The pawn

the powers of the pawn
David Solway, The Powers of the Pawn

I have to admit that chess is not my favourit game. I haven`t played it since ages, but I remember clearly the day I learnt to play it. I and my friend, who was teaching me the intricate rules of that very interesting game, were so absorbed with it that we completely forgot we had classes and we almost missed a couple of them.

Obviously, one of the first rules he taught me was that the pawns are the least valuable pieces and you can dispose them whenever you want. The only piece that matters in the game is the king. You can`t lose it. You can`t even let any other enemy soldiers close to it. It is the center of the entire strategy.

Today I am a pawn too. One among the others. Less important, less valuable. But needed. We, the mere pawns of this beautiful country, are needed today. And that is because the rules of the strategy haven`t changed. In order to survive and win the game we have to defend the king and the country.

I don`t know who is or who is going to be the king yet. Maybe he is already decided or maybe he just waits for us to win. It is not me who have to question that, and definitely it is not the time. But what I know for sure is that we have to fight. We, the mere pawns, have to fight against our enemies, whoever they are.

As a dutiful pawn I decided to show my loyalty to my king (who I don`t know yet) and to sacrifice my powerful ambitions, my bad ideas and my humble integrity for him and for the country. I`m going to defend my country whatever the consequences, that`s for sure. And that is because I am proud to be a kiwi.

So people, I am going to candidate as a member of the Kiwi People`s Party in Otago! Don`t vote for me, I am just a blocker. But since I have never done it before, I am proud to announce it to you. My career as a very ambitious kiwi, an awesome soldier and a professional troll started some days ago. Now it is time to continue with my political endeavours, which you will find interesting if you start to know me better.

Here is the emblem which you will find me.

English is not my native language, so all the mistakes are regrettable and not intentional.
