COVID-19 Report
svs1109
With covid-19 in the headlines I will do what I can to get news out from my area. This is a real life, 1st person account of my experiences:
Location: Monterey-San Benito County, California, USA
03/17/20:
Yesterday the county that I work in (Monterey) and live in (San Benito) released "shelter-in-place" orders. No "non-essential" activities are allowed. Not quite sure how they are going to enforce this yet. I personally observed a 100 person deep line at the local Coscto @ 7:00am. Costco opens @ 9:00am. I heard from a co-worker that at my local Safeway grocery store there were two lines of 50+ people at both entrances of the store. My job is secure for now as I am in construction and we have been deemed as "essential" due to a large number of projects in low income housing. My wife's job is less secure. She is in vehicle rentals and they are still deemed "essential". Starting today her hours were basically cut to part time for an unknown amount of time. I am worried she will be laid off, but we have been saving and preparing well in advance for the last decade so for now I feel okay. My mother-in-law arrived yesterday via bus from Los Angeles. She said the bus station in downtown Los Angeles was pretty empty. The bus up was about 3/4 full. I went to a Lucky's supermarket yesterday for a few items yesterday and to observe. I was shocked. There were no eggs, milk, bleach, peanut butter, flour, toilet paper, rice, beans, canned goods, pasta, bread, or chicken. The meat department was 90% empty. Produce was about 20% empty but we live in a very agricultural area. We went to a local supermarket for milk and eggs but they were out as well. I heard from my sister in the Sacramento area that stores are stocked better than here. That doesn't surprise me as that is the state capitol.
I am going to keep my opinions to myself on what I think is going to happen because I honestly am not sure and don't want to spread fear in our nation. I am however going to continue to report on my local experiences. Feel free to comment below with your area and experiences there.
Thanks,

Stay armed. Good luck.
And if you're not. Don't let anybody know it.
Indeed.
I am a weapon.
When you live in Santa Barbara. Good news: it's a beautiful day. Better news: you're unexpectedly given time off from work! Bad news: you're told to stay home.

Oh wow! That's awesome!
I live in a rural area in Western New York and although there are no lines the store shelves around here are mostly empty because of people from Niagra Falls/Buffalo/Rochester coming here to binge shop.
It is getting crazy.

Wishing only the best for you and your wife: virus-free health and safety.
That's extended to everyone, by the way.
did 'mr propper' 'vanish' all the 'corona'?
Sadly I can only do so much
This won't turn out well, neither in Europe or US... Always nice to hear other perspectives than media btw.
I agree, hearing from real people about what's really going on, where they physically are, helps to remind this is not local. Everybody, on the planet, is going through the same.
In places I've never been & will probably never visit are still experiencing the same issues I am.
Usually the only time this happens is in war & it's just, oh the damn enemy "over there". is in a state of war too.
This is different, It's a very eye opening time in the world.

Similar outages here. TP for whatever reason was the first thing to go. Then sanitizer, Lysol. Did find Clorox wipes yesterday. We stocked up on groceries last Friday because we have a huge upright freezer. Not sure if it's just hype, or if supply chains are actually being affected. Time will tell.
TP takes up alot of room on store shelves. Stores don't normally carry very much so
a very small run can empty a store really quick.
For now, it's just panic. I know people who are in logistics & it's currently not a
physical supply or delivery of goods issue. Stores & trailers can only, physically hold so much.
I have spoke with people at all my local grocery stores & they are receiving the same shipments, with the same full trailers as usual but are just leaving most product on pallets because people are grabbing it before the can put it on the shelves.
In my area everything's 24h but now they all close overnight just to clean & restock properly for the next day.
If people see stocked shelves the don't seem to panic. Mid-afternoon the shelves start looking low & the pallets come out. That's when the hording purchases start.
I have 2 Walmart grocery, 2 walmart super centers & 6 regular grocery stores within a 15 min.drive & they all say the same thing. It's not a supply issue, it's just a panic purchase issue.
Many of the temp. closed businesses will be repurposed for needed production, if needed in the future. When this wave of panic buying subsides, there will not be any issues getting basic goods, in the US. My area has ~1M - 1.2M pop.
Looking like SOP for now. Actions may start being needed end of June beginning of July, if at all.
Supply chains will switch from nonessential goods(electronics) to essential goods(Groceries) as needed.
Automotive industry is stopping car mfg. & switching to medical equip. mfg. We are many months away from any real need to have concern for basic goods.
How much milk and eggs do these hoarders need? That stuff goes bad quickly anyway. It's pretty disgusting. You see people's selfish nature. My personal favorite is the water hoarding. The virus doesn't effect the water. So ignorant and dumb.
Oklahoma has been in, "soft" lockdown like Cali. started here on Monday(16).
State taxes must be filed on time but if you own, payment is not yet
required & no fees will be added for non payment if you owe.
Police will only respond to violent crimes.
Courts closed for at least next 30 days.
Utilities will not be disconnected & evictions from housing are not permitted.
I know people who work at Walmarts, they say they are getting all shipment in as usual &
receive standard amount of stock as usual. The issue is the panic raids that wipe them out everyday.
They were all 24h but now close every night to properly restock the shelves.
First death here today. Quick too.
A 50 year old tested positive, day before yesterday(17) died yesterday(1😎.
They are talking National Guard if needed & possibly converting local (closed) businesses
into temp. medical facilities if needed.
I call it "soft" lockdown because we can go out but there is nowhere to go & nothing to do.
I am from Oklahoma but my entire family still lives in OKC. We have had two people test positive in my county here in NY and we are now on a soft lockdown with schools closed till April 20. Stores open and food places are open but drive-through only.
Yea, same with the drive-thru here. Malls closed also.
My Grandmother was in a nursing home in OKC till last week when she had surgery.
She had back surgery & is now stuck in the ICU in OKC.
They were going to send her to rehab center but now worried about infection, especially with her recent surgery.
Can't send her to rehab center & can't send back to nursing home yet. I guess we'll see.
Found the guy that died here lived in Berryhill & worked for landscaping at ORU.
He was infected while here. He didn't leave the area or catch it somewhere else.
He caught it here.

Stay safe guys. Good time to rope every erepublikan that has left the game, with all the lockdown and everything XD
Good morning, stay at home, I'm in New York and things are getting a little bit crazy, people start a panic, I work in the Law Enforcement and like I said things are getting crazy. Regards and stay safe.

"Soft lockdown" in OKlahoma being changed to the official “Safer at Home” status by midnight March 25.
NOt too much different from last 10 day but it's a little more official now. Seems, they are also implying, that they are going to start enforcing it or upgrading it further, because today, ~3h after the Governor made this announcement, I was given a hall pass, a "Safe Passage" letter, to show my work is considered "Part of the essential critical infrastructure workforce" if I am stopped while out doing something.
