[Congress] End/Beginning of term report!

Day 1,832, 23:43 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Lord Lewis Cromwell

Hi everybody!

With elections closing and the votes pretty much set, our congress seats are shifting and this month it looks like many of the positions will have different and new bums sitting on them! This is a great thing for our national team and I wish all those elected in this term the best of luck in dealing with things, especially as the holidays approach and distractions are so readily available (put down that eggnog, Cheetah, you have work to do!).

I'd just like to summarise the past month to try and help everyone get themselves running as best as possible, and hopefully we can have an even more productive month than before and all our new congressmen can approach things confidently!

Citizenships
Last month we saw the standing-down of Iain Keers as Minister/Overlord of Immigration, with a new system proposed by himself to both fill the gap and hopefully secure a more open, representative method of ensuring that citizens accepted into our national team are introduced for our nation's benefit without risk. You can read more about this proposal here, here and the passing vote here.

This proposal was passed with 20 congressmen from a variety of parties registering a positive vote, 3 negative and 5 abstaining from voting, therefore with 40 congressmen total it is a democratically elected system (due to the 5 abstains making 20 the majority) and if you do disagree with how it is intended to be run, this is the will of the people and discussion/proposals for anything you think is better is always, always welcome. I didn't like this, personally, and voted against it, but as a responsible member of congress and representative of the people accept that the votes matter and to uphold the very eligibility of any voting process must respect that and wholeheartedly urge our new congress to do the same, or vote something better in.

MPP's
This past month we've extended MPP's with the following countries:
Lithuania, Slovakia, Latvia, Indonesia, Estonia
Bulgaria, South Korea, Poland, Mexico, Spain
Hungary, Chile, Serbia, Slovenia

We're due to renew our Macedonian, Lithuanian and Slovakian MPP's in the coming weeks, with more to follow but you will all be contacted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and so won't need to do anything except consider your votes! These are great allies though!

Threats to eUK!
We found out that there's a few guys in Russia who don't like us (they love EDEN, an alliance we have always fought against) and so earlier this month were surprised with a Natural Enemy (NE) vote initiated against us and consequent NE proposal back at them. Luckily their warmongers are a minority and our faithful allies Hungary intended to defend us which scared Russia off, and so war was averted. This month we may want to consider the effect this has, as from that situation we can see that we do have friends in Russia, even if they're not in the CP chair right now.

Had I been writing this at this time yesterday, the paragraph would've ended there! However, one of our congressmen expressed his right to propose a NE law, this time against the heavily down-trodden neighbour of our's Norway. While this un-planned proposal is likely to fail (NE proposals need 66% majority to initiate war) the after-effects of the action remain. With confirmation all around that it has drawn unnecessary attention to us as a less-than-caring nation, and some relations with our neighbours extremely fragile, our new "threats" are as displaye😛

As you can see, we're very fortunate to have a rock-solid south provided by our allies Poland and Belgium, who are both very unlikely to attack as well as are keeping France (always a high risk) at bay, USA are busy and with Norway's weakened state (thanks to Russia) a retaliation from them is just as unlikely. However, Canada, Ireland, Russia and Germany may now see a valid reason to attack and so do once again pose a moderate risk to us, forsaking all the work our guys have done in trying to improve relations lately.

War is not the end of the world, though, but it will not help our community to be beaten once again, especially as many of our allies are currently needing our help in order to establish themselves again in this period of worldwide fluctuating alliances. Our allies are good to us, we will be no good to them if we are shafted by rash decisions, so again I'll urge our incoming congress to discuss ideas and weigh up the consequences before making solitary decisions.

Opportunities for resources
Unfortunately, our options for resources are very limited. The only available resource that doesn't require rather unsustainable expansion (for a country currently our size) is fruits from Ireland, which ultimately doesn't benefit us very much (Food Raw Materials, FRM, is already dirt cheap in our economy) and so it kind of makes sense for us to continue our great work on improving our military potential through our MU's and growing as a nation, together, before we make any grandiose plans for resource grabbing.

Maintaining a defensive, secure and highly valuable position in order to continue growth can not only secure our existing resources but also provide our allies with firepower when needed. Our CP is constantly looking at options for homeland wars, for training or otherwise, and so adopting continued patience (the reason we have so many fantastic allies and can have our unhindered freedom as a nation) seems the most logical choice. Again, though, you are the new congress and may disagree with me, I just want to give information.

Me
I've been growing increasingly ill lately and am quite happy to miss this upcoming month from congress, especially with the holiday season approaching and so many candidates with great potential! However, if anyone needs any advice or help just drop me a PM and I'll help as best I can, otherwise good luck to all our congressmen new and old, and remember e-UK > e-you, k?

Be cool, stay cool
