CJCS Address | Marine Corps Introduction | Last Week Airborne

Address to the eUS Military and eUSA Community
From the Desk of the Chairman

Before anything else I must thank Cyber Witch for what literally has been years of service as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Her tenure has seen great changes to the game including the introduction of separate division sub-battles, in-game military unit structures, training grounds, special in-game missions, houses, and countless economic reforms (most of which did not work) and the realignment of the game itself to lower population levels throughout the eRepublik ‘New World’. She has held the eUS Military together during these game changes and has reinforced its position of respect as one of the major, independent eUSA Military Units.

The position of Chairman now falls to me. When looking at those that have previously served I acknowledge that I am not particularly qualified to take on the position. I have a lot to learn and I will make mistakes and missteps. I ask for understanding at this time of transition.

One thing that has surprised me during the transition so far is that no one in the broader community has leveled any criticism about previous controversies surrounding the eUS Military’s conversion from being the government military to being an independent military unit. This may be due to the fact that game changes now favor multiple military units in any given ecountry. Let’s face it, any analysis of current battle damage clearly shows the majority of damage is contributed by fighters in independent military units.

Coordination of action between independent MUs and government is now required. Communications must be open and I believe all parties to the relationship now have made a commitment to the mutual respect needed for success. I believe that this normalization of relations with government may be Cyber Witch’s greatest contribution during her service as CJCS, even though she may not admit it. She achieved this thru a stubborn persistence in our military’s right to be an independent unit over many years and I appreceate that her efforts resulted in what can now be a transition of leadership within our MU that is seen in the broader community as, at best, merely a curiosity.

Within this much improved atmosphere I still do need to reaffirm a few “values” that must continue in our organization. The eUS Military is an independent military. We accept no tax dollars. We decide who to recruit and promote. As any MU we select the daily order, rank our own priorities and direct our unit’s members. We invite those of all parties, all levels of political, media, or production activity. The only restriction I ask is of those that serve on the JCS itself. Their jobs are demanding enough and to prevent conflicts of interest I ask that they do not serve as a cabinet member or as POTUS.

We are a eUnited States military. We will generally be following the established government priorities; however, I would much rather try to be the fifty-first percent in a winning battle that might be a secondary battle or ally’s battle than to be the seventy-first percent in a blowout that was set as the government campaign of the day many hours earlier and quite frankly probably should have been changed already. In fact, I see this ability to engage and win in multiple targets, at times, as necessary in the game today. This is also where the nation’s many MUs can come in handy. It is often most efficient and practical for us to pursue separate targets simultaneously by effective use of multiple MUs. If you see us fighting somewhere other than the government’s prio #1, it is almost always for this reason. Once again, this military unit will fight in the eUSA national interest!

To those in the eUS Military that may not know this: my favorite part of the game is watching the battles. The game does offer times when a small group of fighters can change the outcome of close battles. I like to seek these opportunities out. With the properly timed contributions of even just a few fighters, battle rounds can be won. To this end I pledge to you that I will make every effort to provide just this type of leadership, identifying and taking advantage of these types of opportunities are what make the game fun.

To effectively take advantage of these opportunities I at least need a core group, in each of the divisions, to be available to undertake these lightning strikes. I urge all of you that can be on IRC at least for a time to come on. You may find lively conversation about many topics at times there, or perhaps it is just a matter of idling there should an order be broadcast when a chance to flip a wall at a critical time becomes available.

Due to retirements there have been many changes in leadership in most branches of the eUS Military. Many of these new officers are now learning their new roles and undertaking other assignment I have asked of them. I now ask one more thing of them, and publically in this forum. I ask that each takes a leadership role in keeping orders on the forum updated, to be on IRC in our channels when they are online, to actively direct those available at the time to sway the close battles they can identify and to foster a community spirit with all those that join our branches and want to contribute to our enation. The fact of the matter is there is never a long period that one of us isn’t online; we need to make the most of it.

Finally to our Marines, Airborne, Army, Mobile infantry, National Guard and Training Corps members, I get that our community is our success. To the extent that we have a vibrant community we will recruit and retain members. And we have many kinds of members at that.

We have those that really are two clickers; signing in, working, fighting, perhaps with little other time to contribute. Community to these folks is the sense that they can fight as part of a coordinated team. To these players I pledge up to date forum battle orders and current in-game daily battle orders. For a click or two more: commune opportunities and enhanced supplies.

For the social animals, we have the expanded forum threads and IRC channels. For the ambitious, anyone willing to help out with administrative tasks, recruiting or training, please contact me or your branch CO. This type of involvement is the path to promotion. We are attempting to provide a weekly all branch paper for those of all activity levels and for the general eUSA public.

My open door policy is that I will be on IRC daily. My office is in our MU IRC channels. I welcome your ideas, criticism and input. I learn thru direct interaction and value frank interchanges and debate. For those not on IRC, I respond to forum and in-game messages.

I look forward to serving our community here in the eUS Military and the broader eUSA and I thank all for their support during this transition.

Funnies

Here are some jokes to end this week’s article on a lighter side.
1. What did the pepper shaker say to the salt shaker? You’re sodium cute.
2. Playing 8-person smash was one of the deepest and most thought provoking experiences I’ve ever had… I spent the whole time trying to find myself.
3. I always assumed you took off your pants during a prostate exam. But apparently that’s “not appropriate for a medical professional.”
4. I told my date to text me when she gets home. I guess she must be homeless.
5. I have an amazing psychic ability to find object just before people lose them. Unfortunately, the police call it theft.
