History of Media, Part 1

No, there's no actual history here, who do you think I am, Gnilraps?

Since joining this game the media module has remained essentially the same. At some point Plato deigned us worthy of knowing how many subscribers we have, and made it possible to write articles in game without losing them every ten minutes. He also fucks with the graphics every few months but basically, Media has stayed the same.

Really, out of all of the modules, Media is the least important. Nobody is spending the big bucks to tank in Media, nobody controls a country from their paper, no matter how much I'd like that to be the case, and as of yet, Plato hasn't instituted a system where you can buy votes with real currency, though I'm sure it's coming soon.

This puts the media in an odd position, ignored by Admins, and by political minded players alike the Top 5 becomes an odd place, filled with propaganda aimed at the two clickers who actually read and the last ramblings of the insane.

And Gutenberg sai😛 let there be MU recruitment articles

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying there's no value for media, nor that there's no value for well written media. I'm saying there's no value for good media. The importance of media presence during a campaign was made incredibly clear during last month's CP election. The importance of media during a presidency was made quite clear by the lack thereof during mine. There will always be a place for political writing, and there will always be a need for educational articles. But there's rarely a demand for analysis, humor or anything worthwhile to an active involved player. Most elite players I talk to don't bother reading; Tenshibo once told me he ctrl-fs articles for his name. Since then my articles have mentioned him with at least a 400% increase in frequency.

It's not really their fault, there's rarely anything worth reading. There's rarely much incentive. I'd like to change that, I can't offer much in terms of cash, and Plato certainly won't help me, but I can recognize you, and I'm sure my loyal reader will aid me in this endeavor.

Without further ado, I present to you:

The GBM Pulitzer Prize

For excellence in: Let's be honest, amusing me

This non-prestigious prize, awarded whenever Grand Poobah Paul Proteus finds media to be lacking, entails nothing but a mention. Still, revel in the fact that you're article was special, it entertained people, made someone's day better. And if you didn't win, that just means you need to write more, because even if I don't notice you, someone will. The media may be one of the most ignored modules, but it's also one of the most resiliant, and the most democratized. Join me in writing, and in recognizing the other idiots those foolish enough who do so.
