[aSC] The first 7 days

Day 1,679, 02:35 Published in China China by mihail.cazacu

As some people know, I was elected assistant Supreme Commander last Sunday.

Here are some ideas worth sharing after the first 7 days in office.

There are a lot of things which need to be improved in order to face the new challenges Plato threw at us lately (the division system, the weapons of mass destruction, the rise of new alliances, etc).

The first thing in our control is to improve the communication at the alliance level.

We have several official channels so it looks like we have everything in place. However many of the official channels are used for emergency communication, when the crap has already hit the fan. The can of worms was opened, the toothpaste was out of the tube and we have to scramble in panic to fix things.

So the first simple step is to make sure we intercept any potentially dangerous situation before it goes beyond repair.

In order to do that we decided to make sure the Country Presidents have a fixed day when they will always meet and discuss alliance-wide issues: every Sunday at 11:00 eRepublik time.

What is decided there, plus whatever else pops-up in-between, will be followed up at Ministries of Defense (MoDs) level every Tuesday, also at 11:00 eRepublik time, on the military channel.

The military channel was the most widely used anyway, and the weekly meeting of the Ministries of Defense is already a tradition. What we are doing is to integrate it with the Country Presidents meeting on Sunday and to have a clear military Big Picture to pass to the Foreign Affairs department next days.

Finally, on every Thursday we will have the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MoFAs) meeting to discuss EDEN-wide diplomacy and to synchronize the diplomatic activities with the military ones.

Having the Country Presidents meet on Sundays, the MoDs on Tuesdays and the MoFAs on Thursdays ensures we have a stable structure which guarantees increased coherence and synchronization.

However the more astute readers must have realized that the process of regular Country Presidents meetings, followed by MoD meetings and by MoFA meetings has an additional benefit:

They put the strategic decisions back in the hands of the member countries, which now have the possibility to shape the key decisions at all the 3 levels: Country Presidents, MoDs and MoFAs.

Putting TEAM back into TEAMWORK

We are now at the beginning of a new way of working together, so I expect we will have some hiccups in the beginning, until we become familiar with the new way of making the decisions Bottom Up instead of Top Down.

In the same time I expect the functioning of the alliance to improve a lot, since the member countries would see their priorities aligned through teamwork instead of through executive decisions from the top.

We will have an interesting month of July ahead, to grow stronger and closer together. Let's enjoy every minute of it!
