You make me sad sometimes America.

"Do you ever go into a fight thinking there's no point giving my best, I'll get another chance later? We only ever get one shot, Marlin. Life is one shot. Making it count is all that matters."
– on Shadrac to Sergeant Marlin of the Xth Slavok Regiment

I found that quote while perusing some items to purchase for another past time of mine. As soon as I saw it, I thought of the war here. The last few weeks have been rough. There has been infighting, PTO/ATO activity, multiple losses on the battlefield, and even an article on the merits of surrender.

Really?

Really?

Listen, I'm a nobody. Just a dude going out, fighting and trying to reclaim some of what we've lost. I've gone out of my way to learn the current events in politics, war, and have stepped up to do what I can for our armed forces and for our nation. Do I know it all? Of course not. But I know that all of the issues I mentioned above are not helping.

Well, with the exception of the ATO stuff. I'll give you that, that was important.

It seems to me that a lot of people have just given up and would rather point fingers. Everyone is looking to the next guy to step up and try to make things right. Looking for some kind of magic bullet to make the big bad poles go away. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. You can blast how our military and government works all you want. Complain about funding, taxes, political stagnation, whatever. We have some issues America, but the biggest seems to be our mental attitude.

This war sucks. Surprise! I know, you are shocked. What sucks even worse is that we have the capacity to break the chains holding us down, come back swinging, and would rather have a mental exercise on surrender. Oh yes, we have the means and ability to get back on our feet and secure our nation. But, lets consider surrender instead because we are tired of losing. That to me seems like a "taking my ball and going home" sort of attitude.

I know I'm a nobody. But to the few people who actually read these ramblings of a little eSoldier out there on the front lines, please take this to heart. It's time to step up. We need to put all of the shenanigans to the side for a while, and get down to business. Surrender isn't a good choice, nor is gutting our government funded military. Yes, we have a hard road in front of us. Who cares how we got here, or who's fault it is? What matters is moving forward one step at a time, giving your best, and fighting like its our last shot at being a free and proud nation.

Because we might not get another chance. Go on and take your best shot.
