[UKGov]UK Today #2 - 7 Questions With Ergo Deus

Day 1,784, 12:36 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by eUK Home Office

Hello and welcome to the second edition of this month’s UK Today! Yes, we’re back in our cosy old Home Affairs newspaper that we know and love. After what was a pretty good start to the new UK Today with our interview with Talon Karrde, the current CP, we’ve decided to move one notch down the chain of command and ask Ergo Deus, the vice-President of the eUK, some questions about what he’d like to see happen. Enjoy!

1. How's it shaking?

Like an incredible Polaroid picture. The first few days in the cabinet have been exciting to say the least. Considering last term was particularly quiet, people seem to be responding really well to the high level of contact from the government. There are ministry articles left, right and center which is something that's been lacking for a while.

We've got a really solid team who are getting on very well together.

2. Many people know what a president's job entails, what are the duties of the vice-President?

Normally, the vCP is a rather ceremonial role that doesn't involve a great deal of work. Partly at my behest and partly at Talon's instruction, this month will be slightly different. I am involved in organising and managing the cabinet. That means making sure they are releasing their public articles regularly and on-time; ensuring they have what they need to do their job and offering assistance should they need it. It involves shadowing the ministers in their roles and learning about their particular area by watching them in action.

Perhaps, more importantly, it's also about offering a second public point of contact for the government. If Talon is unavailable, I'm always happy to field queries and questions. I also act a second pair of eyes and ears for him if he's unable to address a problem or concern. I can pop into a channel or open a dialogue with someone he needs to talk to but perhaps doesn't have the time to.

3. What do you plan on bringing to the table as the vice-president of the eUK?

Ultimately, since I have a rather short political history in contrast to some of the other members of the cabinet, my value comes from my activity and my commitment to work. Whatever needs to be done, I'm always there and always happy to do it. I try to maintain close contacts with the main and the minor parties in the UK so that I can convey messages to and between them in a more friendly manner.

In relation to parties, I'm also organising an inter-party conference to try and hash out the major issues plaguing the UK. My goal is to put any genuine hatred to bed and, instead, foster a healthy political competition in the UK. Stagnation through boredom is our biggest enemy and a genuinely competitive political scene will counter that.

4. What's the main thing you, personally, would you like to get out of the term and how?

My plan is to run for President in November - this was widely known but this article will make it a public fact. To this end, my goal is to build a strong network of domestic and international contacts, improve my public exposure and demonstrate my ability to work effectively at the top end of government. I hope that I can achieve these general targets and potentially even more.

5. What's your opinion on the state of current alliances and our position within them?

I think the UK is in an extremely advantageous position. The option to step into CTRL's alliance circle is on the table. The flexible commitments it affords allows us to maintain MPP's with our other long term allies while strengthening our alliances with Spain and Poland alongside building bridges with the USA and Brazil.

I have to draw attention to concern about where it puts us in relation to Chile but this is a concern shared by most UK citizens so I don't ever see it actually being a negative issue. Our citizens are unlikely to ever fight against our Chilean allies and would likely make a measured effort to continue to support them.

6. What personal changes would you like to see happen, if it's up to you?

Plans are already in place to develop a sustainable platform to support a national army. I would hope that is perpetuated and advanced by every incoming CP for the foreseeable future.

My own plans involve developing an intensive mentoring system for prospective politicians by setting them up in Under/Deputy Minister roles to prepare them for getting involved in government and taking on the full ministerial roles.

On a foreign affairs note, I'd love to see repair of our relations with the likes of Germany.

7. What's your opinion on Talon's manifesto, and is there anything you'd change if you could and why?

The great thing is that Talon's manifesto and much about the plans for this month were discussed between myself, prospective cabinet members and him at length before anything was really set in stone. The whole thing was influenced by dozens of different voices and opinions to mould it into a manifesto that both represented what Talon's government hopes to do this month while also conveying the needs and wants of the greater populace.
