[GGRyan] Part One - A Working Government

Day 1,076, 12:22 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by GGRyan
In this article, we are going to present to you our first manifesto, bringing our wishes for the Government during the next month. I acknowledge mistakes in this article; last terms Cabinet was bloated and had too many roles. Some people say removing the MoComms was a mistake but I don't think that the way it was layed out, it was of any use. We also didnt have the manpower for it, but I'm sure we'll have the manpower for ten bazillion departments, as my opponent layed out in his first manifesto.

Some things, though, went very right; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for example, has come to the fore in recent weeks, arranging a major international summit, producing a comprehensive report and pushing on with merger talks. The Ministry of Finance has stayed under the watchful leadership of Thatcher to oversee economic progression and increased income.

We've also got plenty of people to London with our Fortress London campaign, and maintained a strong gifting department, providing health to people in need. We've began our profit operations, and our Ministry of Trade is strong and monitors fluctuations and provides reports to Cabinet every week.

Changes will be made, though, and I'm going to detail the role of each Ministry and the posts below.

Ministry of Finance - This Ministry is pivotal and has consistenly featured in Governments for months now. Nothing will change this month. It will keep track of our income, and make sure our finances stay right. It will also examine our tax systems and see to it that they are at optimum levels. We also need to ensure that our GBP levels and sales are right; with alot sold in the last month or so, we have to be wary of an economic dump incoming.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs - The problem that I have seen, and Ministers under me have seen, is keeping diplomats active and engaged. We set dates for reports and reports dont come in, which makes the role of the Minister even tougher. We're going to have to ensure everyone who we let in will stay active fully here, and set more varied and regular tasks for the diplomats so that they remained interested and working hard.

Ministry of Home Affairs - This Ministry will revert to being an entertainment and education Ministry; all about the community. It will run games and competitions and take hold of the Entertainments forum as myself and Maddog have in the last few days. It will also plan educational campaigns and write up material and articles on all the events it makes.

Ministry of Industry - This will be a merged version of the Ministries of Profit and Trade. It shall run our profit based operations, looking to make more money for the Government, and also monitor the markets and its fluctuations to give advice to itself and the Cabinet on what our industry needs.

Ministry of Communications - Before jamesw pops up to say that he told me so (😉), I need to elaborate more on the role. It shall be a mix of the MoHA and a Cabinet Secretary style role. It would ensure that all Cabinet reports and articles are written and will then communicate them to the public and House of Commons, and would organise the production of the campaigns layed out by the Ministry of Home Affairs. I'd like to take this away from Open Government which has been a failure and a way for the Ministry to neglect its roles, and blame it on a lack of support. This Ministry will be a key point in ensuring that Government communicates on all fronts and strive for as much transparency as possible, and will also feature out of game if and when we try and bring more attention to our eRepublik community.

I like to try and change things, or do something different to see if it works better. That's why, after consideration with people including past MoLA's, I am going to remove the role of Minister of Legislative Affairs. In its place, I will allow Members of Parliament to step forward to become Speaker. Cabinet shall wittle this list down to a shortlist of suitable candidates, which will then be voted on by Parliament. The Speaker will be in charge of keeping the legislative system moving and in order, and will also be the House of Commons liason with Cabinet; instead of having Congress moan en masse at myself, they can forward concerns to the Speaker who will have them addressed immediately.

Feel free to apply for any of these roles now by PM (to get most attention, do so on the eUK Forum. I'll also answer any questions there).

Merci eUK!
