Why the Flames are Only Getting Higher
Vyrin the First
I like the flurry of posting in the forum about political and bureaucratic issues. It's awesome. Insightful. Helpful in its own way.
I loved the new online radio program even though I can't participate because of the time. No one would want me there anyway! The organizers are the ones who have been the most vocal against my comments.
But as the flames in this country get higher, we must realize that it's because there is one particular type of player that has a stranglehold on the direction and imagination of this country.
These are the players who love the political intrigue, both the bureaucratic set up of a government and foreign policy. That's ok, don't get me wrong. If you enjoy that, great! The problem is we can't succeed with only that type of player.
For example, the only game mechanic mentioned in the first radio episode was the MPP process. Hmmm. Yet it was noted that we aren't negotiating from a position of strength. Why? We don't have the numbers. Another game mechanic that needs attention. But the ones who love the model government and foreign policy are never going to focus on it.
Why? It's not glamorous. More glamorous to dream of being CP. But it's usually the non-glamorous things that actually = WIN.
For example, we need more players whose particular skill is military leadership to organize our battles. Or those who love teaching noobs. Or those who love to try to squeeze something out of the pathetic business model. And if we had a good government, there would be support and focus on these as well.
Those of us who want to make contributions in these areas are told, "You're not helping!" In other words, helping with the way we want to play this game, the foreign policy and government part. We're told we don't know anything. Get an internship with us. In other words, learn and play the foreign policy and government game.
This country will still burn because as much as the politicians and foreign policy wanks want to pretend that's all that matters, eRepublik does have one redeeming feature. DID I JUST SAY THAT!
The redeeming feature is this: you have to focus on all the aspects of a country to actually succeed. A country with only politicians = FAIL. You need generals, teachers, business people and many other types besides.
The results are obvious. Foreign policy alone has brought us to the brink. We are surrounded by enemies and occupied. Results speak. It is so obvious. But blindness abounds.
This is where we are, the flames are getting higher. They will continue until we make room for a broader understanding of how to play this game and what it means to have a well-functioning society.
Until then: I've got the marshmallows. The smores are delicious. Tasty in fact.

"Why? It's not glamorous. More glamorous to dream of being CP. But it's usually the non-glamorous things that actually = WIN."
Dude CP is a one time event where it's BANG and people then forget who you are. It's getting in the game of the forum that leaves a mark on your opponent forever. We were made for this!
TH and TJ, blind is as blind does. You are stuck in the foreign policy mindset. TJ - "getting in the game of the forum" = NO RESULTS SO FAR. Why? Blindness to the other parts of the game. You really are that amazingly blind.
so you are saying foreign policy doesnt matter? id have to disagree since we are wiped and the only way to get out is via diplomacy
this term atleast foreign policy is important
Gosh you negotiate for us and you can't even understand what I'm saying? I'm saying foreign policy ALONE gets us nowhere and I never said it doesn't matter.
Really? Really? It's really that bad with you, huh?
I've said a lot of things in a few articles this week and most haven't been helpful really. It's cos I'm pissed off. U guys seem to invest so much time in tearing each other down instead of working together to actually solve this.
One problem is that a national consensus is so hard to come by. Some people love IRC but hate the forums, some people hate IRC but love the forum. Most ignore the media. IMO the only way an agreement can be reached is by a majority electing a CP.
This is bullshit too, but it's all we have here really.
In a normal situation the checks and balances opposition provides helps, but this isn't a normal situation. It's time to suck it up and accept that a united front in any direction is probably for the best for a bit. may I suggest the following direction.
1. Stop tearing each other down so much.
2. Take the deal with eChile. Consolidate, re-group. Take a breathe for a week or two and decide what u wanna do.
3. Accept the decision. Next CP elections you'll have your chance for a nation decision on direction. You'll have fight on forever CP candidates or take the hit & change direction CP canidates. Whomever wins support them, put your shit aside and be eAussies, united & focused.
4. Have fun. That's why we're here isn't it. Stop being so nasty to each other.
5. Get that flag back on the map. I miss u skip idiots😃
CC I already posted #1 of your suggestions in the forum. It was pretty much ignored.
I think people have a hard time accepting that eAus is really not doing well. Change requires accepting that there is a problem in the first place. Coming from the outside it's easy to see, whether a noob like me or a foreigner like you. For those wrapped up in it, don't count on it.
One suggestion for you, if you really care about eAus, work in eNZ to change their working against us.
Well, I'm complicated bro. I was eAussie before eNZ came along so I know most eAussie oldfags & love them. (It doesn't show sometimes cos they piss me off too).
My main frustration is that to me the problems are so clear but it's just the same things that have been happening since I started. But every now & again it gets too much for me & I have a comment fest lol.
I want my friends to do well but the fact remains that we're on different sides.
And also me getting involved would promote the problem. I'm a hasbeen. My day was glorious. (To me anyway). But my day is done. Took me a long time to do but the best thing I can do for eNZ is to move aside, completely. I am always here to help. Anyone. From any country or alliance. But I hope I will never have to be in a position of power again. It's how it should be. Young players need room to grow br😇
I literally cannot bring myself to read this guys articles. No joke, i physically can't force myself.
He spams 1 of these TL😉R's out per day, with basically 0 substance inside and lines like "we need to fight in resistance wars"
It's mind numbing. Would it kill you to use topic headers to break things up into sections?
Maybe you should read them DD, he does raise some valid points. While we may not agree with them all, they do contain some points that should be considered. Especially if your being serious regarding the game.
Vyrin, those who play the game are passionate about it. But introducing one's friends to this game is a bit like introducing them to Amway or a RL political party - you may alienate all of your friends in the process to get one new member. I prefer to play the game with people who really want to be here.
It is unfortunate that we have a small player base and frustrating, but that doesn't necessarily mean we need to capitulate and be absorbed into another country's geopolitics.
