Topic 01 : Battles [Guide and Tips]
Arcaian
Now there are a lot of discussions happening just about everywhere on the forums. I know some players don't like the forums, and some players don't know where they are. If this gets upvoted, more people will see it here than on the forums, so hopefully it goes well!
As a country that has been fighting wars for 5 years, you would think we would have a player base that has a larger knowledge of fighting, and a lot of records and guides on how to fight properly, easily available to encourage our new players to fight in the resistance wars (RWs) that we've been fighting for so long.
But no, we don't. I've only recently joined the new Aussie forums, and haven't been given access to most of them yet. But if they are hidden in the Aussie forums, they're not in an easy to find area for new players. Considering how badly we need the new players that are constantly coming in, this seems odd to me. So the point of this article is to - hopefully - start some discussion about battles - when to fight, how to fight, what food should be used, what weapons should be used, etc.
Some of this is explained in the more recent Department of Defence (DoD) articles. None of it is very indepth, but I'm going to start with a story of what I just did. But first, a cat!
I just joined a military unit today. I needed to kill 10 players to became a fully-fledged member of the unit, so I went to the only available battleground (from the NT) - India was defending against Taiwan. I popped in to get my 10 kills, then my 25 for the daily order. By the end of that, I had pushed the bar back to Taiwans side - India was winning. I figured I would see how long I could keep it up - the end result was I stayed up untill 2am when I was going to sleep at 12, and this happene😛
I had ended up dealing 580,000 damage defending India. Mostly because I was having a competition with the #2 damager on the Indian side to see who could do the most damage. Talking to him made me start thinking about how there is more to the battles than just clicking fight. So, I decided to write this. (In hindsight, putting that much damage into a battle that isn't for eAus is a bad idea, but it was 12:30am)
There are a few key areas you need to think about when fighting. The first is your food supply - you can't fight effectively if you can't recover your health. This requires food - there are 7 types of food (Q1-Q7). As you go up in quality, you go up in price. If you're looking purely for the best value, Q1 food gives you the most bang for your buck! Q1 food is the most efficient for the price - but you can only hold 1000 units of produce on you at any point, unless you build more storage places. This means that if you find a really good deal on weapons, you can't hold all the weapons you could buy, or if you find a good deal on food, you can't hold enough. In general, Q1 food is the most efficient (in current eAus circumstances) and thats what you should be using.
The second choice is your weapon - before I go into detail, a relavant cat:
As that poor cat has found out, it is indeed a difficult choice to pick a weapon. As with food, there are Q1-Q7 weapons. As the quality of a weapon increases, it's damage increases and the amount of uses it has before it breaks increases. Be careful - the uses isn't equal to the amount of times you press the attack button. The higher your strength and the better weapon you have, the quicker you kill your opponent. Every attack against an opponent removes 10 health from you, and one use from your weapon. Pressing the attack button will attack untill you have defeated your enemy or do not have enough health to attack again. You can tell how many turns it took for you to kill your enemy by the amount of health you lose - if you lost 30 health, it took 3 turns, so you lost 3 durability for your weapon.
Compared to food, Q7 weapons are the best choice, if you can afford them. Although they are much more expensive, they last much longer, and you kill your enemies MUCH quicker, so you take less turns to kill your enemy, so you get even more uses out of a single weapon. They do cost a lot - if you join a Military Unit (MU) they will generally give you supplies (food and weapons). In return, you fight for your countries enemies.
There are also special weapons - bazookas are special weapons you get from defeating enemies and completing the daily orders that your military unit sets. They do 10,000 damage to a single target, and give you 10,000 battle influence. Then there are bombs and rockets - both are hard to aquire weapons that give you the ability to do massive amounts of damage in a single strike. Use them sparingly!
Once you know all this, you're ready to start fighting! But an important question is when to fight? Sadly, fighting all the time isn't the best thing. Don't be this cat all the time!
Battles work funnily in eRepublik. There is a central bar - think of it as how much your country controls. If it is over 50%, you earn domination points every minute - the numbers on the top left and top right of the screen. The top left is your countries domination points, the top right is you opponents domination points. The aim is to get to 1800 domination points before the enemy does - as only one country can have the central bar over 50% at any point in time, it is a battle to keep the bar over 50%. An important point here is that the amount it is over 50% by makes no difference. Having 100% dominance of the battle or 51% gives you the same amount of domination points. The only factor that affects how many points you're getting is how long the battle has been going for - the longer the battle has been going, the more points you get.
This means that if you're going to fight, make sure that the battle doesn't have a dominance of over 60% to your country - you're wasting your time! Fight in a battle where the dominance is under 60%, and your country will benefit from it. This is one of the most important tips for battling!
Thats what I would call the starting point for battles - some points could be elaborated on, and some points aren't mentioned yet, but if you have that in mind when you're fighting, you will do well.

