Day 1,675, 19:29 Published in Greece Greece by megas nikolaos

On day 1,654, I contacted by the player dmgctrl. An american player who happened to be fighting in the same battle as I. I cannot recollect who was fighting who, or even for which region. I was placed in the Battle Hero (BH) position, and had fought quite a few fights to get there. He tanked past me, and we were still behind. Another sniper at work I thought.

So I PMed him. If we were going to lose anyway, he could have at least let me have the medal, he has plenty of them.

He sent me this :

“Its not personal, plus the wall has flipped, and we will probably win. But I am sorry that you didnt earn a BH, and as a token of good faith, I will reimburse you for what you might have won”

Sure enough, the battle was won, and he did win the medal, and sent me the gold he won there. I may have misjudged the player and wanted to say as much. So I replied to him :

“Your intentions proved good..i might have misjudged..thanks for your understanding and kindness.. have a nice day..”

I guess he has been down this road before, and replied to let me know that he appreciated my being cool about it.
I liked that he acknowledged this, so I sent him another reply:

“Here in greece we have something rare, that noone else in the world has..and its hard to understand..As a word has no translation in other languages. its called φιλοτιμο (filotimo)..it seems we found someone in the world with that feature...”

Well, our conversation continued and he told me that his parents were currently living in Greece, near, he said, Momemvasia. Not far from my home town! So I asked if he ever visited and invited him to share some wine with me next time he was here. (He seemed pretty excited about drinking the wine XD). Next he tells me that his parents were in Velies, not 5 minutes from where I am from. The whole thing was quite unbelievable by now, and he relayed the story to his father, who told him that he knew my village well, and frequents a restaurant there. A restaurant? My family owns a restaurant...

He sent me his fathers reply :

“If I can find out who it is I will have that glass of wine with him there....”

A few weeks passed and I got a phone call one day from my mother....

She asked me if I remembered the Irishman from Velies, and that he was in the restaurant claiming that his son knows you from the internet? I had to interrupt and explain the story to her. She was amazed as I was, saying “What a small world!”.

Well with continued conversation with dmgctrl, he told me that he now lives in Arizona, USA. So a guy in America, sent me a photograph of MY mother with HIS father in my family restaurant, in a rural part of Greece. Heres the photo :

My jaw dropped when I looked at it. I HAVE MET HIS FATHER BEFORE!

Moral of the story? Be respectful, because you just never know who you are talking to, or how they may become, or already be a part of your life. Once day dmgctrl and I will drink wine together, overlooking the Aegean Sea, and talk about life, erep, and the coincidence which brought us to be there...

Play with respect for each other, because you never know...
