Country Profile:

Romania is a militaristic country based in South-East Europe. Expertise in organisation, a large population and a military culture has led a relatively small country to dominate much of Eastern Europe and Asia. Romania stretches from Eastern Hungary, through Romania, Moldova, the Ukraine, Russia and into Northern China. It is the world's most powerful country, militarily and financially. Yet most people in the UK have never spoken to a Romanian, never fought alongside one, and know next to nothing about this warrior people to the East.

So the Economist Intelligence Unit is bringing you the first in our Countryfile series: Romania.

Enjoy!

Alliance: Atlantis

President: Dsalageanu

Population: 10 373

Dsalageanu, where do you see Romania in 3 months time?

Very hard to forecast. As we all know all empires come to an end. We know that our end is not here yet, but, as the song says, "the future's not ours to see" 🙂 I HOPE that Romania will stick to it's number one quality: the ability to use both success and failure as a stimulus for innovation and growth. If we will ever stop doing that, our end will be near.

What role do you see for Romania in Atlantis?

Atlantis is for us like our home pub, where we can meet all out mates and we can always feel at home. It comes natural for us, we don't need a specific "role". Just being there brings enough satisfaction.

Romania has a planned economy. What made you decide to switch to this system?

No, we don't have a planned economy. We just have a planned defense industry, which is something slightly different. In WSR almost 2000 soldiers fought on our side. Out of which, probably 1.600 Romanians. Out of which, around a third are military. Military dudes consume at least 6 weapons / battle day, this adds up in thousand of weapons. Our defense industry is covering for the large consumption of weapons by involving the military in the production process. Other than that, we have a pretty developed weapons market, as well very much competitive markets in all other industries.

One of Romania's oldest enemies is Hungary. Could you explain why?

Well, Hungary is our favourite sparring partner, our dispute has some deep historical routes. Nevertheless, as we have learned to tease each other and to get on each other's nerves, we also have learned to co-exist together and to share a lot of things. In the last centuries I mean. It is a special relation, not love, nor hate, or maybe a little bit of both 🙂

Would you describe Romania as a military focused state?

Yes, definitely. The army is an important part of our society. Nobody has more fun in this game than soldiers, I always said. Having a lot of friends, support and information, opportunities to do things out of the ordinary, to play war games, espionage, using cool code names, secrets and damage, it's all testosterone out there 😃

What do ordinary Romanians think of other countries in Atlantis?

Romanians are very grateful to our friends and allies and cherish the support of Atlantis much. Romanians are giving people with their friends and can be asked for help in any given situation. Most of the things we have achieved were possible ONLY due to the support of our allies. It is all about teamwork, and in a team you have to both rely on the shoulders of your mates but also offer your shoulder to those who need it at the time.

Political Parties of Romania

Party: Romania Unita

President: Hattor

Members: 233

Tell us a bit about your party. What values does it stand for?

Initially, "Romania Unita" party was made anti-UGD (biggest party in Romania and one of the biggest in the world) by dura_lex, but it evolved and during Shadow Figure and dsalageanu's presidency (the latter now being UGD) the party moved on to be pro-Romania, rather than anti-UGD. As it stands today, the party is meant to come up with ideas for the better work of the country. At the moment, the party doesn't look for places in the congress, explicitly.

What is its position on wars of expansion?

Rather than wars, this party would think that the country can grow through economy. Having a better economic development could suffice the lack of certain raw materials. Expansion just for the fun of it, would be fun indeed, but with the sole reason to win the game, that would be nonsense. Useless to play when you're the only one left. Still, when there is insults in the dialogue with certain countries (like Hungary's case last summer), then war is a way to show that we're not to be trifled with.

What kind of policies has it proposed in the past?

It proposed the rebirth of the embassies, a project that was lost after Belea2008 stepped down as minister of foreign affairs. Tutorials for new players, and ways to increase production are started from red lines made by the party.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. In what part of eRepublik are you most active, Military, Politics or Business?

Military and Politics. They're sort of fun. The Business part I didn't like; I've tried it, but I just don't have time for it. Still, there's another fun part in eRepublik: the media!

What made you decide to stand to lead your party?

The fact that it got to the point where it didn't represent anything anymore. It was just a party like any other, but the big names had left, so it was a little stranded. Now, I want it to get back on track.

What is your parties stance on Atlantis?

Lovely alliance, full of dedicated and righteous people. Romania shouldn't leave Atlantis, considering the status quo. Countries like Sweden, Norway, UK, Croatia, USA and Canada are great as friends. You can have reliable backup, and also someone to discuss with more often than the troll nations (not all of them) of PEACE.

Partidul Liberal

President: Andrew McWilliams

Members: 701

Tell us a bit about your party. What values does it stand for?

Our party is the Liberal Party. As such, we hold the classical liberal doctrine in high regard. While we do try and follow this doctrine as best we can, we do acknowledge that eRepublik, as a whole, is not the best stage for real-life doctrines, so we adapt and use the best options available to us whenever it is possible. Being liberal does not mean we dismiss everything non-liberal from the start.

