Getting Yourself Heard

Recently, I decided to try something out. It wasn't dangerous, it wasn't evil, it wasn't even supremely good, it was just something a little abnormal. Wait for it, I contacted a congressman*gasp!*

This congressman happened to be none other than Trekker Tlumac of the Feds. I came to him with an idea, one I thought might help citizens like me be heard a bit more. We worked on it for a while, and he was very helpful. It was revised, went through all the proper protocol, and was finally posted on the congressional debate forums. To say the least, it wasn't a huge success. You can read more about it in the post, but it flopped. However, it did mine up some knowledge gold in the process.

1. Congressman are not an elite cabal of intellectuals that sit on the hill and make sure no one else gets up there. They are just normal players. They are there to serve YOUR interests. If you want something done, just go to them and ask. They will likely be friendly about it, critique your idea, and help you get as far as possible with it.

2. Congress already has a means for you to suggest your ideas. It's right under your nose! Just message one of them like I mentioned earlier. This is a list of all the congressman/women currently in office, try one from your own party, but any of them will do their best to make your idea a reality.

3. Lawmaking is not an easy deal. First, you come up with a draft, then, you show it to exactly one person in congress for suggestions on how to bulletproof it and make it more appealing. Then, you wait about a week to see if you find any gaping holes and you fix those. You then share with a few congressmen/women and see if there is general support, THEN you put it on the forums. This is not an easy job, so give congress some credit.

But remember, to summarize, if you have an idea, don't just sit with it, get it heard and produced on! Our congress depends on an active populous, so get active and see if you can pull in anyone from other enations or from RL! Try and go for that Society Builder Medal!
