Why invest in strength building grounds?
Darkmos
So you just started playing eRepublik and wonder what should my first steps? Well to be honest I asked myself the same thing when I started and got some mixed information on having a good start.
First, you have 2 options.
1- Speed things up and buy lots of gold using your credit card and max out everything.
2- Invest your gold wisely and build up slowly without breaking the bank.
Now before I explain this, there is one more thing you have to ask yourself. What kind of player do you want to be? You want to be a fearless soldier, a business tycoon or perhaps a media mogul? Whatever you want to be may influence how you are going to invest your gold.
If you are a massive gold buyer then no problem, whatever mistake you do you can always buy more gold to fix it. Strategy? Get a fully equipped credit card lol
If you are like most players and occasionally buy some gold and want to get the maximum return on your investment, then the answer is your training facilities upgrade. Your training grounds are the first thing you should be working on. This will provide you with long term income that you will be able to invest and over time attain self-sufficiency. Let me demonstrate why this is and how this game is all about being patient.
First thing is to wait for the -45% special on upgrade which comes around about once a month. The first 2 (weights room and climbing center) are the ones that need to be upgraded without any doubts. It will cost 93.5 gold to upgrade each of them for a total of 187 gold and of course that is including the -45% special, otherwise it will cost you 340 gold to upgrade. How is spending 187 gold is an investment?
Well, training each day with the upgrades with give you a super soldier medal (5 gold) every 7.86 days and you will gain 31.8 strength each day. If we look at it on a 30 days overview, you will make 13.38 gold and gain 954 strength a month. If you add your hard worker medal (5 gold) every 30 days that totals to 18.38 gold each and every 30 days. Over a year this will amount to 220.56 gold and 11 448 in strength. This gold can be invested in raw material which can be sold on the market for profit.
Why am I also talking about strength? That is because more strength equals more damage. More damage gives you an opportunity to win battle hero medals (more gold income) and it will lower the cost of damage per hits. See below for comparison between 3 players (all in division 1) and how much damage they do and the cost per million damage.
Here you can see the damage caused with Q7 weapons for each player and their cost per million damage for each of them.
So again if we look at long term the overall cost of damage lowers as you gain more strength. Those savings in cost can be put towards more companies and make more profit while causing more damage in battle and get more battle hero medals (again more gold).
Next article we will talk about your level and how it can undermine what you are trying to achieve.
I hope this can help understanding a little bit more on how to play smart and be patient.

Yup, yup, yup. You can't tell new players about this often enough.
It's probably hard for some to understand it until after the fact, but basically investing in upgrading the first 2 training grounds gives you an income of 5 gold per week from strength training medals indefinitely which will best allow you to develop whatever other interests you have in the game even if they aren't military.

Mmmmm....
Must mash fight button!
Need 100's of energy bars!!
nom, nom, nom...
Spend gold... Get lazy...
That's my typical day. lol
Seriously, first two TG's are key to doing anything in eRep. No matter what you end up doing those two provide maximum free gold income just for clicking train every day and provide a good amount of Strength. Always use free TG, but do not use 0.19 until fully upgraded to Q4 or you waste gold. Then you make decision how you want to play the game. Military types will continue to upgrade more TG's. Business types will take free gold supply and build companies.
One important point. I noticed the image of the TG's shows a Training Contract is being used. NEVER EVER NEVER use a Training Contract unless ALL FOUR TG's are at Q4 and then ONLY USE the 90% contract. Anything else wastes gold.
Also don't use the last two TG's unless they are BOTH fully upgrade to Q4 or you lose gold. In other words: Always use the free TG no matter what; Upgrade 0.19 TG to Q4 then use; Finally upgrade last two TG's to Q4 and then use all TG with 90% Contract for maximum Strength with minimum cost.

