A Pledge for Peace

Ok my turn to chime in on the current vibes in eUSA culture...you've seen the articles from others. Some giving their take and some giving solutions. I am here to try and provide a solution.

I personally am a pessimist. But I am trying to be more optimistic when it comes to the state of culture in the eUSA. I'm trying to lead with love and not hate. I know....it sounds a bit stupid. I have had plenty of criticism for it as well. But let me tell you something...it works. I have had a lot of people tell me things or do things that have amazed me lately. I feel like we are on the cusp of pulling things together and ending the bitterness.

A wise and successful man I worked with in RL had a plain paper print out of a quote above his desk...it went: "Diplomacy is thinking twice before saying nothing". That quote has stuck with me through out my life, even if I haven't always practiced it. It is an interesting concept to think about. I think it would serve the community well to follow this platitude more. It doesn't mean we have to agree or even get along all the time...it just means we should TRY to be more civil and tolerant. I know it feels good to dig in the comments and tell your enemies off, but in the end...everyone in the community takes a hit for those actions. We are only as strong as our weakest link and we should do more to lift each other up instead of tear each other down.

Now here's what I'm asking for and it may sound kinda stupid, but I think its a good start:
pledge below in the comments that you are with the movement and will help.
Its as simple as that.
And remember...this is about YOU! No excuses that this person wont keep there word or that person is fake. This is not about others. This is about each of us on a personal level. We are only responsible for ourselves, so join me in taking some personal responsibility and making a change. Let's bring this community together and show the eWorld and each other what we are made of.

With regard to Pledges of Tolerance; Generally I remain tolerant of all; save the intolerant. Decorum must exist in order for dialog to be possible. Both John Rawls (A Theory of Justice) and Karl Popper (The Open Society and its Enemies) have written extensively regarding the subject.

In today's world intolerant can be very subjective unfortunately. However we view people or their ways we should try to treat them with decency.

That said, Decency and Decorum indeed go "hand in hand"

With regard to "in Today's World" much can, and indeed has, been said within Erep regarding the Mirroring of RL "happenstances" here in-game. Indeed, much of the "success" which Erep is based entirely on latent RL "Tribalism" being reflected by those who contribute within this online community.

Alas, and indeed alack, this type of behavioral reflection is not always appropriate, as can be seen in the shifting nature of the international alliances maintained across our eWorld. Hopefully the eUSA will be able to continue to keep this in mind that the "true" enemies are beyond our borders and not within them.

Certainly, many good fights are to be had between members of the eUS community; hopefully the result of which will always be a better understanding among neighbors and their proffered perspectives.

Intolerance, on the other hand, is usually quite "cut and dry" ; nearly always manifesting itself in an unwillingness to consider points of view expressed by others. The "reasons" (typically fallacious) inexorably vary though typically chief among them include "I dislike the messenger, and therefore the 'message' mustn't be worthy of consideration."

Hopefully, if anything is to be understood from recent events both in-game and RL is that the message should be considered, and the messenger ignored. After all, If Marvin the Martian is pleading for "good will among all men" there is no reason for an angry mob to uselessly bray "Kill the Martian"

Lately I've tried to do my in-game best to speak honestly, to apologize when I've been mistaken, to look for the good in folks, and to think seriously about and to seek out and to experiment with reasonable alternatives to "traditional" ways of doing things, and also to try to do my bit to improve on some of those "traditions" too.

Generally speaking, I find it's typically good for mental health to remind myself that "I" don't actually exist in this game world, that my "being" here, really, is centered on only 3 goals: having some fun, maybe spreading a little joy around, ...and killin' Natzis ( 🙂 love that movie!).

Also, it's healthy for me to remember that, as in RL, here I am not obliged to engage with toxic people. Silence and walking away are decent options. Humor is always a good option too when dealing with bullies, megalomaniacs and authoritarians.

I know that in RL, silence can also equal death. And that tolerance for intolerance is a fool's game. There is no win in letting my sisters and brothers be attacked and betrayed by their so-called "countrymen". As the famous slogan goes... "No justice, no peace."

Will I try to be more civil and tolerant? Sure thing, fella. You betcha, Red Ryder. But if ye think I'll stop lampooning bullying miscreant cumsplat dafty numpties, then yer bums oot the windae.
