[Diplomacy] Liberation Day - National Day of Bulgaria

Day 3,026, 13:34 Published in Sweden Bulgaria by yoro

Greeting! First I will use the occasion to present myself. I am the eBulgarian ambassador in eSweden since the last month. In this semi-historical article I will present to you, as stated in the title, the National Day of Bulgaria, 3rd March.
I. Background

In XIV century due to segregation between feudal rulers Bulgaria was split into three separate regions fighting each other. When Ottoman Turks began their conquest on Europe, neither of the Bulgarian tsardoms tried to unite with each other or the Byzantines, which led to the end of the Second Bulgarian Empire. Let me put one cliche phrase: "United we stand, divided we fall". Last of the three tsardoms was conquered in 1396.

In Ottoman Empire all Christians were considered inferior class of people, practically slaves. There were cultural and economical suppressions forced by violence and execution. Because of that there were many uprisings, but all of them failed and Bulgarians remained under Ottoman rule for almost 500 years.

In the late XVIII century happened the Bulgarian National Revival. It began with the influential writing "Slavonic-Bulgarian History" of Saint Paisius of Hilendar. Many revolutionary movements arised, some were peaceful and plead for fewer restrictions, while other were militant and fought under the motto "Freedom or Death". The latter were able to organize the April Uprising in 1876, which was put down with massacres. The event was followed by many reactions abroad and in the next year Russian Empire started the last Russo-Turkish War for the century.
II. Liberation Day

The Russo-Turkish War ended with the Treaty of San Stefano, which had a provision to set up an autonomous Bulgarian principality. It was signed on 19th February in the Julian calendar or 3rd March 1878. Since that day Bulgaria was again on the world map and Bulgarians were free from any cultural and economical suppressions and began writing their history again. Because of that, this day is chosen to be the National Day of Bulgaria.
III. Conclusion of the article

I hope my intervention in the eSwedish media won't cause any panic or destruction. Also, sorry that I publish it at the end of the day.
