The Fall of the American Democracy?

09 Feburary 2016 The United States of America once known as the Saviour of Democracy has undergone radical changes during its long history, from the World Wars waged overseas to local conflicts that tore the country asunder. Some of the most radical changes come from elections that were unfairly biased towards one specific party. To cite an example the Election of 1936 was biased towards the Democratic Party with the incumbent, Franklin D. Roosevelt winning and unprecedented landslide with 523 electoral votes or 46 of the then 48 states voting for Roosevelt. To cite another example the 1984 election in which Ronald Regan, The incumbent and Republican candidate won a 525 electoral vote victory against former Vice President Walter Mondale who procured only 13 electors to his good name. Those examples were honest victories under a flawed and old system. There however was one horribly flawed victory, whose results had lead to the only resignation of an American President in our great countries history. This election was the 1972 Presidential Election where Richard Nixon won an unbelievable Victory so much so that it was investigated and it was determined that the Committee to re-elect the President(CREEP) had committed electoral fraud to win Nixon his reelection.

Now, many argue that this is just a problem with two party systems or the American election process, however I argue that the foundation of the modern elections is flawed and has lead to interesting elections, the process referred to as the first past the post system, is horribly overflawed and appeals to winning a popularity contest rather than voting for the candidate they truly support.

I argue that thus the electoral system be reformed to an alternative vote system. To briefly explain it, the system uses a numerical order of your favorite 3 candidates to easily come up with alternatives that you can somewhat agree with, instead of incompetent fools who get elected because they have the clout and money to win the election. Thus, I argue that the constitution be amended to allow elections to use the alternative vote so that we get no Bush v Gore Florida problems again.
