Call for a Constitutional Convention

Dear citizens of the eUnited States of America,
I am here to spread news of an important step into the future of our great nation! Just recently, Congress approved the creation of a Constitutional Convention to begin drafting a Constitution for the eUSA to enumerate the powers of government and rights of citizens. I want to take this time to explain why we are doing this, and what we are doing.
First comes the why. Some have asked 'why bother? Isn't it pointless?' Well, that's not true. It is possible to make the nation's Constitution conform to the contract standards of the admins, thus making it enforceable. No, it isn't just a pointless paper. Some have pointed out we already have a Constitution. This is technically true, we do have a constitution (you can find it on the wiki). However, that document was written months ago under Beta rules, was written poorly (no offense to those who wrote it), and has lapsed into obscurity and neglect. Therefore, we need to scrap it and start again.
What do we hope to accomplish? I cannot speak for the other eleven members of the Convention, but I hope to see this document serve as a symbol of national pride for eAmericans. I also hope it will decrease the friction that all too often arises between the President and Congress by clearly enumerating the powers, responsibilities, and duties of each. Third, this document will set the groundwork for a lot of the fun and lulz stuff that we do on the forums (which I recommend everyone join).
The Convention, as I have already hinted, will consist of 12 members total, of whom three are to be elected at large by the population of the eUSA. Therefore, tomorrow afternoon at some point I will open the necessary threads to begin the process of electing the remaining Convention attendees. If you are interested, be sure to check for it!
Over the next few weeks (months maybe?), we will work hard to create a working, living, breathing, Constitution that represents everything great about this nation of the New World. I hope for the support of the American public, the President, and Congress in this endeavor.

Being a newbie citizen to this new world. I'm less than educated on the fundamentals of how this great society works. Is it possible to curtail the power of the executives, by using the new technologies that exist to have popular votes on all decisions affecting our new world? The results would effectively eliminate the need for Presidents and Congress. Is this a possibility that others find attractively progressive?
I think that our eUS constitution should mirror the constitution of the actual U.S. as closely as possible. Great job Cromstar.

Great idea, codifying everyone's rights into a national document will continue our status as a world power.

I have some ideas in on the current one with more to give...can't wait till it's done.
I voted no against the Constitutional Convention. The proposal was long on 'how' and short on 'why'.
Please also note, the current constitution sets out NO means by which it can be amended -- much less re-written from scratch.
I'd also like to point out that in the voting thread, the poll shows 15-5 but the actual posts show a vote of 15-3 -- not reaching quorum.

ssomo, you did not count the two abstain votes. Those count towards quorum, as they are votes cast. The vote was 15-3-2. As for the old Constitution, it was never adopted by the public anyways.
Feel free to nominate me... I think that I would do a better job of representing the common people better than any of the candidates who have been proposed thus far.

@Desmond; From what I understand there has been a lot of confusion between Congress and the President recently on who has the power and authority to do what? This would also help clear up some of the issues you are complaining about on your last shout, if the document provides a means for information to be better distributed to the American public, where strategy warrants it possibly (though I myself have found little to be caugh off guard by as of yet and thought the war games war were given plenty of warning.
I would like to see regular updates posted concerning the devlopment of the Constiution and allowing American citizens to voice their opinions on certain issues, therefore preventing the document from needing a last minute revision, or post tacked on Bill of Rights.
Also, who has the power to enforce the legal decisions of the Constituion besides the court system of the Forums, is that enough strength to maintain the continual integrity of the document?
All in all I think its a good idea though! God speed!
