Madness Week Article 1
Franklin Stone
Comrade Franklin Stone
Editor, The Tin Hat
Currently in Public Congressional Proceedings there is two threads discussing citizenship in America. One of them is [Discussion] Thedillpickl on the IES Approved list concerning an expatiate who wishes to return home. Now Thedillpickl is after a fashion a friend of mine, I know him to be a good guy and personally witnessed what happened when he immigrated to Switzerland; what I will say is that he like most of America just simply got tired of the cluster bump that is the eUSA Forum 'meta government'. There has even been a [Discussion] Removal of Beach Bunny from IES Staff opened against a former President who is now an IES Agent, who on the word of our current President Aramec had placed Dill on the accepted list, before then placing him a Hold Status; where his application expired.
There have been many accusations bandied around, but it is that he ended up in Canada, where after the 'USA meta government' had agreed to a Training War decided that for revenge and the plain old lulz of it decided to go ahead a wipe Canada. It was at this time I joined the Canadians In America (CIA) Military Unit (MU) and though that unit pounded the dog biscuits out of the United States Armed Forces (USAF), I simply sat back and laughed; they were no good even back then. The one accusation that is being aimed at him the most is that while he was Canadian, during that war he fought against the USAF; as a citizen of his adopted country he fought to defend it after the 'USA meta government' broke their word. He is therefore considered by the 'meta government' to be a threat to America, to which I say; 'He is no more of a threat then Henry Pfeiffer Arundel, who did the same thing ([VOTE] Censure and Blacklist Pfeiffer) when he defected to the United Kingdom (UK) and fought against the USAF.' -the only difference being Pfeiffer did it straight out of the White House for personal gain.
Once again I encourage American Citizens to read those threads and decided for yourselves. There are many long time American Citizens who know what happened back then, just as there are many who know what happened behind the locked doors of 'Private Congress' and the 'back channels' where Pfeiffer sneaked back to the USA. I encourage American Citizens to search around the 'USA Forum' for threads to read and form your own opinion. Once more I encourage citizens to get involved in your government, ask questions in General eRepublik Discussion; join in conversations in Public Congressional Proceedings If you, like me, are tired of a 'meta government' that makes promises they can't or won't keep then join the Revolution and get involved. Help bring Democratic change to America.

Madness? Or poetic genius?

much as I love The Stone, this was a poor use of the official national newspaper.
a scathing Op-Ed does not a WHPR make.
I don't mind the op-ed (though it should have been labeled as such) as much as I mind the criminal lack of proofreading. This is honestly on par with the sentence structure, grammar, and usage I expect from my 6 year old. No lie.
I wish I had children that smart. Wouldn't have to lock them up in the basement.
you are obsessed with Arundel (after a fashion a friend)...
Feel the Bern!! Oh.. Wait...
A little proofreading would help
Yeah, I did this way to quickly while dealing with RL; very sloppy.
It's the WHPR. No excuse.
Paragraph 1: 9 grammar/usage errors, 1 absurdity.
Paragraph 2: 11 grammar/usage errors (maybe more - I got a headache), several horrible sentences, 3 absurdities.
Paragraph 3: 6 grammar/usage errors, 2 absurdities.
"Sloppy" doesn't even scratch the surface.
A like the using of somebody else too set up yet another fluffer rant
It's all he's got.
Grammar nazi spotted!!
Not normally. But this is WHPR. I've never criticized his personal newspaper articles.
WHPR deserves better.
the dreaded Red Pencil..!!
I am going to be completely honest here. I never thought this would make it to the WHPR, having been invited several times to write; not once did it make to the paper. Had I thought it would actually be accepted I would have done a much better job.
Yes, I am totally embarrassed by this segment.
Now there's a man.
Thanks FS. You deserve kudos for not blaming someone else, passing the buck, or firing back.
I was surprised to hear that over the PM 😛. Honestly according to the rules of the event (or lack thereof) you could have sent me an article filled with pictures of pancakes (Which as I look back, was actually exactly what I told you 😛), and It still would have been a valid submission. I question now what I could have done to make that clearer, I didn't want you to think I planned on excluding you. That just sounds mean and wrong 😛 Apologies that you thought I would.
I do not blame you, I blame only myself; I should have realized that the offer coming from you was a genuine offer -it was totally my own fault.
Past SecMeds have used op-eds in the past to fill sections of WHPR and develop interesting reads for the eUS community. The SecMEd should not use op-eds from the community as a way of replacing an entire WHPR report. This just looks poorly organised with lack of any work from the Media team. Handing around the WHPR to different writers each week makes it seem to the public that the Media team simply doesn't want to do any work.
Stone is a great brother of mine, he writes controversial articles and we all love or hate him for it. But as even he would describe himself as only a mere "citizen soldier", does the Media team really feel like someone thats not even involved in national politics can fill out an entire WHPR with the relevant information that eUS citizens need? (i.e. whats going on with Spain maybe for starters...maybe like anything relevant)
Aramec wanted "Madness Week" as an event for the harvest festival. It is my duty as his Secretary of Media to oblige. My media team is very eager and willing to do work, far from lazy. If you want the event canceled, that is something you must take up with Aramec, not myself or my team.
President's order notwithstanding, this newspaper is ultimately your responsibility.
in the particular case of Stone becoming busy with RL, he should have been relieved and reassigned to another day. organization fail on your part.
as to Stone's content, he clearly marks his own paper as personal Op-Ed disconnected from his Party, which was not done here. this is inexcusable, and your responsibility as final editor.
a Madness theme does not mean simply turning the asylum over to the inmates. The SecMed should work closely with the guest editors to assure timely delivery of a quality product, not simply (assuming the password wasn't handed out) copy/pasting a submission into the paper and publishing as is.
Madness Week guest editors should be given guidelines to follow-- what makes the WHPR different than a personal newspaper, what the longstanding format is and why it works, etc. [e.g.: three segments; your choice from among Op-Ed, Foreign Affairs; Elections (recent, or analysis), Spotlight a Cabinet Dept, Interview, War Map/Analysis, Fluff (cartoon, meme, joke, etc.), Congress activity...]
finally... proofread. then proofread again and again, even post-publication.
the ultimate responsibility--and blame-- for everything about the WHPR is yours, not the President's or your guest editor's.
#1. Stone was not assigned a day. He was told, and I quote myself, "as soon as you can get it done at your convenience". Organization fail? Relax yourself buddy. He felt it was ready, it was the only one I had in for Monday, and so i abode to Aramec's daily article plan and published it.
#2. Aramec actually wanted me to hand the password out, I decided against that. He also said that they could write ANYTHING they wanted without restrictions other than eRep's rules. And that is the whole theme of the event, I questioned it due to how it has never been done before. He wanted to try it, and so I began searching for writers as fast as they would respond to me. (Which is not fast, by the way.)
#3. The regular format is a bi-weekly thing usually for my team. And will ONLY miss one edition this week due to the event. Just because I am also doing the event, doesn't mean that every event paper will have two other segments (Which would grow repetitive within a day) out every time as if my team's productivity and actual coverable news had tripled. As i mentioned under #1, Aramec wanted one article per day, Monday-Friday. But I can't even do that today, for example, due to how short-notice everything was. So one or two of the days this week will likely have two submissions rather than one.
Blame me for whatever you want honestly. I am SoM because the President wanted me to be. I am still SoM because I am performing the tasks that the President has requested me to do (With plenty of compromises having been made). The role of SoM is to do what you are expected to do with WHPR by the governing body. If you dislike what this governing body has done with WHPR and you'd like to vent by shooting the face of WHPR, go ahead, that's part of my job. But a quick lesson in problem-solving for you in case this actually vehemently bothers you, which due to your long response i feel it does. You'll never get a tree to stop growing apples by shooting them off of the branches. Savvy?

