eUK Political Compass

Day 1,928, 11:58 Published in United Kingdom Ireland by Teppishc

A long time ago I had the idea that it might be interesting to find a way to measure the political differences between parties and players in the eUK. I've finally got round to it and decided to create a Political Compass for the eUK.

It will be compiled of responses of eUK players and I will be sending one of the responders 100 Q7's to help them fight 🙂

Though I can’t be bothered to trawl through the propaganda to prove it, I’m pretty sure every party in the last year has claime😛 “We care about new players”, “We listen to everyone, big or small”, or “We put the interests of the eUK first”. These are fairly bland political statements, meaningless out of context and make you wonder what is the real difference between parties?

One good way of looking for differences is the use a tool like the political compass, which lots of you are probably aware of (http://www.politicalcompass.org/) to test players and parties (by aggregate) RL political beliefs. It provides an interesting representation of political views based on two axis’s, the horizontal axis which represents Economic values (left to right), and the vertical axis which represents social values (Libertarian to authoritarian). These evaluations provide an effective view of political beliefs, though by no means comprehensive.

Apron Chef was the first person I saw using the political compass to explore RL political beliefs of ESO players a few months back (See here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-eso-real-life-political-views-of-members--2163444/1/20), and Ayame Crocodile later used the idea to measure the RL politics of the PCP (which you can see here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-pcp-real-life-political-views-survey-2168356/1/20)

There are 2 reasons that I didn’t want to just expand that nationally. 1) RL political views are obviously RL views, people behave differently in games, game mechanics change the practicalities and as a result the political positions on issues. 2) The RL questionnaire is relatively long and may put off respondents.

With that in mind I’ve created and alternate survey with the aim of creating a Political Compass specifically for Erep (& the eUK), it’s shorter and entirely related to erepublik and I hope it can lead to some interesting insights into the politics of the eUK, as well as a scale by which we can measure political differences.

I’ll be sending out a PM with a link to the survey with verification codes , the more people who can complete the form the more interesting and useful it will be so if you have a couple of minutes spare, please fill it in!

PM’s will go out throughout the next day and I aim to canvass a large section of the eUK (if not necessarily all).

If you haven't received a PM you can find the survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1MN4rAyTUCQ-9Rd62vflGJ8JKfutot0ukdj6HhyGMlug/viewform BUT...

It's important to note that if you complete the survey through this link, (and therefore without an Identification code, YOU MUST PM ME to confirm your identity, just sending a message saying "i did the survey around x time/day" will do, otherwise your results won't be counted.

After the results have been collected I will draw one name at random to receive 100 Q7 tanks

Once the results are in the follow up article will explain further details of the processes like sampling, and creating the scales as well as giving the findings (if any!).
