how running for Congress works...

Day 369, 02:14 Published in USA USA by scrabman

Well, here it is. The next congressional election is upon us and now I'm at Level 14 and fully eligible with the backing of the USWP as my party. The tricky thing about this new election is that it is going to be the first time that eRep has done Congress along state divisions meaning that there will be 11 new positions (where there were 40 previously) and the citizens of those states will have to put local candidates into office rather than choosing from a national candidates list (assuming that the election software got implemented correctly).

The results of the elections should be interesting. In many states like mine (WV) there are very few active players who are eligible to vote. This will make the elections of their candidates interesting to say the least. In fact, there are many states who still don't have candidates listed. I don't know if that is simply because the USWP has been actively listing their candidates while the other parties are waiting or what. Maybe it's another glitch. But in a state with only a dozen active and eligible players I wonder what happens if everyone votes for themselves and others don't vote at all?

I like this change to the election system because it just makes more sense. Local candidates can contact the citizens of their state by checking the ranking system and isolating it down to their region of the eUSA. This makes the effort of soliciting votes far easier than previously and largely eliminates the prior problem of everyone voting for the same candidate in a national election. Thus it forces the voting to be spread out. Still, there may be problems, such as if there happen to be states with no active players at all. I'm sure that the various parties will be ready for this after it's first implementation in a few days.

An interesting note here is that the admins have opened the Congressional elections up to minor parties for the first time this time. It used to be that only the top 5 parties could submit candidates for Congress but it now seems as if the smaller parties (i.e. Green Party, Anarchists Party, etc.) can submit candidates. I wonder how this will change the composition of Congress and I wonder if the admins will open up the Presidential elections in the same manner at the end of the month?

In any event. I'm running and hopefully I'll be elected this time. Last time I became ineligible the day before the election when the admins changed the formula for calculating experience points. Ugh. I've been very active in eRep and many of you who read this will recognize that. I've been posting to the eUSA forums as well as being active in the USWP as the party Legal Director. I think that I would be a good choice and I have also just started my first company which I'll talk about in a future article as I try to figure out how this stuff all works. Until then, thanks for reading!

P.S. That guy (who I call a Superdelegate) is not me.

Also, for those looking for more information or to see who your local USWP candidate is check out our forums. You can also check to see who is running for your state by going to your party page and choosing the option to "see proposed congressmen".