Thanks, Tom.
I've SecMed'ed under Oblige, Civil Anarchy, Israel Stevens, Pfeiffer, and Oblige again. Some months were better than others. But I never had the situation you're in with this Madness Week thing. Please pick through my remarks and find constructive criticism that may be of use to you, and please disregard the rest.
Took what I believed to be most important 2 lines of advice into account while editing today's madness week article. Thank you for them.
Spin Facade Press, now we are getting somewhere or not..
Both Custer and I have served as Sec Med in the past. We both understand it's not an easy job, and considering all three of us have been in the same position now, we are certainly not making this a personal attack on you as a player. I'm sure Custer, that old f-ck, would agree with me on this.
I also tried to do a really frequent WHPR, but by the end of the term, your whole team ends up burning out and you're usually left by yourself to put together WHPR's as fast and as well as you can. It's not an easy job. This idea of using guest writers is a great one, especially incorporating people from across all party lines. I just think it needs better implementation, that's all. Cheers.
Perhaps it can be better implemented. But essentially I believe the idea Aramec had for this was for it to be an experiment. The question of "What happens when you give five writers exclusive control over WHPR for a day each?".
I'm sure he is watching this as intently as I am to see the final results. If you still aren't the most fond of the idea of it come the time of voting for a winner to take the prize, I'm sure your feedback would be valuable. It would likely affect if any future term includes any kind of "unheard of" events like this, or at least how it is gone about.
good article. unsubbed
★★★★ Baaaa ★★★★
Why are we using the WHPR as CHS's soap box?
actually it is the Stupid F-ck Party spokesman, kinda makes it all the the Silly Fiends Problem
Your obsession is cute. Hugs n Kisses, Pumpkin!
Hell hath no fury like a pumpkin scorned. Sorry it didn't work out.
What's the dill?
Let him in.

congratulations, Commander Mike Ontry
Support for dilly; let him in.
Terrible use of a National newspaper. An idiotic FS rant is no way to waste a WHPR edition. FS puts out more than enough of his idiosy in his own paper, it wasn't needed here.
If you feel his submission for Madness Week was sub-par i suggest you vote with your, well, vote. Come this weekend you can vote for your favorite article, the winners gets a 5 gold prize. Give your support to whom you feel deserves the prize most.
Oh its not sub-par. It's the same as every other Franklin Stone rant he's ever written. So it's not that his quality has dipped, there's never been any quality to his choice of subject matter in the first place. It's that this paper was not the place to publish a Franklin rant. Whoever thought that this wouldn't be the drivel he would write shows a complete lack of judgment and respect for a government newspaper.
No one expected anything of him actually. Madness week is about handing WHPR over to five individual writers, (I asked party leaders to provide me with one of their choice. Jude recommended Franklin, Feds recommended the current SoH, for example) and letting them do literally whatever they want with an article of their own. That's a highly compressed paraphrase of what I was told to orchestrate.
One of the selected writers could fill the sheet with nothing but pictures of food, according to the event. But they clearly would not get the votes to win the prize for that.