What is its position on wars of expansion?

Wars are pretty much the driving force of both the game itself (it keeps people active and involved) and of the economy of a nation (I wouldn't be a Liberal if I didn't care for more consumption, more production, would I?). Though the idea of conquering the whole world/as much of the world as possible isn't exactly my point of enjoying a game, I support wars that have a clear objective; an objective that comes to our advantage.

What kind of policies has it proposed in the past?

Well, I'm not that old in the game (a v1 user), so I wouldn't know what to say about times long past and forgotten. But right now, wars create a new level of communication and dependencies. No one can solely take on the rest of the world, so it is important to enable and consolidate connections with various forces in order to come out on top, to have an/the edge against your opponent. In time of war, no one stands alone - Atlantis and PEACE are two such examples.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. In what part of eRepublik are you most active, Military, Politics or Business?

I'd have to say Politics, specifically Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy. I'm more of a grunt, when it comes to the Military module - I can think for myself, but I'd rather just follow orders; as for Business, I'm not all that interested in this side right now. Coming back to Politics, I have had the chance to serve as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for one full term and, while I was still new to the position and not all that decisive, it was a valuable experience that has helped me develop and see and understand things otherwise beyond my reach.

What made you decide to stand to lead your party?

To put it bluntly, the former President was going through the list and I was the first option available. On a more serious tone, the party believed in me and supported me from a very early game-age. As a result, I won 3 terms of Congressman and 1 term in the Cabinet; I felt it was high time I gave something back, and help out as best I can. Besides, leading a party of nearly 700 members (still second, though 😛) to achieve its goals, internally and externally, is both a challenge and a necessity I felt I had to undertake.

What is your parties stance on Atlantis?

I believe I speak for most of the Romanian parties when I say we fully backed-up Atlantis, time and again. I, for one, will always militate for threshing problems out and coming out strong as a unified block in the form of Atlantis. We've had our ups and downs, but we believe in Atlantis, we believe in our allies too much to back out on them. Not before, and definitely not now, after West Siberian Region.

eRomanian Brainstorming Party

President: Grinch85

Members: 201

Tell us a bit about your party. What values does it stand for?

Our party is the last one in top 5 with only 200 members. It is the place were I started my political career, and the party that gave me the chance to develop opportunities from my first days. Our key value is that we totally disapprove of all the "fights" between political parties. We are always somewhere in the middle and that has helped us to grow to 200 members with 50 more that the previous month

What is its position on wars of expansion?

How to say? It depends. Romania made some mistakes in the last month and we lost over 10 regions. Now we need to take a deep breath and focus on defence.

What kind of policies has it proposed in the past?

As the presentation says we are Centre-right, Libertarian and I personally and my team believe in right politics and policies

Tell us a little bit about yourself. In what part of eRepublik are you most active, Military, Politics or Business?

I don't have as much time as I need for eRepublik so sometimes my political activity is not as high as I would like, but I'm proud to be eRomanian Brainstorming Party President and to be without disputes and cheap propaganda. More than that I'm here since august last year and I became president last month. So patience is one of my attributes.

What made you decide to stand to lead your party?

My/Our party passed through two earthquakes. First when all the well-known members went to a newly created party, at that time the eUGD alternative, but they failed. That was my early period. So we were not suffering much, but another earthquake hit us when our president went directly from her job to eUGD. That was like a slap and make as look like fools. So then I decided to take this party and keep it alive and now I'm kinda proud with job I've done in last month.

What is your parties stance on Atlantis?

Sincerely I'm a little disappointed by Atlantis perspectives and actions. My feeling as Romanian is that we are not as united as Peace is. I don't know why, but sometimes our allies aren't as supportive as we are.

eUniunea Gamerilor Democrati

Members: 929

Party President: dani36

Tell us a bit about your party. What values does it stand for?

Our party is the biggest in Romania at the moment. It's the second largest party in Europe. We stand for some few basic values: equality, prosperity and justice.

What is its position on wars of expansion?

We agree that wars are necessary in this game as it makes the game more interesting for all the players but only when they are fought with either friendship as training wars are or if they are between countries that have roughly the same power level.

What kind of policies has it proposed in the past?

We proposed a lot of policies from tax cuts to tax raises as we thought the best way for Romania was. We started wars and ended wars, we supported private projects and helped citizens. We where always there for fellow Romanians when they needed it.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. In what part of eRepublik are you most active, Military, Politics or Business?

I am most active in the politics department, being the president of the biggest Romanian party I have to. I don't neglect my military carrier neither, fighting every time I can.

What made you decide to stand to lead your party?

I decided to candidate to the party presidency because I wanted to bring the party to it's former glory. I wanted to bring the party to new heights and improve every little thing in it and so I did. I have the support of my fellow party members.

What is your parties stance on Atlantis?

Atlantis is the alliance of which Romania is part of. We respect our fellow allies from atlantis and will help them no matter what.
