Crazy Congress!
HebronGazelle
Congress is crazy... Maybe! There have been a lot of votes for Congress in the past few days, and for some people there were too much to handle. The months of an inactive Congress mean that slow people are unable to catch up with this quickly evolving Congress. Let's look at what has been going on.
Congress Votes... To Dissolve Congress!
Yeah, that's right, your supreme parliament has decided that we are too stupid to make decisions for the country. Even though it is probably best for the eUK to not have a Congress I did vote no, but this was too close to call. Rob the Bruce originally proposed the law (as a joke I think, but I won't be surprised if it was serious) and it looked like passing for a while before the No vote finally took over.
Dissolve Congress:
Yay: 4 (RobTheBruce, Aaron Mark Daniels, Appleby, BaronChris)
Nay: 5 (Cheetah, Massacar, Woldy, BruceWayne, Aultman)
Abstain: 0
The eUK reacts to the latest Congress vote.
We All Want Free Resources, Except Someone!
Prior to the takeover from MEK, the eUK was renting regions from Norway to receive a fruit bonus. The takeover caused us to lose the regions as well as most of our money. Norway has offered to pay the first two months of a renegotiated region rent deal and we shall continue paying after that. Although the battle has started, Congress decided it was only best to vote on it.
Resource Bonus Deal:
Yay: 10 (Cheetah, LordofBones, Appleby, Mitzuno, RobTheBruce, Massacar, BruceWayne, BaronChris, Aultman, Woldy)
Nay: 1 (AARON MARK DANIELS)
Abstain: 0
Oh yeah! Congress did something right!
Mr. Speaker
Congress also tried to bring back the speaker act (at the same time we were trying to get rid of Congress, strange?). This vote was brought under criticism in my Congress PM with some saying we should discuss it more, while the other PM had more support for the act. It was an extremely close vote but the act just passed.
Speaker Act:
Yay: 14
Nay: 12
Abstain: 4
And then we voted on who should be speaker. Rob the Bruce and Adastros both put themselves forward for the vote, but Congressmen also had the option to vote for a reopening of nominations or to abstain. Although Adastros received the most votes they did not receive a majority of the votes from Congress (excluding abstains), receiving 12/25 votes, and therefore not becoming the speaker. A vote between Adastros and reopening nominations is currently in progress. This was the result of the first vote:
Speaker Vote:
Abstain: 5
ReOpen: 4
RobBruce: 9
Adastros: 12
Ummmm, yeah, what just happened?
Down With Democracy!
Karacticus from the other PM has spoken on behalf of his Congress PM saying that it ridiculous that we should have a revote when no one received a majority. He has now claimed his PM refuses to vote and that he is the PP of every party:
"This thread refuses to vote (this is a sweeping statement but hey ho I fancy being as petty as the other side of congress).
Please tell the other half of congress to grow up and stop crying about something that isn't actually important. If we're ignoring a votes then that makes me the current CP and PP of all parties. Tools." - Karacticus
After demanding a logical reason for the revote it was put forward that no one received a majority of the votes, which is a very logical reason for a revote. Is Congress on the way towards a total collapse or will this blow over? We shall find out soon...

And this is why I love made up legislation.
If we're going down the route of "parliamentary majority" then the actual speaker act itself technically didn't pass.
So do we revote on the speaker act?
I'd quite happily keep this entire thing going round and round in circles because quite frankly I love looking stupid and talking rubbish.
I said that to Woldy just so that we could have more votes, but apparently we never include abstentions. That means the speaker act passed! But we don't have a speaker...
Shall we vote on including abstain in the vote count (making it essentially a "No" vote)? I would love to vote on it.
And this is why I hate legislating.
Don't worry, you've given me the idea of writing a "Parliamentary Voting Act", I'll work on it soon.
No wonder the proposal to dissolve the whole lot got yes votes
Tbf the confusion is my fault, the phrase 'majority vote' in the Speaker Act is ambiguous and we can amend it to a precise definition. For me having a re vote makes perfect sense and Idk what the fuss is about
But who can be feckin arsed honestly
You'll win anyway, no worries!
Looked at the T swizzle gifs, friggin amazin' CC.
The inside of my trousers turned white while looking for more gifs!
grim
Yeah, my cat spilled paint all over those trousers I left on the floor, fortunately I wasn't wearing them 🙂
Smooth dodge CC.
mine was from cum
Well that"s why Congress been called Mongress.Concerning speaker I"ve abstain,as disolving Congress no.Well done on the article CheetahCurtis.o7
Impeach all congress just a bunch o' trouble makers.
v + s
Voting on gdocs = higher attendance, that is all I shall say! Hopefully the speaker will organise things more, I definitely agree with a) new threads per topic and b) topics to be discussed one by one
If I'm not mistaken, gdoc voting is based on trust. What's to stop someone masquerading as more than one Congressman?
We could individually give each Congressman a unique code through PM for each vote which they fill in on the gdoc to prove it is them. The only way that can be fixed is my the person who sends out the codes or buy people selling their codes, but votes could be sold without this method.
The only negative I can think to that would be the effort the person running the vote would have to go through (40 PM's could be annoying and long, especially if we have lots of votes - we had three running at once recently).
Pretty much what Cheetah said, but you can also make the results public and live so you can watch them go in, if I saw my name next to something I didnt vote I would report it to speaker. Easy gees.
Oh and cheet if you have 3 votes at once just put them on the same doc!
They were all set up at different times. The first one was running for a few hours before the second vote was set up, and then the third followed not long after, we wouldn't have been able to have them in the same gdoc without either some people double voting and/or extending the voting time limit of the first and second votes.
So, we don't trust people to vote properly on rules that aren't enforceable where we have to trust people to follow them.
Isn't this really bloody weird....
we decided several months ago that the cp would choose a speaker.
also name all the congress who didnt vote please
We decided several months ago to burn the speaker act to the ground before congress then didn't bother to come up with another system and we just relied on people to do it randomly, actually.
Hmm, this is actually pretty interesting. Again further proof the people at the top are right for the job. Also call for naming of voters. To the best of my knowledge (and it would be pretty crazy) we don't have a whip system in eRep, so see no problem with identifying how an elected official votes.
Now I really understand why it is called ''Mongress''. Enough said!
dont you have to vote to remove the old system before voting to bring in another ?
