eUSA Defensive Dictatorship

Greetings!

Welcome back readers. A few days ago you learned about the Dictatorship module and how it has been viewed by a majority of the eWorld. This episode will bring you eUSA’s stance towards this new game feature. Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Defensive Dictatorship

In 2015 erepublik was introduced to two new game features. One was the Resource Wars and the other was the Dictatorship.

On February 27th, 2015, 7:35am, politicians began to work tirelessly on legislation.
eUSA Congress member gnilraps starts a discussion.
Installing the current Country President (CP) as in game Dictator

In a rambling thread filled with several bad ideas, much trolling, misinformation, and other common congress ****ery, the idea has been raised about moving our ingame government into a Dictatorship. In this thread, we will debate the merits of this system ONLY. If you have other options, start your own thread. - gnilraps (former CP, current congress member)

This soon became the most controversial topic in eUSA since a big event like The Unexpected Tide of Erepublik. The idea of subjugating eUSA willingly to an uncommon type of government sounds ludicrous, but there were some level headed arguments as to why it can be seen as a good style to adopt. Here are some examples of what is at risk if we leave ourselves susceptible to a foreign dictatorship:

If a foreign military unit decided to attack eUSA and install its own Dictator, it could wreak havoc on the current system. For example,
- the Dictator can change ANY law and be the only vote required to do so.
- the Dictator can approve citizenship to anyone they want.
- all eUSA’s orgs would be turned over to that one individual. This is inclusive to all the money in those orgs. The Congressional Budget Office, where Congress sends its tax money, carries millions of country currency (cc) each day.
- the Department of Education (THIS PAPER YOU’RE READING RIGHT NOW), and numerous other orgs that run our weekly government programs, would be torched.
- tax money can be diverted to the Dictator. Yes, the Dictator would spend $200,000 + cc to start a coup and take over eUSA, but they would profit that much money per week if they were in charge. Yes, the Dictator could take the tax money and use it AGAINST eUSA!
- taxes can be raised to 25% which would be a burden on its citizens. (Current tax rate is 8%.)
- Mutual Protection Pacts (MPP), our Pacifica alliance would be gone.

On February 28th, 2015 Congress voted on installing a dictatorship.
Using the Dictatorship Module as a Defense Against Foreign Dictator was adopted into eUSA law.
=
Yeas: 28 - 55%
Nays: 21 - 41%
Abstentions: 2 - 4%
Total Votes: 51

Quorum was met and, after Congressional approval of course, eUSA used tax funds to install its first Country President / Dictator (CP/D) Wild Owl and the United States Armed Forces (USAF) was the official Military Unit (MU) in charge of the eUSA Defensive Dictatorship.

At what cost?

Overall, there are some pretty compelling reasons why eUSA would want to avoid a foreign military take over, right? So, what are the cons of installing our own ‘friendly’ dictator?

Democracy would be gone, sort of. Largely, eUSA would look slave to appearances, and rather silly considering its one of the most Democratic countries in real life, but logically eUSA quickly adapted to a new erepublik game mechanic. For posterity’s sake, eUSA has operated for over five years with a meta government on the eUSA Forums. So, nothing really changed for meta politics. Essentially, congress members would still be elected, a Country President would still be elected, but they would have no in game buttons to click. They would not win gold for being elected. Plato will have taken away even more gold from its players like he did with True Patriot, Freedom Fighter and Mercenary medals. Overall, Plato is winning the war against its players who play this game for free and don’t use credit cards. Yes, a Democratically elected CP/D, one single player, possesses complete control to the entire eUSA, but would still have to respect its Congress members.

Here is what a couple of our citizens had to say about our eUSA Defensive Dictatorship.

Dictator module is a like being branded with an American flag shaped, iron.
We are all cattle. We are just being corralled.
YEE HAW!
- Ghost of Tom Joad (former Congress member)

I am very against America being under a dictatorship of any kind. It is my belief that America's military is more than capable of defending America. To me the argument that it gives America a 10 day buffer is lame and shows that our current government is so lazy that remaining vigilant is beyond their abilities. Although I feel that the Defensive Dictatorship should be overthrown that desire to be rid of a Dictator must come from American citizens through their parties by putting like minded citizens into Congress. - Franklin Stone (former Congress member)

Its an interesting gamble to take with Democracy. Do we trust one player to abide by meta rules? Well, its been nearly six months and the country has so far gone by unscathed by foreign hostilities. eUSA has elected, democratically, three different CP/D’s named Wild Owl, Trekker Tlumac and Tyler Bubblar.

★★★ PRESTIGE WORLDWIDE ★★★

Despite a few internal politically fueled hiccups, and loopholes in the meta law, eUSA has managed to maintain its full bonuses of resources, continue hold in its colonies and still obtain the facade of a Democratic system despite wearing Plato’s Dictatorship hat.

Here is what a few of our citizens had to say in support of the eUSA Defensive Dictatorship.

It’s goooooood! - Garmr (Congress member, Secretary of Defense)

The Defensive Dictatorship is good. END OPINION. - Oblige (Congress member, professional whale)

The defensive dictatorship is more of a warning system than a way to prevent foreign takeover. By creating a defensive dictator we are able to give ourselves a warning about the threat of a hostile takeover of our democracy. Whether that threat be authoritarians foreign or domestic, this law clearly preserves our democratically elected government and our nation as a whole. As the Speaker of the House who helped guide the passage of this law I am very proud of the security it has provided the eUS. - SColbert (Congress member, Press Secretary, former Speaker of the House)

The road ahead

eUSA will not be quiet. Citizens and Politicians will continue to fight for what they believe in. Whether its for a logical installation of defense or a real life politically charged movement, our players will continue to approve and object for what they believe in.

...because in the end, that is what being eAmerican is all about.

Sincerely,
Department of Education
