Throughout the latter years of my eLife I was firmly of the belief that the future of eIreland as military power was in the establishment of a single army using communes as a means of supplying every Irish citizen willing to work and fight for eIreland.
From the days of when Brian Boru put forward Project Lambda to the foundation of the Irish Army I have always been of this opinion.
In the form of the Irish Army this was established but as time passed individual inadequacies, since the original founders, from those who ran the Irish Army coupled with the admin removal of ORG owned companies has resulted in the Irish Army becoming exactly what it had attempted to rid. It became inactive with many important members rarely attempted to promote activity among it's varying divisions and the whole thing fell into an all too familiar monotonous state previously associated with the IDF.
This is quite difficult for me to say as a founding member of the IA, but I feel that drastic measures need to be taken in order to restore some of this activity that we've been missing and some of the spice to playing eRepublik. I believe that the commune system within the Irish Army should be stopped and only used by an elite group of which you can volunteer for. Any body who wishes to remain in the Irish Army can and will receive up to date orders from the Commander and the MoD. The Irish Army should also store weapons for times of war.
Individual MU's, of which we have many, should be responsible for the arming of the members of it's Military Unit on a daily basis. It should be responsible for it's own recruitment and also responsible for creating activity among it's rank with competitions and awards for damage and consistency.
Obviously I am for the establishment of a committee containing the MoD and the various commanders of MU's in Ireland to allow Ireland to focus on battles that need Irelands attention. The hardest part of this will have everyone following the same orders but I believe it is possible with some proper communication.
I feel this is the best possible direction that eIreland could take and maybe after some time and some social rejuvenation we can begin to look again at a fully nationalised state Army.

we should be working still for a single MU, its the one that makes the most sense with the newish updates by the admins...
but yes activity is not great and we are working on that...slowly

not a bad idea, but since it is the national MU the MoF can just get tanks prior to the war.
The MoF has a decent stash. We are prepared.
Great article OJ most of today's citizens won't understand the achievement of the IA. A body that United two military's that were total opposite in almost every way.
Speaking to you personally I know you've taken the drop in standard in the IA personally.
I back everything you said in this article & let the public know the Labour Party will be prioritising national military reform over the next few weeks & possibly months.

Sidenote: for anyone not aware of the ICA/Labour Parties modus operandi this is classic. In the first round they establish their own party and mu. second round they bring out a thousand articles about how everything is not up to standard and how their the second coming. in the third round they push a candidate for cp and loses.
in the last step they go apeshit and call everyone idiots for not following their advice(not voting for them)

With all intended fair criticism, you're not a great authority to talk about the Army's success to be honest, OJ. Still fresh in my memory when you claimed the Army had failed in its purpose, reformed the ICA and asked me to abandon the Army for the ICA - left me and Nephwork to it.
Despite history from that point giving waste to your perceptive as the Army came to grow greatly, innovation kept on with schemes which you're probably still in the dark about (not a snipe, you're been a backseat player, only came up with some burst of ICA activity) and literally dominate the military scene... I mean you don't get excused of promoting the Army to the detriment of smaller MUs if you're not actually a detriment of smaller MUs.
The Army was set up as an umbrella term - Integrating that into game mechanisms with the introduction of Military Units was/is certainly difficult - but in Irish military history, we're had three State military units before.
The problem with the Army at the moment is a lack of good Captains. The introduction of MU has led to greater diversity, and the culture of "ownership" over a MU. Majority of Commanders in Ireland lead units as large as a regiment in the Army. An umbrella approach for the Army is to have these MUs either being Regiment Captains of the Army or acting like Regiment Captains in own MUs.
The concept hasn't changed. Simply how its integrated. My suggestion of a National Commune system irrespective of MU membership, as long as orders are followed, is my idea of integrating the concept.. as its entirely up to the solider. Not leaving soldiers without supplies as they aren't part of an elite group.. sounds more like IDF and certainly doesn't benefit the State if soldiers are moving to private MUs over commune availability. That is dividing the Irish military, not uniting it.
But that's here nor there. With the admins recent announcement, a single strong MU is more prominent now more than ever.

While I support a national commune system as a concept, we seem no closer to establishing it politically. There was entrenched opposition to it on various grounds when it was proposed. The costs of expansion are normally prohibitive as well, and that's the route we would need to take in terms of how we'd go about restoring the Army. Our congress has shown repeated reluctance to invest when windfalls like rentals or competition gold come along.
The elite being supplied adequately is a lot closer to the original concept of the Irish Army than the IDF. The former was set up as a commune-based system where those who worked in the army would be supplied, and no one else. Overall, the emphasis was that we must have a professional army, one where every soldier's job is to work and fight for the military. The latter didn't base supplies on military competence, but political hegemony; if you weren't part of the clique, you didn't get shit. The IA supplied a lot more than just its commune membership in intervening years due to very good financial management in government, until last year when we lost the cash stockpiles. Given the work we put in to insure fair distribution of supplies to those actually involved in producing them, OJ's reaction of leaving the army back in the day is somewhat understandable.
We need some means of returning to a professional army. Resources and politics will dictate whether it is an expansion of infrastructure or a reduction in troops directly supplied in order to adequately supply a greater number vs badly supplying less.

I don't recall Nephwork hanging around all that long. I did truthfully leave you to look after the IA but the idea of the IA was to reunite IDF and the ICA yet none of the IDF crew came or helped out in the slightest with the IA. Why should the ICA hold the full workload required if the other half were not willing to help. We/I left out of bitterness if anything. We put in hours or work into the IA, as did you and others but we did it for the benefit of eIreland and to the detriment of our own MU which no one else did.
I'm not quite sure what you're getting at in most of that comment...but the lack of good captains has been a glaring problem in the IA from what I can gather for much of it's existence but I don't see the MoD or the commander trying to do anything about. Either he doesn't care or has too much work on his hand. Who knows. This is why smaller MU's with an obvious hierarchy of people would remove the need for "national Captains" and instead delegate it down to individuals who would like to make a name for themselves among party and other MU members.
The "Army" does nothing but hand out weapons for people who request them and set orders. It's the bare minimum and it's been like that since we left.

so excuse me Season if I haven't been up to date but it's quite hard when the commander of the IA refuses to even acknowledge a PM I sent to him.
OJ be carefull you are not looking at the game with 2011 eyes. Several things have changed. CO are a way the goverment can distribute money to players instead of guns. There is a huge lack of activity compared to years past across the whole game. Some older players can fight 300+ times a day just working in there companies, with out buying gold, there is no need to work in a comunne.

I dont think Ireland has enough active players to pull a bunch of special forces MUs through and keep them up for long, one must remember that really active players dont remain active forever (and should not, this game is really not worth it. I think MUs by division and with weps for them according to what is needed would be a better idea, but it is just my simple opinion.
