True Patriotism
Marmaduke IV
What does it mean to be a patriot? Is it merely a mental complex? Or does it require action of some sort. In this case, I think the game differs from the real world. In the real world, you don't have to fight for your country to be patriotic. But in erepublik, you always fight. So the question isn't whether or not you are fighting, but who you are fighting for (and against).
We may not have the best military out there. We certainly don't actually, due to massive disorganization and bureaucracy. But what part of eSA isn't disorganized and bureaucratic? Last I checked our motto is "Deurmekaar soos die hel".
As an individual citizen, you have the right to fight for who you want. You can be a fool and fight for Brazil, a traitor and fight for Turkey, or unloved by your parents and fight for miscellaneous former Yugoslavic republics. That's your choice, if you so choose.
But members of federal government, the rules are different. As a public servant, you are elected to.... serve the public and serve the country. NOT foreign countries or random PTO groups that just happen to give out weapons. Treason is a word that is not thrown around nearly enough these days.
Which brings me to the boiling point.
As commander in chief of the eSAAF, the president should be fighting FOR the eSAAF. I am utterly disgusted by this. It's bad enough to see our citizens betraying our country for places like Australia and and the United States, but to see our own president joining the FYROMians, who seek the plunder the wealth of this country's banks is disgusting to say the least. He is bed with foreign interests for nothing more than person gain in the form of tanks.
My jimmies are rustled. How about yours?
I'd like to hear citizen opinion on the matter. Do you think members of the government have a duty to fight for the eSAAF?

People don't have to switch MUs if they don't want to. Some have loyalties to private MUs and have the right to be members of those MUs if they wish.
Hail DB & FYROM friendship.

Look at this battle If you want to know what FYROMians do when Turks are coming.
eSAAF is just an MU, one that doesn't even give that great of supplies, I don't see why I should have to limit my fighting ability to be apart of "the government MU."
I get better supplies with less hassle in the MU I am currently in.
Supplies? What are supplies? I buy my own weapons and food.
Where do you draw the line? Does that mean we expect congressmen to resign their MU on election and re-join their choice once term complete? Plain unnecessary in my opinion. My choice of MU has nothing to with my politics, like in esaaf if I do not like an order I simply do not follow, no matter my MU.
Good read.
The CP actually isn't Chief of Command of eSAAF. Whether you want to call it technically, unofficially or officially, Grimstone runs eSAAF. eSAAF has for much of its recent years as MU become a private MU. It has made a lot of collaboration deals, but many of its administrators and probably big part of the HC have interests elsewhere.
I don't take anyone joining "foreign" MUs insulting. On the contrary, logistics is one of the most important parts of a MU and if people feel they're better equiped fighting for Mambas then it's totally legit, as long as their DO is relevant to eSA's safety and sovereignty.
Other than eSAAF I have to agree with you. It seems that patriotism is largely frowned upon as eSA is conforming to the norms set by bigger countries. eBrazil and whoever stands to oppress us won't appreciate seeing THE PEOPLE unified. Neither will the Macedonians or Lazos.
The CP is the Commander if Chief though by law (Military Leadership Act of December 2010; Amended June 2011), although the day to day things are done by the eSAAF commander. But I agree that President should be allowed in a different MU as long as it's not a MU that is fighting against eSA's interest
I can't remember when I last saw a CP acting as Commander in Chief, but yes, it's a law.
I remember in my time CP also idled in eSAAF command channel, I dont know if thats still the case these days.
In addition I must admit that I've seen no set definition of all the Commander in Chief's responsibilities, so from my observations I may have attached certain things to the Chief that might not have been his responsibility.
Look who is talking the guy that when created the account said that he will PTO this country one more time and when we didn't wanted to be a part of that he started to talk that we are PTOing this country.
If you are talking about patriotism , I wish to see your name on that list too. I'm fighting for only eSA and her allies. The MU shouldn't have been a matter.