Thought about buying gold.
I buy lots of gold but do not encourage others. I would recommend that you play eRep AT LEAST 3 months before you buy ANY gold. If you decide the game is not for you then there is no regret. Combat Stash & Assault Pack are good way to buy gold for little money. They provide enough gold to help with upgrades as well as fun little party favors. If you find that you can't wait and are buying more and more gold, this is a bad sign. You don't want a compulsive behavior like that. NEVER BUY GOLD ON CREDIT!
If on the other hand you can spend responsibly and buying gold helps to make the game fun then I see no problem for a veteran player.
Best of luck!
Actually the 50% training contract is beneficial as well if you don't happen to have the 53 gold available for the 90% contract.
The 50% contract costs 25 gold and saves you ~43, net 18 saved
The 90% contract costs 53 and saves you ~77, net 24 saved
Assuming all TGs are Q4, it's still worth it to buy the 50% contract. Assuming you train every day, it will cost you:
1) At 50% off: 25g (cost of contract) + 1.435 (cost of training per day) * 30 = 68.05 gold spent every 30 days
2) At 90% off: 53g + 0.287 * 30 = 61.61 gold spent every 30 days
3) With no discount: 2.87 * 30 = 86.1g spent every 30 days
You earn 91.8 strength per day on average (90 from training + average daily reward is 1.😎. This translates to total strength of 2754 gained every 30 days which'll earn you 11 super soldier medals and thus 55 gold. Combine that with the hard worker reward of 5g every 30 days of working, the actual cost to your bank account with the 90% training contract is 1.61 gold every 30 days. The 50% contract will only set you back 8.05 gold.
In conclusion, the 90% contract is better but you still accrue significant savings with the 50% contract.
Using this handy calculator
http://tools.narrenturm.eu/trainingCalculator.php
all 4 TG's at Q4:
No contract costs 1.034 g per day/31.02 g per month;
50% contract costs 0.432 g per day/12.97 g per month;
90% contract costs 0.218 g per day/6.53 g per month;
this is after considering the Super Soldier gold but not considering the cost of food. 50% contract does save 18.05 g but the 90% gets your cost down a lot more, 6.44 g more. To me that is substantial.
If you use the first two TG's with no contract your income will be 0.446 per day or 13.38 per (30 day) month. This is the option for someone not buying gold that would like a steady income.

Yarr, invest ye booty in t' training centers fer more firepowa!
I think adding your hard worker gold into the equation makes things better than they seem. We still have to buy food and weapons and pay for moving costs unless you get into an MU commune that offers these or get a good enough paying job to cover the daily expenses.
And in my opinion, everyone should try and become self sufficient in at least food so that requires gold to buy the companies and pay the taxes. But that is just me.

Excellent article !
There is no way in hell I will ever buy gold for this game. 🙂
I'm with you 100%.
I'm sitting on a pretty tidy fortune and haven't spent a dime on this game. Buying gold makes you lazy. If you play smart you can get lots of CC/Gold, and it won't cost you anything in RL.
(Just to be clear, my "tidy fortune" currently sits at 613 Gold and 185,869CC and I have NEVER bought gold.)
I used to make a solid killing working currency trading back when we had national currencies... Now I have no clue how to amass fortunes like yours.. lol
The only time my lazy gene has helped me out is with gold buying in this game. I've often considered it and then procrastinated on pressing the button... only to have admin change things and me being thankful I didn't have to deal with buyers remorse.
I once was good at this game (back when there was an economy), now I suck. I have 1/10 what you have Muglack and for no good reason. I just don't see the opportunities anymore, lol.
I am glad to hear of what you have accomplished and that is the point I am trying to make. If we ever hope of having a baby boom and make it last then we need to to try and explain the reality of this game.
Be patient and play smart or use credit card and buy gold.
Thanks for your comment!
I mostly got lucky. Back when gold was 2200CC I dumped everything I got into WRM buildings. Fought with my hands a lot to save on tans when my damage didn't matter, and generally saved money every way possible.
Good stuf 😁
