Σαν σήμερα πρίν από 110 χρόνια οι επιστήμονες άρχισαν να εξετάζουν τον μηχανισμό των Αντικυθήρων



Ο Μηχανισμός των Αντικυθήρων θεωρείται ευρέως ως ένα από τα σημαντικότερα αρχαία τεχνουργήματα που έχουν ανακαλυφθεί έως σήμερα. Πρόκειται για έναν μηχανισμό με οδοντωτούς τροχούς που αποτελείται από 30 γρανάζια τοποθετημένα με πολύπλοκη διάταξη. Είναι επίσης γνωστό πως ο Μηχανισμός αναπαράγει αστρονομικά φαινόμενα με εξαιρετική ακρίβεια.

Ο Μηχανισμός είναι ένα μοναδικό παράθυρο στην ιστορία, επιτρέποντάς μας να γνωρίσουμε συμπυκνωμένη την γνώση αστρονομίας των αρχαίων Ελλήνων, και μέσω εκείνων, την γνώση των αρχαίων Βαβυλωνίων. Με πολλούς τρόπους, ο Μηχανισμός αποτελεί μια εγκυκλοπαίδεια της αστρονομίας της εποχής.

Επιπλέον, μαρτυρά την εξαιρετική γνώση μαθηματικών και μηχανολογίας των αρχαίων Ελλήνων. Εκτιμάται πως ο Μηχανισμός χρονολογείται ανάμεσα στο 150 και το 100 π.Χ. και είναι ανώτερος κάθε άλλου ωρολογιακού μηχανισμού παρόμοιας πολυπλοκότητας που κατασκευάστηκε για περισσότερο από μία χιλιετία μετά. Το επίπεδο μηχανολογικού σχεδιασμού του μηχανισμού είναι σε κάθε περίπτωση εκπληκτικό.

Σήμερα, μετά από 110 χρόνια μελέτης οι επιστήμονες ακόμα ΜΑΘΑΙΝΟΥΝ από κάτι που είναι 2000 ετών…



A day like today 110 years ago scientists started studying the Antikythera Mechanism…. the oldest known complex scientific calculator who was found in Antikythera at early 1900…

The Antikythera Mechanism is widely considered to be one of the most important archeological artifacts ever found. The mechanism is a geared device consisting of 30 gears in a highly complex arrangement. The mechanism is known to model astronomical phenomenon with remarkable detail.

The Mechanism provides a unique window on history, allowing us to view the collected astronomical knowledge of the Ancient Greeks, and through them the knowledge of the Ancient Babylonians. In many ways the Mechanism provides us with an encyclopedia of the astronomical knowledge of the time.

In addition, it also stands witness to the extraordinary mathematical and engineering capabilities of the Ancient Greeks. The Mechanism is thought to date from between 150 and 100 BC and it precedes any other known clockwork mechanisms of similar complexity by more than a millennium. The level of engineering in the mechanism is astonishing by any standards.

Today, after 110 years of study the scientists are still LEARNIG from something more than 2000 years old…
