Dictators and coups? Blame the pigeons.

Day 2,654, 06:56 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by VoodooMike71

Blame the pigeons - I heard them shouting “coup! coup!”

A couple of thoughts on the new military coup and dictator thing…

1. Recipe for foreign PTOs
The new dictatorship rules make it clear that coups have to come from MUs based in the country, but there’s nothing stopping nasty bad guys from places that UKIP don’t like running and populating those MUs. A bit like the Unity MU, but in reverse.

So, nothing to stop some known PTOer and all-round bad guy like … say … oh I don’t know … BigAnt using stolen Treasury money to set up an MU and recruit people with less than wholesome intentions into it, just to start a sodding coup.

Hurray!

Fighters be warned - this is NOT suitable footwear for coups

2. Military > Politics (or gold > game)
The military module is now - officially - the only thing that matters. With this update, Plato is saying loud and clear that politics, business, the media etc all now play second fiddle to the military module.

Elected governments? Pah! Don’t need ‘em.
Political parties? Ignore them!
Writing articles? Waste of time, even if you want to run a country.

Anything that doesn’t rely on gold purchases for real success? LOL, don’t be so naive.

There are players out there (like me) who aren’t interested in clicking the big red Fight button, but are here for the political and media modules. Any one of those players could now spend their entire eRep career getting themselves into a position to be elected as CP, all for some jumped up meathead in a MU with lots of cash (or … ahem … gold) to wipe it out in four hours flat.

Alternatively, there are jumped up meatheads out their with visa cards and the whimsical desire to run the country for the lulz who can now, effectively, pay to do so.

This is officially not good, and if it pans out badly, could easily see player numbers drop even faster than they have been doing. What will we be left with? Those who lurrvve the big red fight button and nothing else. And if that happens, Plato may as well change the name of the game from eRepublik to VISA Club.

And the stupidest part? eRepublik's military element is bloody rubbish. Really, it is. All you do is click a button. Repeatedly. And the people that are here - and paying through the nose - just for the fighting already know that there are FAR better war games out there. They probably play them already. So why? WHY? I genuinely don't get it.

Gold = war = more gold = more war = etc etc ad infinitum

But … silver lining time
At no time is the eUK more fun than in times of adversity. So I say bring on the forig PTOers and psycho commanders - and let the good times roll. But only for a couple of weeks ... then it'll be time to go and do something less boring instead.

TL😉R
New dictators and coups thing = bad.
Military module in general = bad.
Handing the game over to MU commanders instead of politicians = bad.
Everything = bad.
