Issue #1: 10 Questions for US Workers Party President

Day 2,505, 08:48 Published in USA USA by Mike Milton

Hello my name is Mike Milton, author of this new brand newspaper eUSA Daily News. In this paper we will be going over different areas of eRepublik from the political, the combat and even financial information but most of the time we will be interviewing important people (Political, Army, etc.) in our country or others. Now in this issue I've had the pleasure of speaking to Kortanul, President of US Workers Party, and being able to ask him 10 questions.

Hi Kortanul, tell about yourself?

Well, Mike, I don't have a lot to say, there's nothing special about me. I've been playing for a few months shy of two years and I enjoy helping people out, but I think most people do.

What led up to becoming the party president?

I've been part of USWP for a while and I was in congress many months prior to my PP run, which was prompted by my friend SColbert nudging me to go for it. The intention was, from the start, to get new people involved and work to make sure we're not excluding anyone.

If you hadn't become a party president, what might you have done?

I probably would've looked to start up something for the party still, as I just wanted to do some work. As PP it's expected of me, though, so I've been prodded along to keep me from slacking off as I likely would have without being PP.

Before you became party president did you have any other positions? What were those positions? Tell me about your experiences.

I've done a few jobs here and there. I helped with messaging when I was new to the party, served a good few months in congress, played at being VPP under SColbert, I was Speaker of the House for a month, helped out in the Department of Education for a little while but dropped out to work in the party more--national jobs just don't appeal to me as much. My other experience is all from EZC, as I was a captain a few times, handled communications within the MU, a few other things.

Tell me about your party and your cabinet.

USWP is absolutely wonderful as a party. They're supportive, very successful, there's always someone with plenty of experience and knowledge ready to help out either as a subordinate or just telling me to get back to work. I picked my cabinet because they're people I know and that I can trust to work hard. Delyruin has long remained dedicated to the party and involved in *something*, and this only continued with his work as our director of communications. SColbert has been a friend and hard working member of USWP since before my time, and as embarrassing as it probably should be to say, he's often had to do the talking for me as I'm not particularly sociable. While serving as my VPP, he's also been filling the role of Speaker in congress and running the Department of Media for the administration, so he's been keeping rather busy. Malpazar's a fairly recent addition to the team, writing for the party while also dealing with school RL, even coming through when tasked with writing an article from scratch on a busy day with no forward notice.

As the party president what are your goals? And what do you hope to achieve in Congress under the banner of United States Workers Party?

My goal remains as it was when I first ran a month and a half ago, when I decided I didn't want to take up a seat in Congress when we have others with potential. I wanted to make sure to have openings for any new players with some initiative to get involved and move on up the chain. If we're to carry on our legacy, we need to raise new leaders from the ground up. Finding these fresh faces to work with is more difficult than it sounds, by the way, so I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to please speak up and talk to their party leadership or at least just do *something*. Everyone can help out and contribute, whether they realize it or not, so the door remains open.

If you don’t mind, talk about your RL a little.

I guess there's no shame in being average, right? RL I work for Burger King, and before that for McDonald's, totaling to 2.5 years at both. I'm looking for work at a proper restaurant so I can make quality food for people that actually want to please customers who actually care about what food tastes like rather than just make a sandwich in under 30 seconds (I can bust out a whopper in 23 seconds, AND evenly distribute the pickles and onions!). I spend on average $140 a month on games including eRep, and wind up eating a lot of cereal, PB&J, cold ham and cheddar, and omelettes because they're cheap, easy, and satisfying. Amusingly, in my off-time, I don't actually even play my games. Instead I've been working on remodeling my dad's house and today we're finishing the trim in a room we completely rebuilt after tearing it down to the studs.

How did you get into erepublik?

I joined eRep after watching Talostastic talk about it for months on Kongregate, and eventually I got curious enough to sign up through him. I'm not gonna lie, at first I planned to play for maybe a week, level up, get some medals, and leave. Instead I found out that I quite enjoy this game and the very diverse community, and so here I still am.

How did you come up with your nickname? What’s that mean?

I pulled the name Kortanul from Starcraft lore. He's the opposite of Adun, having been the leader of the Conclave when the rogues who would become the dark templar severed from Khala. Kortanul pushed for them to be killed, and when Adun instead helped them, and even saw them off when they were exiled, Kortanul tried to kill Adun, which sparked a battle between the rogues and the conclave, and led to Adun burning himself out psionically to protect them.

Do you have anything to say to our readers?

If anyone has any special skills or even just some interest in helping, even if someone really wants to help their party or MU but thinks they have nothing to offer, step up and get involved. I guarantee you'll be surprised by how readily you can climb the ladder if you stop keeping to yourself. Just do something, go talk to someone.

Thank you so much for the interview Kortanul, and thank you all for reading and I hope to see you in the next issue of eUSA Daily News.
