[GoW]Updates and News from the Guild

Big News from the Guild!

During the preceding week, eight citizens of the New World have joined me in a new enterprise called the Guild of Writers.

This brief article will be an update of our activities, an exciting announcement, and an invitation for you to consider joining us.

But first:
I made an unfortunate decision. I published the Guild of Writers announcement article during one of the peak media cycles. This made it somewhat difficult to get that article to stick in the top news feed, which may be why some of you are hearing about the Guild of Writers for the first time right now. If you want, please catch up on the previous article here.

Despite the lack of attention paid to that article, eight citizens responded to the invitation. Several of these citizens are respected and legendary publishers in eRepublik, several are citizens with a cache of experience in the game, and we even have a citizen who has never published a single article before. But our diversity extends beyond experience. We are from several different nations and we publish in a variety of styles. I think all nine of us have been pleasantly surprised by how quickly we have become a Guild of Writers with true promise to make an impact in the media module of eRepublik.

Activity Update:

RF Williams

A guild of writers is not much unless they write! So I’d like to focus on three of our writers and what they have been doing during their time in the guild.

First, GoW member RF Williams has recently (re)published a retrospective interview with his struthioniform-ego: Phoenix Quinn. The article is highly entertaining, and if you have played this game for a long enough to remember PQ, you will enjoy some of the memories his article evokes.

He also just published a more partisan re-election piece which details his fine work as SFPPP, or SFPRCC to use their vernacular. Even if you do not care about internal SFP politics, you should be reading everything RFW publishes, and I just recommend that everyone read as many articles ingame as possible to begin with, so go read both of RF’s. He even plugs the GoW, though he should be reminded to include the badge.

rainy sunday

Working with other people is a great joy. Not only does it stretch you in new directions, it also entices your mind to enter new arenas of thinking you might have never even considered.

Such has been my experience working with rainy sunday and the rest of the Guild of Writers as we attend to the task of rebranding her newspaper.

“But rainy doesn’t need a rebranded paper, her current iteration is awesome!”, says you.

“I know, right?”, says me.

But then again you probably said that about 16 Shells too. :eyewinkemoji:

No but really, this is a truly interesting project. Take an renowned citizen with an established paper who had already proven herself capable of doing spectacular work on her own, and try to develop a new brand! rs already has one of the most iconic avatars in the game, after all. It’s a daunting task for any group to attempt, let alone as a first project for a new group.

I am not going to spill all the beans on the direction this project has been taking, but I will risk a subtle tease, just to whet your whistle…

This may or may not be thematically related to rainy’s new paper…

From the GoW perspective, it’s been great to have a pool of creative people giving feedback on various ideas as we work toward a final look.

Now’s the best time for you to take a peek at Sunday’s newspaper (seewhatIdidthere?) currently, so that you will be able to appreciate the fine work of rebranding done by the Guild.

LoganBeary

This, my dear readers, is what we all look forward to, those of us who enjoy playing this game. It’s a legitimate newb! A real life human being who has only just recently begun to play this game for the first time ever.

More rare than the aurora borealis in Mexico!

More precious than a cup of coffee brewed freshly as the school bus disappears around the corner, kids aboard!

More promising than Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville!

It’s a new citizen embarking on a fledgling publishing career in the New World.

LoganBeary is about to have a newspaper.

editor’s note: The LoganBeary project is on temporary hold due to a RL family emergency. Take a moment to fill her inbox with thoughts, prayers, and/or whatever encouragement you think she might appreciate. Thanks.

With that somber news out of the way, let me share an image we have been working on in the guild. Again, this is not in its final form, but take a look at the line break we are working on for LoganBeary’s new newspaper…

This collaborative idea already looks beautiful, and I can’t wait to see how her newspaper feels once everything is in place.

We are still working on a name, a cover image, and some other design elements, and I know that LB has also been preparing her first article.

So why not subscribe to her paper now? It’ll save you a couple of clicks you’re sure to want to make in the future!

Stay tuned to the Top News for the glorious reveals of these and other future GoW projects.

I have one more piece of news regarding the GoW.

Although I applied for a grant from the Plato Foundation, I was informed that the Foundation is not issuing any grants at the current time.

However, I am going to do my damndest to make sure Plato sees every single article published by Guild writers, and if the material is as good as I think it’ll be, I won’t be surprised to see some Platonic Endorsements in our combined futures. Thar’s GOLD in them there quills!

An Announcement:
I have not mentioned this to the Guild yet, so this will be the first they’ve heard about it.

But, see, what I’m doing here is trying to make you feel like you’re already part of the guild in hopes that you’ll consider the value of formal membership… We’d love to have you… Now back to that announcement.

The Guild of Writers will begin working on a collaborative document called Best Practices for Publishing in eRepublik.

So, for instance, I remember, a looooong time ago, I’m talking about, like, a decade, reading a single tidbit of random advice in a Phoenix Quinn article, and it is something I think about every single time I publish. It will be the first item I will include in our Best Practices document. That advice? “White space is your friend.” It’s why I like to include two blank spaces before a line break, and three blank spaces after.

It is my hope that our Best Practices document will be a truly valuable contribution to the New World. Look for its publication at a future date!

Until then, my friends, do what I’m doing and...

Hoist That Rag.
