I am not transphobic and I don't appreciate being called such. In RL I feel a great amount of sympathy for people who are transgender and struggle with their identity.
HOWEVER - In erepublik-fantasy land I think its a joke. This probelem doesnt exist in erepublik because you can be whatever fantasy you make up. Dominar is an ALIEN. I am a BOTTLE OF WATER. Mister Y is the AVATAR OF A Y. What are any of us? This is just supposed to be a fun fantasy game. You guys are disrespecting trans people in RL by bringing in a RL problem that is serious into a fantasy game where it doesn't exist.

A trans woman asked respectfully to be referred to using her preferred pronouns. In a game where, you are correct, we can choose to present ourselves however we like, it should seem reasonable that she could start presenting her character here as a woman.

Certain players then aggressively and purposefully when out of their way to address her in game, on discord, and on the forums incorrectly and went out of their way to insult her for making that request, throwing the information she shared about herself back as an attack.

I do not understand how you can possibly expect anyone to believe that those who belittled her are on the moral side of this issue. And saying those who defended her are "disrespectful" of the issue RL is beyond insulting and Orwellian doublespeak.

Ultimately, it's tiring.

it is tiring because anyone who disagrees with you is morally wrong - in this circumstance or others. We aren't even on opposite sides of the argument, more in-between somewhere , with clear division on some things. We should be able to disagree without calling each other morons and declaring war crimes on every little thing said or accusing each other of being transphobic or whatever.

Me: *Identifies as a horse person. Calls myself a horse. Constantly makes horse puns.*

Everyone else: *joins in and has fun*

Others: “I and my account now identify as the opposite gender than my character originally was”

“NO YOU CAN’T DO THIS. THIS IS ABSURD! I’M NOT CALLING YOU BY THAT NAME OR THOSE PRONOUNS. TRANS-PEOPLE ARE NOT ALLOWED IN MY FANTASY!”

To be honest as well, how do you know she was a trans woman? How do you know anyone is anyone on here? This is a fantasy game where I can be anyone. How do you know I am not in middle school? Or a supreme court justice? That's what I find ironic about this whole thing. Just to be clear though... now I have to decided to live my ingame life as a bottle.

I thought my reply was well considered and polite. I am taking seriously our earlier exchange and am trying to make my point without attacking you. As such I was not accusing you personally of anything.

I was, however, disagreeing vehemently with your assertion. How Aeriadne was treated was certainly transphobic and wrong. If she had come back with a new account, she would never have been mocked for asking to be referred to with those pronouns. She did not bring RL into the spat, others did who insisted on mocking her for her identity. And that is something I believe is wrong and toxic, and not something that I think should be tolerated in any community I want to play in.

And svs, it may not occur to you, but some of us communicate outside of this game.

I have no idea if you are in middle school or a supreme court justice. While I might not believe the latter claim, my policy is to believe people in general when they are telling you how they want to be treated. It's a kinder way to play I think.

to go with what derphoof said...if your avatar changes gender are you really trans? In the fantasy erepublik world if you are a woman character you are a woman character. Not a "trans" woman character. To me (and maybe I'm wrong) in RL you are "trans" because you are in the wrong body. In make believe you aren't "trans" because whatever body you say you are in is correct. Its fantasy.
It usually does not occur to me that people on this game talk outside of the game in RL so don't be offended by that.

She is not trans because she changed her name and presentation in game, but rather she changed her presentation in the game to match the fact that she began identifying as a woman in real life. It was transphobia because the people attacking her knew that she did so in real life, and used it against her in the game.

I think that's the last I have to contribute on this subject.
