The Changing Face Of The World

The world changes on a daily basis. A new person is born, a relationship is created or destroyed, or nations can begin or end wars. eRepublik is far from different to the real world in this respect. However, there is a vital difference between the real world and the e-world – the real world doesn’t repeat itself in quite a noticeable way as this “New World”.

Having played this game on and off for a year and a half now, I have seen empires rise and I have seen empires fall. I have seen people rise to extreme positions of power, and then gone on to see them being humiliated and crushed to the dust the very next day. Then the next one will come along; the next empire, the next hero, only to rinse and repeat.

One of the clearest examples of this is clearly the super-alliances. As Avec has pointed out here ( http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/the-impending-collapse-of-eden-empire-1571635/1/20 ), EDEN may very well be on its way to its deathbed. What I couldn’t help but noticing from his article, however, was the startling resemblances EDEN’s attitude has to Atlantis’, shortly before that collapsed. There is little doubt in a fair amount of the older generation that eventually EDEN and Phoenix will both collapse, only to be replaced by a new alliance with perhaps a few very minor changes. To me, it is merely a matter of time. Even the name ‘Phoenix’ (a bird that rises from the ashes) suggests that this alliance is just PEACE Mk II. EDEN is of course, just Atlantis Mk II. And there will eventually be a PEACE Mk III and an Atlantis Mk III (provided everyone doesn’t quit and/or the admins don’t just blow up the database).

Now while this happens on a world scale, it would be silly to assume that is where it ends. Down to the individual countries, with their politics, the cycle is always there. Take the UK for example, whether you look at the House of Lords debate ( explained partially here, if you wish to read up on it http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/House_of_Lords ), or the rise of the UKRP and its fall, or the rise of TUP or even arguably the rise of the smaller parties such as BDP or BEP. The pattern is always there and always will be.

Is this necessarily a bad thing? Personally, I don’t think it is. There is a cycle, yes, but things can remain interesting in the development of the situation, and how the new generation of leaders actually react to the problems they face. eRepublik is constantly changing and updating, just in a circular fashion.

People, however, do need to try and take a grasp of the event and twist it to the advantage of themselves/their country. At the moment, there appears to be a fear of breaking the status quo. Similarly, there is a tremendous amount of complacency, with the exodus of so many people after the recent changes, fewer and fewer people are actively trying any more, leaving the country in the hands of a select few, and then complaining bitterly about how “horrible” the government is and how self-serving it is. If you have a problem with the way something is run, you need to take a step forward, out of your comfort zone and speak up for what is right, for what you believe in.

That, and that alone, is your only chance of success. To unite and conquer is the way forward in this game. Alliances and relationships will be put to the strain in this game at times. Those who keep fighting and struggle on against all adversity are the winners.

So today, stand up for what you believe in. Fight for democracy, fight for victory in war, fight for making your business a success, fight for your friends. If you don’t, you never will.