And thanks to writing this article, it's now 3am. Sleep time! 😃
A question I have never found an answer to yet. Does the damage our side does - does that have to be exceeded by the other side to move the bar.
eg say Australian players do 1 million damage, and the enemy does 990,000 does the bar stay in our favour till thy do 1,000,010 ?

yes i think it works like in your example. how should the domination-bar move if not like this?
and everytime one minute is passing the side which has the domination will get points depending on the time of the battle
see
http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Battle#Battles
thats why most coordinated hits will come at the end of the battle to get the domination in the endgame and much quicker the needed points to win the battle
"As a country that has been fighting wars for 5 years, you would think we would have a player base that has a larger knowledge of fighting, and a lot of records and guides... But no, we don't."
in germany they have a book-shelf at the end of each ministry article
example
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/2184038/1/20
it has small pics with each one containing a link to the forum, irc, some guides or important papers
in the middle you have "Die Deutschland Bibliothek" (the german library) which is a ministry of community article filled with links to more guides
dunno how it is done in australia...
Well I assumed it worked that way eisenmutter, but I was not really sure.
And to be honest I had never asked before - sadly I was sort of happy in my ignorance.
I am really impressed with how Germany has set out its library - even the look is very professional & appealing.
I wish we had something like that here - maybe it is a goal to work towards

i think the hardest is not to built a library the hardest is to keep track what is changed over time by admins so you can update the guides or write new ones if new stuff is implemented
some stuff that is needed
basics
- how to write an article (with all special stuff like multiple pics next to each other and pics with links)
- how to work
- how to fight
- recommendations for newbies how to start the game, investments, what to do/not to do
- how to join a party and MU
communication
- how to use irc
- how to reach the forum
- abbreviations and their meaning
be smart in economy
- products
- companies
- monetary market
politics
- how to get into congress (+ duties if elected)
- duties of party-presidents (making the congress-candidates-list, inform the new candidates about naturalization proceedings and whatnot)
- government / ministries and what they do
- current contracts of the country with other countries
military
- recommendations for getting battleheros
- warefare (what regions can be attacked, RW-rules etc)
- trainingcenters and how to use/update them smart
other interesting links
for example
- private initiatives (gold loans for updates, food-donation-charity stuff)
- http://egov4you.info/ and damage-calculators and stuff
some of these will have to be updated quite often (like recommendations how to begin the game) some will be good as long as there are no major changes of the modules (like how to invest on MM or how to fight)
Thanks Eisen - you're really helping us today! Thats a good list... we could set it as a goal? I can help write some of them, but I'll need to research some before I can write them (Congress duties... I don't know what they do at the moment 😛). But if it'll help, I'm free to write them 🙂
@Arcaian: try here: http://community.auserepublik.com/index.php?board=12.0
as far as i know the new battle guide and tips from our beloved so called leaders for all EAUS is to fight for other countries and not to fight for EAUSTRALIA.
WA is supposed to be returned to us 3/1 cr1so.
Hold off to see if that is the case. If they renege then be prepared to go all out on them
Yeah, we're meant to be waiting till the 3rd of January, then starting to resistance war. But it's fine by me - I think diplomacy is a good point to try, we've tried other things before. I'm fine to wait 3 days to get a guarentee to get the region back!
actually when does the third start? Chile & Australia are on opposite sides of the International Date Line
As WA is in Australia & today is 1/1 - I am assuming the day after tomorrow
Yeah, thats what I presumed at least.
Excellent again - thanks for all the effort.
