Gunpowder Treason

Remember Remember
The 5th of November,
The gunpowder treason and plot,
I see no reason
The gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot

This election has used this rhyme a lot, and understandably since Election Day is on November 5th. The problem is, no one knows what they are saying. They've probably heard it in movies. "V for Vendetta" to be precise. But what are the origins?

Guy Fawkes (The Mask in V for Vendetta is his) and his conspirators were very unhappy with the oppressive king. In order to free their people from him they devised a plot to blow up Parliament on an important date. This plot that was years in the making failed because Guy Fawkes was seen coming out of the room full of gunpowder that was hidden under the parliament building.

Since then, the oppressors have celebrated "Guy Fawkes day" and "Guy Fawkes Night" every November 5th, to remind the civilians that its futile to try to overthrow the government.

"Remember, Remember" They want to remind you that if you every try to regain power by yourselves, that you will just be thwarted. They want to remind you annually that they are more powerful and that you shouldn't bother... However, I believe there are ways around it, and I'd like to see them explored.

How will we remember this 5th of November?
As the day we voted for Change, or the Day we voted for more of the same?
