The Kyushu Incident

Day 754, 05:58 Published in Japan United Kingdom by AltmerVampire

So here in this article I have decided to let the world know of how I have seen the current incident unfold in Japan. Make sure to note, this is my interpretation of events, and although I have not been involved in every step and decision, I have seen a good lot more about the event than a fair few other people, even in our Congress. This article will attempt to be unbiased, and give a fair viewpoint to all parties involved. And just for the fun of it, we shall include the beginnings, the current happenings, and what may lie in storefor our islands. Also, for background information we will include the US’ plans which were given to Japanese congress and the battle itself.

American War Plans

Before we start with the actual Incident’s history so far, we’ll mention what the Americans fully intended to do to achieve their goals of a liberated China, and from my guessing, a loaned High Iron region. Gaius Julius made clear that this battle plan was not Jewitt’s doing, rather Jewitt was just a button presser, who had no real say in the plan until the night of the election. Not a good start to a Presidential month but we’ll say no more about it…

The basic US plan would be to declare war on Japan, invade us and be out of Kyushu and into China as soon as they physically could.. After that they intended to region swap as fast as they could (China had an agreement with the USA to region swap, in an effort to regain their full independence from the Phoenix countries) to Liaoning and conquer it (taking away Iran’s High Iron region), then Jilin, then Heilongjiang(or what we also know as HelloKitty, Hungary’s High Iron Region).

After that, the Americans would then region swap down to take out Indonesia's colonies in China and RW every region back to China except HelloKitty. From there they can begin moving through India to free their regions and Karnataka (I should note at this point, despite bad reputations the Indonesians do intend to give back Indian regions, the two nations do have an agreement).

USA obviously wants to keep High Iron for themselves, but they and China have agreed to a large sum for leasing HelloKitty while it seems likely Liaoning will be returned to the Chinese to do what they will with it.

The reason they want to go through Japan, rather than the much more direct route of Russia, is of course, the fact they don’t want to activate MPPs, attack a basically impregnable region and trigger a Russian babyboom. All of which, are immensely bad things for USA. As it is, they attack a weak, neutral nation.

The Beginnings of the Kyushu Incident

A week into Dokomo’s first Presidential term, Japan became aware of potential plans for the US to use Kyushu in an effort to blast their way into Asia, and “liberate” it from the countries that now make up Phoenix. This of course referred to Hungary, Iran, Indonesia and Russia (which had recently attacked China, admittedly they formed a peace treaty not long after). All those countries had hurt either China or India, and the USA supposedly wanted to alleviate their suffering, while undoubtedly wanting to humiliate PEACE/Phoenix countries.

So they ask Dokomo if they can use Kyushu to attack Indonesian held territories in China. Dokomo says he agrees with this personally, however if Congress are against it he will not press the retreat button, so he brings the issue to Congress who discuss it, and seem to firmly say no. So Dokomo brings this message to USA and all is fine and dandy for a little while.

The CP elections come, Dokomo is re-elected in an expected landslide and over in the USA, Jewitt is elected with promises to invade another little country. So very shortly after, on the 7th December, Jewitt makes a massive mistake; he begins a vote to declare war on Japan. Why was this a massive mistake? Because he did it at an immensely stupid time. A time in fact, that suits America’s enemies and inconveniences the Americans themselves. So soon after this, Hungary and Serbia send over MPP proposals, meaning the US will have to attack almost immediately after the war declaration to avoid having to fight these two countries too. Bringing us back to why Jewitt was an idiot to open the war so soon. (Of course, Jewitt is an immensely nice guy, just made a massive mistake =3 ).

Japan gets very fired up and war preparations begin. Countries from around the world move to either Russia or Japan to help, and once all possible preparations are taken, we wait until the inevitable battle for Kyushu begin. In the meantime however, many people were unsure of where President Dokomo’s true loyalties lay; with many people accusing him of planning to press the retreat button. Personally, I never thought it was likely due to the fact I was convinced the USA would steam roll the battle and there would be no actual need to retreat anyway.

The Battle of Kyushu

The next day the US congress officially had finished their vote to declare war, and it was accepted with an amazing majority. War had broken out between USA and Japan, on the anniversary of Pearl Harbour nonetheless.

It was now, that Phoenix’s battle plans had come forward. Their initial plans to ask Japan to region swap with North Korea, in an effort to stall time had failed, so their contingency plan was put in place. The United Kingdom, led by one of Phoenix’s Deputy Secretary Generals pressed the button against the US and attacked. This was to block the US, making them unable to attack Japan, in an effort to stall for time to allow the Hungarian MPP to go through. As fast as Woldy attacked, Jewitt retreated, resulting in the UK taking quite a few American regions, much to the disgust of the US population (who noticed) and Necrosis, who lost a wood company in the process.

However, the US was not to be put off and invaded the Japan, and Kyushu, with only Japan, Malaysia and Russia defending the country (directly). The battle had begun, and raged for quite a while. It was never very clear who was going to win. I knew for a fact Phoenix had every intention of making sure we did not lose. And I knew that the USA and its allies are a force to be reckoned with. Both sides had a chance of success, and it would be immensely close in the end. There were contingency plans made if USA won but I shan’t go into them.

