True Patriotism

Day 2,003, 15:22 Published in South Africa South Africa by Marmaduke IV

What does it mean to be a patriot? Is it merely a mental complex? Or does it require action of some sort. In this case, I think the game differs from the real world. In the real world, you don't have to fight for your country to be patriotic. But in erepublik, you always fight. So the question isn't whether or not you are fighting, but who you are fighting for (and against).

We may not have the best military out there. We certainly don't actually, due to massive disorganization and bureaucracy. But what part of eSA isn't disorganized and bureaucratic? Last I checked our motto is "Deurmekaar soos die hel".

As an individual citizen, you have the right to fight for who you want. You can be a fool and fight for Brazil, a traitor and fight for Turkey, or unloved by your parents and fight for miscellaneous former Yugoslavic republics. That's your choice, if you so choose.

But members of federal government, the rules are different. As a public servant, you are elected to.... serve the public and serve the country. NOT foreign countries or random PTO groups that just happen to give out weapons. Treason is a word that is not thrown around nearly enough these days.

Which brings me to the boiling point.

As commander in chief of the eSAAF, the president should be fighting FOR the eSAAF. I am utterly disgusted by this. It's bad enough to see our citizens betraying our country for places like Australia and and the United States, but to see our own president joining the FYROMians, who seek the plunder the wealth of this country's banks is disgusting to say the least. He is bed with foreign interests for nothing more than person gain in the form of tanks.

My jimmies are rustled. How about yours?

I'd like to hear citizen opinion on the matter. Do you think members of the government have a duty to fight for the eSAAF?
