Editor’s Notes:
Congress Overrules the President on Russia
by OMFG Editor George Armstrong Custer
eUS Congress shows "The Ravishing Russian" Lana the door.

First reported at length in Official US Media in the Day 3130 edition of the USAF Newsletter, the US decided to not renew its regular MPP with Russia. The Day 3131 edition of The Speaker's Word detailed Congress' Vote, and its Constitutional instruction to our President/Dictator (CP/D) Yui MCHP001 to Reject Russia's in game Proposal.

A week later, CP/D Yui published an article expressing personal regret for breaking US relations with Russia. This prompted a revival of the Russia Relations thread in Congress (reply #118), in which Congress reasserted its view that ending MPP with Russia was the correct thing to do.

At the time, and until just hours before publication time, the Discussion for this had been Private. It has now been moved to Public Congress for all to see.
By now, the Discussion has gone to a Vote (framed as "to MPP Russia"), and that has been completed, with Congress standing squarely against the President. There will be no MPP with Russia.

However, any really good story has a plot twist.
While the Discussion thread was still active, about to move to Vote, and with sentiment clearly showing against the President's position, CP/D Yui posted an in game Proposal for an MPP with Russia. Russia's Congress voted overwhelmingly to Accept the US olive branch. Then the US Congress vote came in and Yui was Constitutionally forced to Reject the US end of his own Proposal.

While on the surface, this must look like the US taunted Russia with a disingenuous offer. It does look bad. But remember, Yui opposed dropping the MPP, in an article and in (admittedly, lightweight) arguments to Congress. His position is one more of diplomatic sentiment than the more bottom-line arguments of Foreign Affairs experts. Yui's in game MPP Proposal was intended to show Congress that Russia was not hostile toward the US. In the end, Congress overruled him.

Contacted for comment, President Yui told the WHPR, "I hoped that we could have fixed the problems we had with Russia, but I didn't approach it the right way."

Mea Culpa
by OMFG Editor George Armstrong Custer

Canada successfully repels an attempted Coup by EZC

I'm going to break the "fourth wall" of what passes for professional journalism, here, to deliver a personal message to our readers, my OMFG staff, Executive Cabinet members and our President.

Yesterday, I was approached by a ranking Easy Company member with news that EZC would be leading a Coup attempt on the Canadian President. Details were explained to me that, if they are to be public knowledge, I am not the one to present them. To me, it all looked good, and I anxiously awaited the start of the Coup, quit my MU and joined theirs, and fought.. I even won a Battle Hero. Yay, me.

All this is fine. Any citizen has the right to do these things... well, unless the Coup is against the US, in which case Congress will make unhappy noises, but that's not applicable, here.

What's not fine is the action I took as Secretary of Media.
I am entrusted by our President to run nearly all official government newspapers, most notable among them this White House Press Report (WHPR). I am extremely prideful of this, and my skinny little chest puffs out every time I explain that the WHPR is the voice and face of the President and the White House, and that we must represent our country and its Executive in the most professional manner and positive light at all times.

Further, the trust endowed to me is to such an extent that I do not submit any work for approval before publication. I don't work like that, and any Executive I work for accepts me under those terms. I know what's right or not right for official government media, and will always represent our nation properly and professionally.

Except for yesterday.
Well, I've made big mistakes before.. I can recall a few times when I've gotten one official government newspaper or another suspended by Plato for illegal content, and a time when I took heat for using the WHPR as a political campaign outlet for a sitting President.
So it's not my first offense. That doesn't help my case any.

On my own, without authorization or checking with the President, even ignoring respected advice to tone it down a bit, I developed and published an edition of the WHPR to promote the Coup against Canada. I knew even as I wrote it up that I was well overstepping my bounds, and published anyways.

I was wrong, dead wrong. I abused the extraordinary degree of privilege given me as Secretary of Media. I showed extremely poor judgement, and set a poor example for my staff and future SecMeds.
I f---ed up. I am sorry.

I have since deleted that article, and place myself at the mercy of my President.
