PILOT : EPISODE 101 : LOVE IS STRANGE
(All the aussie media is filled with constant bickering these days, so enjoy a funny mocking of a Soap!)

Irule opens a large wooden door and enters the restaurant. The music is loud and the night is young.

“Over here, Irule!” shoi exclaims, waving his arms to catch Irule’s attention.

Irule waves back and walks right past the host. He immediately takes a seat at shoi’s table, ready to enjoy what he can of the night. He’s got news to break and shoi surely won’t take it well.

“How are you?” Irule asks.

“Oh fantastic! I had the most fabulous day. I was so excited for tonight!” shoi exclaims, his eyes glimmering. “How about you?”

“Oh... Well I had a pretty good day.” He says, palms now sweating. “I... I have something to tell you, shoi.”

“Hmm? Well let’s hear it then!” shoi replies with a cheerful smile on his face.

“I’m sorry, but there’s someone else, shoi...” Irule starts. “I didn’t mean for it to get serious between us, but... Well... I’m just sorry!”

“What!?”

“I’m engaged to Molly Jo, shoi!” Irule screams. “I’m sorry!” He says, tearing up. Shoi’s look is filled with astonishment and traces of pure hatred. Irule sits quietly with his head bowed in shame. Shoi promptly gets up and without one word leaves the restaurant, cursing him out under his breath on the way. His angry tirade is accompanied by the ever-so-slight turn of the lips as he slams the wooden door and feels the cool outside air.

Outside on the cold metallic bench, shoi fiddles with a small plastic bottle inside his pocket. He brings it up to his eyes and begins to cry and weep loudly. A nearby walking man notices and stops to comfort shoi.

“Excuse me?” Scottty says. “Are you alright?”

“No! My date just left me!” Shoi says screaming, his voice strained with agony.

“Oh my, I’m so sorry. Is there anything I could do to help?” Scottty says comfortingly.

“Not unless you can marry me and make my life complete!” Shoi says while weeping loudly. Scottty stands for a moment and ponders in silence.

---

Irule finally stands from the table being sure to wipe all the tears from under his eyes with a nearby napkin. It’s been a rough night and he decides it’s time to head home and get a nice beer and enjoy a night with his new fiance.

Irule walks out of the restaurant still feeling crummy. He quietly pays the waiter and heads home to Molly.

“Hello sweety!” Molly yells as he walks in the apartment door and tosses his coat in the general direction of the hanger, missing badly. “Where’ve you been?”

“Just out for a quick errand,” Irule replies casually. “What do you say we have a nice beer and relax on the couch?”

“Oh you know I’m not a big drinker.” Molly says. “But you enjoy.” She then returns to cleaning and working elsewhere in the apartment.

Irule lays down on the couch and attempts to soak his mind into the football game and Dancing with the Stars. But no matter what he does he can’t keep his mind from wandering back to shoi. Even the commercials remind Irule of shoi’s beloved pink lemonade and vanilla ice cream.

“I shouldn’t have ended it...” Irule thinks. He promptly gets up and finds a phone immediately and types in shoi’s number. The number rings for several minutes and Irule finally gives up. He waits until later to call back.

“Hello?” Shoi answers quietly.

“Shoi! It’s me, Irule!” Irule yells into the receiver. “I’m sorry! I really am! Please take me back, I was being stupid!”

Irule hears the silent beeping tone and realizes that he’s been shouting into a dead line the entire time. He takes the phone and slams it back down into the receiver, night instantly ruined. He now knows he needs to find a way out of this engagement with Molly and he’s determined to get shoi back.

---

Shoi walks into the kitchen for a midnight snack and sees the answering machine glowing with a new message. Shoi plays over Irule’s frantic message and instantly feels absolutely awful. He takes a coffee and sits down tiredly at his small kitchen table, lethargically stirring the creams into his bitter drink.

“Coming to bed, shoi?” Scottty yells.

“Yeah, just needed a quick drink...” Shoi says quietly, his mind filled with guilt. He sips the coffee quietly, and his mind fades off as he falls asleep, coffee half-finished.
