and which promotes a communal environment for the entire nation.
Thank You.
Sir Isaac Newton PRS
Member of Parliament for Wales
He forgets to mention that he is the UKRP (Centre right) member of parliament for wales
Presumably when he stood for election his manefesto was a bit different!
They no longer want him so he changes his politics and his party.
When a PTO takes over they do their best to destroy the party they lead.
This is dishonest cowardly and despicable act and a few other words I can think of!
Should mention vote bribing with supplies/money/positions.
it's a big part of most pto activities
Wouldn't most parties have more than one official candidate?... Otherwise it's not an election, it's just a transition of power. The ATO seems to be doing more prevention of democracy than promotion of democracy.
A better solution would be to identify the potentially dangerous candidates rather than deciding a party's 'official' candidates for them.
The parties would do a vote between different part president candidates on their party forums and run the winner as official candidate.
The parties are democratic. The official candidates are elected by the forum members.
If it were not for the PTO activities it would be possible to have real elections in game!
Doing it when they are around is making it easier for them!
Exactly what Keithunder said.
Last thing you want to do when there's a PTO PP Candidate is to have 2-3 of your own to split votes between. All that will achieve is making the PTO easier, so sadly we have to avoid using game mechanics to decide on Party Presidents when there is PTO risk.
By using a forum vote the engaged and active party members can support a candidate they know is not a danger.
Voted!
"each party has submitted an official Party President candidate whom they urge their party's loyal voters to vote for"
So SHA instructed his party to vote for himself.
eKorea was able to better handle the PTO cuz we communicated in Korean which the Romanian FSR's didnt know know how to speak! They've recently been completely excluded from the government, and now Korea's booted off the eRepublik map, since the angry FSR's fight on Chinese side...boy, they're strong. I want citizenship elsewhere.
lol, idiot 'democrats' are anti-democratic.
You've basically bipassed democracy by selecting 'official' candidates in an ELECTION. MoD are the real PTO'ers. Join UKPP for a democratic alternative.
Maybe you should post an article saying "Retain skeptisism when someone you didn't know tells you they're official."