The battle raged all day, and night, with both sides continually winning control. When it came to the end of the battle, it seemed likely Phoenix’s forces would end up victorious. With around 500k on the wall, #ejapan was filled with congratulations in the last few minutes. Before, out of the blue, the wall starts to drop. Dramatically. It continued well over the 24 hours it was supposed to, with both sides hitting hard to bring the wall to their side’s favour. A few minutes later, we see the announcement from the admin. Kyushu has been secured by Japan in the war versus the USA.

The odds I had given of us winning were around 3/10, therefore I did not have high hopes and fully expected to have to use the contingency plan we had in store. But, Phoenix defended us like hell, making it one of the biggest battles that has happened so far, and Dokomo did not press the retreat button. World War 4 was put off for a little while longer.

The Present Situation

So here we are at the current disaster, which may or may not happen, no one is particularly sure to be honest. It was either later that night, or the next day when Dokomo PMs me on the IRC, telling me about how he has heard plans of a Phoenix invasion/PTO by multis of Japan’s long term ally, China. This information has been brought to him by long term Japanese citizen, Nolan Pitler, an influential citizen, who received the information from his contacts in EDEN. So Dokomo tasks Nolan and I to find out as much as we can about the situation.

After speaking to three Phoenix officials, I reach the conclusion that Phoenix does indeed have no intention of harming China. Despite China having given orders to fight for the USA against Japan (despite the MPP) the Japanese population in general felt no ill will towards them, and therefore wanted to protect them against any potential threat. Likewise, there is no real need to invade China. Phoenix already has their important regions, and conquering the rest of the nation would only be a waste of money, time and reputation.

I began speaking to Nolan, and we shared our information. Apparently Phoenix would be attacking within half an hour, so I reported my findings to Dokomo, and we then waited for what would be. As it turned out, nothing. However, Aliao, the Chinese President had drawn our attention to the huge number of Chinese new citizens, which seemed likely to be multis largely due to China’s RL status.

Not too long after this, I was contacted by Phoenix’s diplomat to Asia, Arthk, about his conversation with Dokomo, and how Dokomo had threatened to make Phoenix pay if they touched Asia. The matter was brought to Japan’s Discrete Matters forum, and the possible solution of letting the Americans through Kyushu by Dokomo retreating was made into a very real solution. Part of congress was furious about this, the other part accepted Dokomo’s judgement in the matter. Japan became intensely split.

Several members of Congress and the Cabinet met up in an IRC room, and debated the issue for several hours. Tempers were frayed, and two main camps seemed to become clear. In general terms, Dokomo and Vorph’s supporters, mainly in Godzilla against Faeyas, no1kevlin, mine and Sophia Forrester’s supporters, largely in TFC, SOS and ULJ. However, members of all parties had varying viewpoints, and not one party was entirely undivided.

Impeachments were threatened, people were told to calm down and sit patiently for something to actually happen, and generally, confusion and fighting broke out through Japan. No one knew fully what would happen, Japan’s media was bombarded with newspapers which told them to do one thing or the other. Some crappy propaganda was sent too, most of which was discarded. Regardless, you get the picture.

What happened next? Dokomo released an article with his intentions to retreat Kyushu to the Americans if Phoenix did not play ball, and liberate all of China except HelloKitty. Congress then decided to have a vote whether to give approval to this action, before having another vote, and then another vote to propose impeachment, and before that vote was over, impeachment was actually proposed, and unsurprisingly, rejected.

Negotiations ran fierce, and Dokomo lowered his chance of pressing retreat to 70% from his original belief of 90%, which was pretty nice of him, due to how well negotiations were going with Phoenix. Time shall tell what happens now I guess. Actually, we have until the end of today to find out what happens, so is the nature of the deadline Dokomo set.

What could happen to Japan?

So here we are, we’ve reached blind speculation as to the future of our isles. In this section I’ll outline what I think the possible outcomes of this event are. Most of what I suggest is immensely unlikely, admittedly.

1) Phoenix agrees to the demands.
Phoenix, fearing for an entirety of a loss, agree to Dokomo’s demands and give up all their Asian regions except Hungary’s High Iron region of HelloKitty. This would be a major propaganda victory for the US, and if Phoenix twisted it appropriately, for themselves too. Making themselves throw off the imperialistic chains of old PEACE. Although Hungary and Indonesia seem willing to give back Chinese territories, with the Indonesians expressing interest in doing so before the current crisis, it seems unlikely, if not impossible Iran will give up their High Iron region.
Likelihoo😛 3/10

2) Phoenix rejects the demands, and Dokomo presses the retreat button.
As mentioned before, Iran seem unwilling to negotiate with this. Personally, I’d think it was wise to do so since Iran are not a match for the United States of America on the battlefield. Better to have a High Iron region with their allies than a massive, costly war which may very well result in no High Iron regions at all.
Likelihoo😛 7/10

2a) Phoenix revenge attacks Japan, wiping if off the map.
Some people have raised concerns over this, especially since we will be forced to ally with USA at the end of the day, to keep us safe from foreign invasion. Indeed, if I am correct this whole incident will result in us losing our so called neutrality. The plan seems unlikely, as revenge attacks cost nothing.
Likelihoo😛 Less than 1/10

All in all, we’re about to see interesting times ahead of us in Japan. We will survive, there is no doubt of that. We have far too many good citizens to lose our Righteous Nation. So let’s keep our fingers crossed as to what happens in the next few days, eh?
