Get Out the Vote!
Joey3790, Deputy Secretary of Media

That time is upon us again. Friday is the 5th, Election Day. We get to pick the next leader of the country. Do you have a favorite that you’re going to vote for yet? I suggest you make up your mind now as Friday is roughly a day away! So who all is running for that coveted oval chair in the Oval Office?

These are some of your February 2016 Presidential hopefuls.

Orikfricai

The Dark Knight

George Armstrong Custer

Do you see your favorite in the list? Now, I already know what you’re thinking. How can I get my favorite to win? Well, that’s an easy one Little Timmy. You have to Vote for them! When you see that big blue “VOTE” button on Friday, click it and then jam on the picture of your favorite person. Jam on it hard. Then get your eFriends (even, dare I say, your Pfriends) to vote as well. The more people you can get to vote the better.

What happens if you don’t vote? Your favorite person may not win, and all month long you’re stuck with other guy. And who knows what that “other guy” will mess up. The eUSA could get wiped off the map because the wrong person did the wrong thing at the wrong time. Don’t let that happen! It’s up to you to make sure the future is wonderful. Vote for a wonder future. The power is yours’.

Fun Fact: The highest voter turnout for the Presidential Election in 2015 was 795. So here’s my personal challenge to everyone: Can we beat that number? Can we at least beat last month’s 515? Let’s set a voting record. We can if everyone votes!

Will your favorite candidate win? There’s only 1 way to find out.

(Something to think about)

Interview with a Presidential Candidate
Joey3790, Deputy Secretary of Media

After a good interview with somebody, what do you do to follow it up? Hold another interview, of course. In the last WHPR we got to know both The Dark Knight and Orikfricai a little bit more. This time around we get to know a little more about a third Presidential candidate, George Armstrong Custer. And I was the lucky one to sit down and ask him a few questions.

Personally, I wasn’t sure how this was going to go. But I’ll tell you what I learned about Custer. When an issue comes up that strikes a chord with him, he has a certain fire inside him, a certain passion for getting things done, that he becomes an unstoppable force. Don’t believe me? Why don’t you just keep reading and see for yourself what George Armstrong Custer himself says?

Question 1: Many people already know you, but for some of the newer players who may not, can you tell me a little bit about your history in eRepublik? What would you like other people to know about you?
Custer: My game history is basically, “I used to be somebody.” I joined the JCS Army when I started playing in March 2009, worked my way up through the ranks into Intel and Media, finally to Brigadier General as third in Command of a 300-man Army. As Media officer I took the Army Times from obscurity to one of the most read papers of its time. This formed my interest and skills in media, which eventually led to being tapped as DepSecMed and then SecMed under several Presidents. The visual format of the current WHPR is one I developed years ago.
I also founded the original AMP back on Day 835, and more recently the OhFU Party.

Question 2: What would make you a good President this month?
Custer: As SecMed, and afterward as an Adviser, I had PDB access, which gave me closer exposure to how the top level of government works. While I acknowledge my lack of experience in many areas, that's what those Department heads are there for. A President can know everything about everything, but a President can also be an effective manager-- and that's me.
I'm one who thinks on his feet, adapts to changing conditions, and am definitely able to listen and learn. I know how to follow good guidance. I also know how to say, "No, that's not what I had in mind. Find a way to do it this way, here."

Question 3: If elected, what would you like to accomplish this month?
Custer: More than anything, I see a February Custer Presidency as a time to try talking sense to the Establishment in Congress. Knowing that I'll be shouted down and derided, we’ll make a big media display of their arrogance and disdain, and push Party Presidents to load their February 25th Congress lists with players who are active and as pissed off as me. The ONLY way to beat this system is to out-vote it, to simply outnumber them.

Question 4: It’s obvious that you’re rallying for tax reform. What do you say to those who are struggling under the current 25%, or MAX TAXES?
Custer: I'm so sick of us all being referred to as sheeple and peasants. I'm especially incensed to hear (read) remarks about people who don't have their game-- companies and business setups, etc.,-- set up like the Experts, that we're dumb and deserve to be taxed into the ground.
And, yes, I fully understand that the President (or the Dictator under the current Law) does not set taxes. The President is but one voice in Congress, but that voice is one of a fair degree of influence. This President’s voice will sound a lot like the voice of the citizens whose voices have not been heard by Congress.

Question 5: How do you plan on handling Foreign Relations?
Custer: Not my strong suit. But I am a strong manager, and that's a big deal. I do have questions about certain alliances, and how some old friends fell to the wayside. Foreign relations is a longer term project than the month-to-month Presidency, so I expect to make myself a strong Adviser to the SecState and his team.

Question 6: I don’t believe you mentioned much about your Cabinet other than who you’ve selected as Vice President. Who will be filling in the other positions?
Custer: I would keep almost everyone in the current Cabinet on the job-- for continuity, and if they're running their Departments good then why screw with that? Well, I do have ideas and a style, so some of them may resign, or as we've seen before, mass partisan resignations.
As for my VP pick of Gnilraps drawing some negative comments-- I’ll be President, and have other work for him to do.
If I haven’t pissed off Rainy Sunday too much, I hope she’ll be my Chief of Staff.

Question 7: What, in your opinion, is the most important trait for a CP/D to have and how have you demonstrated that you have that quality?
Custer: Again, a seemingly populist answer, but.. the worst thing anyone who intends to serve America can do, whether in Congress or as President, is to become too insulated and less aware of what’s going on “out there” among the average players. I have not fallen into any cliques, I’m not bound to any major Party.. hell, most of my old friends have long since died, and I’ve offended most who haven’t.
The best thing a President can do is to not disconnect and think he’s any better or different than any other player-- we’re all in this together, ya know.

Question 8: Is there anything special you want to say to all eAmericans before they cast their vote?
Custer: Seriously… think about your vote. It’s your vote, not your Party’s or your buddy’s vote-- it’s your own, your one single (and anonymous) click that will determine whether or not, for the next 28 days, you matter.

There you have it, another strong contender in what is shaping out to be a very tight race. I want to personally thank George Armstrong Custer for taking the time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions from a bumbling reporter like me. I wish him the best of luck in the election.

It has been a great term. We released consistent WHPRs twice weekly. I could not speak more highly of the team that I had. James came up with and single-handedly ran a very successful government media contest, demonstrating creativity and organization. Joey has shown immense talent, writing quickly, consistently, and well on every assignment that I have given him. A^2 has given in depth, informative, intriguing war reports when we needed them- and we needed them a lot this month. If I could, I’d buy them each a beer and give them a pat on the back. You all rock, guys! Thank you for being awesome!
