Onism

people will tell you your entire life to get out and do things
most of us never will, some few of us will experience thousands of times what the average person does
and the majority of us will make a few small road trips in our life if we're lucky
why don't we experience more?
for most people the answer is simple. we can't afford to. We spend our lives as slaves to corporations with nothing to show for it. For some people they're willing to forsake everything for an adventure, and I consider myself among those people.

I realized from an early age just how little I would ever experience of this world. Now there's a word for this feeling and that word is Onism. Having felt this I dedicated myself to experiencing as much as I can.

In my experience you can get surprisingly far on the kindness of strangers. With only my feet and my thumb I've managed to cross the country with no money twice. While hitchhiking may not be dead it definitely is a lot more dangerous than it used to be I think. My suggestion to people is if you want to travel you'll find gas is surprisingly cheap, just sleep in your car because a motel will eat you alive in costs. Bring your own food if you can, preferably nothing you need to heat and that doesn't expire. If you have the money for an MRE you can have a waterproof hot meal on the go. If you must sleep outside do so out of view and under some moderate level of protection. Bring lots of dry socks you'll need them. Don't forget water. If you're walking keep it to a minimum or you'll kill your back and just avoid deserts, if you're in a car, load up the trunk full of it.
